I Need A Word That Is Halloween Themed And Not Commonly Used One That Is A Little Unusual Would Be

Creative Halloween ideas for a play on words?

So people expect a little from me for Halloween to have a good costume. I've been a stud muffin (giant muffin with stud written on it), chick magnet (before it became popular), blind guy (blind glasses and stick with a set of window blinds running up and down my front and back) and well hung (guy being hung well with a hang man puzzle on me).

These are all really corny/cheesy play on words but thats how i roll. Anybody got other ideas along these lines.

What is the history of Halloween?

Halloween was first a pagan festival, then a Christianised one, then a secularised one.The pagan festival was Samhain, which means 'summer's end'. It was one of the two really important days in the pagan Celtic year, and on that day the boundaries between this world and the Otherworld, between the living and the dead, between humans and the fey, was much thinner than usual. It was the beginning of the darker, colder, harsher part of the year, which is part of its connection to the dead. But it was also a harvest festival: at Samhain, you need not worry about the fertility of the coming season; all you could do was ride out the winter with the supplies you had gathered. Because it was such an important festival, it wasn't possible for Christianity to extinguish it altogether, so instead it was given a Christian meaning. Halloween refers to All Hallows Eve, the night before All Saints Day. The idea was that, while All Saints Day was particularly holy and safe, on All Hallows Eve, every ghost and spook was out and about. It remained associated with the harvest, because almost all festivals during the middle ages had some connection with the agricultural year, because until the nineteenth century the vast majority of people made their living from agriculture. (Here my knowledge is more sketchy - check from other sources). I expect that the secularisation of Halloween took place during the Reformation: if Cromwell could ban Christmas, which is far more theologically important, I don't doubt that Halloween would get dumped there, and in many other Protestant areas. Either it died out for a while and was revived, or it lost its religious associations and survived purely as a harvest festival.The harvest festival elements can be seen in some of the decoration - pumpkins and corn - while the connection with ghosts has been long lasting. Trick-or-treating was once soul-caking, jack-o-lanterns were once made of turnips. But it has been a remarkably resilient festival.

I need a name for a fall themed party..?

If it's close enough to Halloween... I love the name When Hell Freezes Over.

Or maybe you could try Haunted Halloween Happening, or Nightmare on (your street's name) Street :)

If it's not close enough to Halloween though, you could try... well how old are you going to be?
Like, if you're gonna be 14, you could say Francesca's Fourteen, you know, make the first letter of the second word match the first letter of your name.

Or, Courtney's Catastrophic... get it? :)

Btw: Happy Birthday! :D

Basic math word problems?

These questions are all about rewriting things in maths language. To do this, give everything you can think of a value like x, y and z, and then write them in terms of each other.

For example, number 3:

Call the candy that Austin collected X, Anthony's candy Y and Brittany's candy Z.

The total candy collected is 57 pieces. Writing this using maths language, you get X + Y + Z = 57.

Read the next sentence slowly, and try to keep up with it in maths language. Anthony (Y) collected 4 more than 3 times the pieces of candy collected by Austin (X). This tells you that Y = something + 4 (because he collected 4 more than that). What's the something? 3 times Austin (X).
So, Y = 3X + 4.

Do the same with the third sentence: Brittany (Z) collected 7 less than Austin (X). So, Z = X - 7.

Now you have three equations:
X + Y + Z = 57
Y = 3X + 4
Z = X - 7

Now, what letter are you looking for? Austin. That means you want to find X. So, try to get rid of the Y's and Z's from one of the equations. You can do this by substituting the values for Y (3X + 4) and Z (X - 7) into the first equation.

So, instead of X + Y + Z = 57, you write X + [3X + 4] + [X - 7] = 57. Simplify that to solve for X, and there's your answer.

Use the same technique to solve for 4. 1 and 2 also use that technique, but the maths language you need is a little more complicated, so do them last. Good luck!

What are the perfect Halloween movies?

I'm going to avoid simply considering "horror" films broadly, and stick to specifically "Halloween" themed/related/timed films.Halloween -- John Carpenter's original is unmatched as the best. It is simple in its plot, but ingenious in its execution, with terrific performances and one of the most memorable film scores not just of its genre but of film in general.  On a very low budget ($320,000 at the time, equivalent to around $1 million today), and avoiding blood in favor of suspense and the fear of what you don't see, this film ranks among the finest horror films of all time -- and, I will just go ahead and suggest, one of the best examples of independent low-budget filmmaking as well.Trick 'r Treat -- So few people are aware of this film, despite how awesome it is. A series of creepy tales about Halloween that will surprise, horrify, and delight you.  I never heard of this film before seeing it on Netflix, but it's a must-see and you will surely immediately add it to your own best-of list.  This one is more graphic at times and in fact might be more disturbing to viewers who are okay with typical stabbing/killing but not prepared for some of the "holy crap" creepiness of this film's decapitations and other dispatching of victims. But it's seriously great, and has some unexpected little twists at times that might even make you applaud before you realize what you're doing.  Added bonus: I found the film and watched it when searching Netflix for films by Michael Dougherty, the writer of X2: X-Men United and Superman Returns, so it's a horror film written and directed by a superhero film writer!The Nightmare Before Christmas -- This one cheats, because it's both a Halloween and a Christmas film.  But it's among the best of both, with amazing visuals and a soundtrack worth listening to again and again.  But it's not lacking story, and is in fact surprisingly tender and thoughtful as well.  Comedy-horror for adults and kids, it's a great blend that's required viewing for the holidays.

My friend & I want to have escape room nights once in a while. One of us will modify a room in his house with puzzles and riddles and all the others will try to escape. We have plenty of time & some money. What are puzzle ideas for real escape rooms?

First, here are a few resources regarding pre-made puzzles and/or room kits:https://www.creativeescaperooms....https://lockpaperscissors.co/esc...http://datenightwingman.com/diy-...http://www.diy-escape-room.com/p...If you want my personal advice, below is an answer I wrote earlier about DIY puzzles:Often simplicity can be effective—especially when the puzzles are for a social activity in your home, rather than a high tech escape room full of fancy props. To save costs try to use everyday objects for your puzzles. Start by looking around for bike locks, briefcases, and the lock from your old school locker.The first (and obvious) thing to do is hide objects around your house. Perhaps drop a key in your fish tank and get your friends to find a magnet on a string. Another classic is to cut out the inside of a book and hide something inside.Word puzzles are fun, and can be as easy as hiding a message in a book. Consider underlining certain letters throughout the book to make words; or perhaps using a date (dd/mm/yy) to mean page, line, word. I also like puzzles that use words to form a numbered code i.e. Mary ate (8) an apple. Finally, a very simple go-to puzzle is using a backwards message that be read in a mirror.Consider making puzzles using colors. It could be as simple as counting how many red apples, yellow bananas, etc. or a complex pattern. One of my favorite puzzles involved striped and solid socks being lined up with the appropriate billiard balls to form a numbered code.It may seem childish, but consider brushing up on your sailor knots. There is nothing more frustrating than a box you can’t open because it is wrapped in knotted rope!Make use of your computer. Whether it is figuring out the password, showing a special screen saver, or hiding a clue-filled USB key somewhere in the room, computers can be a handy tool.Bring your friends back to their school days. You can make a variety of puzzles using that old periodic table from science class, or those old maps from geography.These are just a few ideas to get you started, I am by no means a puzzle designer! I think the key is to just have fun with it!
