How many followers should you have on Instagram before starting marketing and promotions in order to get paid?
I would say the absolute minimum is 10,000 followers. That seems the be the threshold for when brands will start considering your account. Obviously, the more genuine and interactive followers you have, the more enticing you become to a brand. Keep in mind, people didn't start following your account to be sold to, so find a balance in your promoted posts with your normal posts. I have done dozens of promoted posts, but my goal is to always keep it fun and in the style that I normally shoot. From a creativity perspective, it can be fun and challenging to have an objective (i.e. a product or campaign you are promoting) that you then have to creatively produce within your own brand of photography.What's most important to keep in mind when posting sponsored material is who your audience is and why they follow you in the first place. If you shoot street photography and epic skylines, make sure whatever you are promoting matches your account's identity. If a watch company wants to pay you to shoot their latest model, do it in a way that encapsulates the vibe of your feed. Also, try to turn down the salesman aspect to it as much as possible and communicate in a personable tone.
