What do retail stores do with their inventory that doesn't sell?

Have you never heard of a "closeout sale"? Or "inventory blowout"? ;-) In all seriousness, retail stores don't want inventory to sit around (it is money on the shelf). Better to mark it down and move it out.Worst case, if a retailer can't move it or they prefer to not do deep discounting, a store might pass it off their aging inventory to a discount retailer (like Ross Dress for Less, TJ Maxx, Dollar General, or 99c Store). The advantage there is they can take all their inventory they don't want and just sell it in one big transaction to the discounter, so it's done and gone.Typical retail markup is 100% (double the wholesale price), so there's usually plenty of room to mark down prices and still make a profit. Even if a store has to keep marking down prices to the point that they're only breaking even or even possibly losing money on product, it's still better to do that and get fresh inventory on the shelves. The goal of a retail store is to get product that sells (quickly) so you can sell more of it. Inventory that doesn't move within 30-60 days needs to be disposed of and dropping the price is typically how that is done.

I am selected to the SSB interview. They have given the reporting time at the station to be 6.30. But my train goes at 7.00. What should I do?

They might still be present there loading other candidate’s lagguage etc till you reach. But if in case you are too late, then you will have to reach SSB center on your own. I would suggest you to have a look at call up letter in which they have mentioned so as what to do if your train get late. They generally have 2hours delayed reporting for such cases BUT YOU SHOULD STILL GO THROUGH YOUR CALL UP LETTER THOROUGHLY TO CONFIRM THE SAME. All the best. Give your best.

I am an electronics and communication engineer graduate. It's been over a year, and I haven't found any job. Some said to do Java, and I'll get a job. I have also completed that, but still no job. I'm frustrated and I don't know what to do next. What can I do next?

Thanks for A2A.You have many options but you need two things for any of the following: perseverance and hard work. I will share what happened with me and my friends.1) Many of my friends did B. Tech. in ECE and did not got a job immediately, nut they did not loose courage. They went to places like Delhi and Bangalore where you can find many job advertisements everyday. Walk-in interviews are very common. They got the job within 6 months. These people simultaneously enrolled in training for java or vhdl.2) Some of them stayed back at home and prepared for a specific job (a few of the jobs not related to ECE) and cracked it within a year. This includes vacancies in public sector or research institutes like ONGC, BHEL, CSIR, ISRO as well as many banks.3) A few others applied for jobs advertised on (Jobs: Search Jobs In India, Govt Jobs, Job Vacancies & Freshers Jobs Online) * or similar portals. 4) A few others (including me) appeared for GATE either in 4th year or after completing degree and got admission to M. Tech. programme. The stipend is good and if you have a predilection for research no other option can be better.Right now I can't think of any other option but I'm sure there must be.  I totally understand that staying at home after getting the degree is boring and kind of embarrassing, but rather than thinking about it better to use time constructively for our better future. Remember, everyone gets a job if one persists long enough.*Disclaimer: I am not endorsing the job portal directed above. It was just an example where you should search for jobs and not pay them money or submit resume.

Why do people become so judgemental?

Much of what makes us who we are today is initiated through the elements that formed us in childhood. Unfortunately, some children endure hardships through their environment and/or the parenting techniques or styles used. For those who had such an upbringing…you are not a lost cause. Fortunately, we don’t learn everything we know through our parents. There have been other mentors in our lives that have instilled fair and balanced concepts that we have learned from…such as, and not limited to, teachers, pastors, friends, other family members. The best way to response to such a person is to point out a positive way of looking at the judgement being made by the person.Ex. Judgmental person says to you “OMG look at that…if I was that fat, I would never leave my house..that’s just disgusting!”Responder says “I know that woman..she is something else. She is a teacher at my son’s elementary school and she is so loved and such a great mentor…she was awarded “Teacher of the Year”! Let’s go say “Hi” to her…you have got to meet her!!You are quietly and gently guiding this individual to recognize the flawed behavior without judging her character. You are giving her tools to work this out within her self…while still remaining an unthreatened friend in her life.Hopefully, your way of identifying a positive will influence her to accept another view point. More than likely she will be drawn to you and admire your positive strengths. This writer has eloquently defined some sad truths…

I am preparing for competitive exams, but for the past few days I have not been able to concentrate on studying and when I force myself I feel exhausted. When I start studying my mind wanders a lot. I'm in a 'do or die' situation as I have to clear those exams, but I am wasting my precious time. What should I do?

Thank you for this detail question description. The same things occur with every aspirants. They all do the same for fighting it off. But, what actually makes a difference is their unstoppable efforts to work onto the same.Fear, anxiety and pressure like things are very common in the struggle of clearing any competitive examination. Around millions are giving and thousands will be selected. Tough.Nothing except for going along and studying is the way to fight this.If you ask Google it has techniques like meditation and etc. If you start meditating with such kind of chaos in your mind then, you'll feel more low as you will depend upon meditation. Proper mediation gives result in and after 3–4 months of practice and till that time you don't have so much patience. Accept it. So it cannot help.As I said earlier, walking through the same. Studying is the way only.Hormones may play with you sometimes. Let it. But do remember when the game ends, you should be the winner.Don't feel low and stressful.Believe in your efforts, the results will walk to you as it is meant to be.Few things I personally practice to get rid of such things is:Yoga. Preferably, kapalbhati pranayama for 10 minutes daily. You can see the effects of the same on the internet.Weekly dopamine, serotonin and endomorphin doses. In my case I like to eat, so I prefer eating tasty and healthy food every week to keep myself happy.Build up the habit of patience. Slowly everything fades off and I'm again back on track.Discuss the issues with one close friend and with family. I said discuss, don't expect solutions. It will help. Finally, be passionate and keep reminding yourself, your 'why' for this journey. All the best!Thank you!Binoy Roy

What will the world look like 50 years from now? What technology will we have, what will the economy be like, and what will the geopolitical organization look like?

An invitation to speculate. Nice.1) all new cars will be electric.  You will be able to get gasoline for your antique Ford Festiva, but it will be difficult to come by and you will have to plan ahead. It will be similar to what happened to vacuum tubes in the middle of the 1900's. 2)  self- driving cars will be ubiquitous. It will be similar to what happened to the elevator industry in the early 1900's. 3) home and work charging will be ubiquitous. It will be similar to what happened to the  movie theater industry with the advent of TV and VCRs.  Highway travel plazas will be repurposed as DC fast charging stations and have more amenities pecs use people will be spending 30 to 40 minutes there.  But that's okay, because:4) battery capacity will triple, at least.  That means that a car like a Tesla Model S will have a range of  600 miles. Far beyond the bladder range of most people.   It will be similar to what happened to the smart phone industry over the past 10 years. 5) with less complexity in the drive train, there will be less need for auto repair facilities. Car dealer networks will have to either change their business models radically or die.  It will be similar to what happened to the TV repair industry in the last part of the 1900's. 6) solar energy will be ubiquitous. Most homes and public buildings will have solar panels and storage batteries for overnight. The central grid will not go away, but it will reduce the need for new fossil burning plants.  It will be similar to what happened with the telecommunications industry over the past 40 years. 7) having a driver license will be about as useful as having a pilot license is now.
