I Need A Theme For A Story

Can a short story have more then one theme? and are themes and thesis considered as the same thing?

Yes, short stories can and do have more than one theme. See, for example, the short stories of Raymond Carver and Shirley Ann Grau. Themes, for the most part, are what the story is about. Theses are what the story seeks to prove, advance, or illuminate. To a degree, themes are passive and theses are active.

What is the theme of the story "the scarlet ibis"?

Maybe this will help:

"The story focuses on the troubled relationship between two young boys: the narrator and his mentally and physically disabled brother, Doodle. It explores the conflicts between love and pride and draws attention to the effects of familial and societal expectations on those who are handicapped. The narrative unfolds against the background of the carnage of World War I,

"with its associated themes of the dangers of attempting to make others over in ones own image, the brotherhood of all mankind, and the waste of life resulting from a lack of love and compassion.

"In the course of the story, Doodle becomes symbolically identified with a rare and beautiful scarlet ibis which, finding itself in a hostile environment, dies. The ibis's story resonates not only with Doodle's own fate but with the fate of those from the United States and other countries who died in the war."

What are themes of a story and examples?

A theme is a broad idea, message, or lesson conveyed by a written text. This message is usually about life, society, or human nature. Themes often explore timeless and universal ideas. Most themes are implied rather than explicitly stated. The theme is different from the superficial outlay of the text; it is normally the meaning of the text on a more abstract level.

So, take Cinderella for example.
The theme would be "karma". What you do to somebody may come back and happen to you. Treat others how you would like to be treated.

And I think sometimes in themes a person might want to sum up the story in a couple sentences.

Why are themes important in a story?

Why are themes important in a story?Themes are the central focus of the story or narrative. Themes express the intended lesson, conclusion, message, or point of view of the author. Themes connect all the parts of the story such as characters, plot, problem (conflict), setting, and event(s). Source: http://www.brandiraae.com/A theme keeps the writer on point. For nonfiction writing, the overarching theme is usually called the thesis. A thesis is also a lengthy manuscript with a main topic.

I need to find a poem or short story with the theme Isolation as a form of self protection?

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

And a rock feels no pain;

by Simon and Garfunkel

I think this'll do the trick :) hope i helped

Hello! I’m writing short stories with the theme of sharp objects and need your help. What sharp objects would make interesting items to include in a story?

Pencils were popular in writing. Other usual implements are claimed to symbolize worries, warnings, harsh words or severing, either physical or relationships, in dreams. There are interpretations in feng-shui and for religious or ritualistic items. Aichmophobia is the fear of the pointy ones. They are also used in defense or medical applications for ease of penetration. Some are for eating or grooming. Evolution has provided some creatures with their own. Rough edges indicate haste or wear. Occam's razor is a scientific principle.
