I Need A Semi-formal Prom Dress Can You Give Me Some Suggestion

What kind of styles would you suggest for a graduation (prom) dress? Formal or casual maybe?

The dress for senior prom should reflect the personality of the person wearing it and flatter the body style. It depends on the type of prom and time of the event, but in general, full length formal ball gowns are the norm. The style of dress (drop waist, mermaid, trumpet) and neckline depends on the shape of the person's body. A competent saleswoman at the dress shop should be able to help.As for graduation, a dress works well with the cap and gown. This dress should be less formal than a ball gown and more professional. After all, the focus of the event is scholarly achievement. Do not wear heels if you are not experienced and confident in them. Tripping on stage will ruin the moment.

What are cute stores that sell semi-formal dresses for teenagers?

i am graduating from 8th grade. i have boobs, so i dont want no flat-chested tween dresses. what are some stores where i could find a somewhat modest (a lil boob or some back) dress?? please help. francescas, tillys, macys, nordstroms all have nothing. i cant wear a bodycon and i dont want a maxi dress. this is not prom, but i wanna get a lil fancy if you know what i mean. not too casual, its my graduation. any suggestions??

Difference between prom and semi formal?

I don't know how dances operate at your school, but when I was in high school semiformal was a mix of long and short dresses, and no corsages/boutonnieres were exchanged.

At prom, the majority of the dresses are long, and corsages/boutonnieres are almost always exchanged. The atmosphere of prom is much more formal than the semiformal dance.

Long gowns are not a necessity from prom. Each year at prom at my high school, several girls showed up in short, fun party dresses. There is no set prom code, so wear whatever you like and makes you feel beautiful and fun!

What are Best Prom Dresses?

To me. The very best Prom dresses were the beautiful glowing liquid satin Prom dresses of the year 1997.Especially the mind blowingly glamorous liquid satin charmeuse slip dresses.. they were ultra glamorous and feminine. They were so wonderfully glossy and caught the light when they danced. The dresses Felt heavenly to the touch and looked heavenly to behold. Now….the dresses they have now look as if they were made out of broken shards of glass and i’ll bet they draw blood if you drag your hand over them with a bit of contact. I feel so much pity for today’s graduating man who is going to a prom with his date wearing steel wool to the prom. But men’s tuxedos are basic and the style does not change. But when it comes to fashion trends It is the guys who loose. If only men wore broken glass and sharp shards of metal to the prom and see how the ladies like it!!! Now those men who attended a Prom back in 1997 were truly fortunate to be with their Prom dates who were wearing actual high glamour dresses that looked and felt wonderful.Your hands would slide effortlessly over the fabric if you glided your hand with a bit of contact. If time machines existed!!! But the only plausible thing to do is bring back the sleek satin dress styles of the 1997 era back!!! These dresses of today look like paper napkins with broken glass.

Short Prom Dresses vs. Long Prom Dresses?

Honestly, I think you'd be best with a long dress. I don't know much about what style goes best on what body type, but I do think that everyone should wear a long (or at least long-ish) dress to prom. I don't think it's classy enough to wear a dress that only comes to your knees. I mean, think about it...This is PROM! You should look and feel like a princess! You can wear a nice short dress to any formal or even semi-formal event, but how often do you get the chance to wear a long, beautiful gown?

...Although if this is just junior prom, and you still plan on going to prom as a senior as well, I guess that's a good excuse to not want to look too over the top this year. Of course this is all just my opinion. Feel free to ignore it. =P

I'm sure if you look hard enough (you are starting early, so that's good! I started like a week or two before prom! Ugh...), you can find a dress that you can wear flat shoes with and not trip over. If worse comes to worse, you could have your dress hemmed. I bet that would be pretty costly though.

Have you thought about looking for a dress that only goes halfway between your knees and ankles? I doubt you could find too many "mermaid" style dresses like that, but if you really do have an hourglass figure (particularly one that would look good in dress that is as form-fitting as a mermaid), I'm sure any style would look great on you! But if you are mostly just interested in the mermaid style, I can't say I blame you - I think it's gorgeous!

You could also just wear kitten heals that are tall enough that you won't trip, but short enough that you don't look taller than your boyfriend. Maybe the same height, but not taller.

I hope this jumble of thoughts helps you some lol. And I hope you find that perfect dress!

*EDIT*

After reading the other responses, I really don't know what kind of dancing these girls were doing that made it harder to do in a long dress. I don't remember a lot about how people danced at my prom, but I'm pretty sure they weren't exactly trying to be on America's Best Dance Crew or anything, lol. And I guess awkward freak dancing might be more difficult? I dunno.

The last and only high school dance I went to was a Halloween dance, and I was scared to death b/c of all the girls' costumes and the grinding. (I was an innocent freshman haha!) I was wondering what kind of dancing you there will be at my sophomore semi-formal tomorrow night! Thanks for any suggestions =]

When is the best time to buy an affordable prom dress?

When do stores start putting prom dresses on display? I don't really know my size either so I can't buy it off the internet. ._.

And also...
Does a dress have to be labeled a "prom" dress for it to be formal enough to wear to prom? How exactly can you judge a dress to be casual, semi-formal, or formal?

My high school prom is in the middle of May this year and I don't really have much experience with these things. :]

Is it good to wear sport shoes with formal dress?

It's a big no for it, if you're heading towards an interview unless it's a fashion industry where you're interviewing with. But I appreciate your question, because fashion is something which is meant to be experimented. This trend is slowly coming over. I have added few pictures here depicting how and what type of sports shoes can be used to wear with formal suits. This image shows how adding on shoes with your formal dress can go right by adding a bit more of casual look with a pair of denims. But never try such combination for an interview. It will look like a tragedy or a disaster with that mismatch of dressing and will land you up with a no job stuff.Keeping this thing aside if you love experimenting then go for it just with a right color and right pair of shoe. Also such combinations look good if you're out for a business trip or tour.Hope this helps! :)
