my girlfriend was diagnosed with MRSA yesterday it started with a boil in her head then one grew on her neck people say the MRSA is spread my skin to skin contact which i assume you can get it from sex kissing etc can anybody clarify that for me and tell me how i could cope with this situation i would greatly apprciate it =[

I have had MRSA for 22 years help!!!?

I started with the boils after having surgery done when I was 18, I have had about 40 cut and drained and treated with antibiotics, one Dr. told me it was ingrown hairs, another told me to loose 20 pounds and it would help, Then I was treated with iv drugs for 3 months it was vancomiocyn??? within 4 days of being off the drug they came back, the Dr. told me that it was a chronic illness the there was nothing more that they could do I do take zinc and selinium and it seems to help, the boils are only half the size , but I want it gone, it seems to be worse around my period, any answers out there?? in the last 22 years I have been on every medication under the sun for this.

I have mrsa, and i need information on it?

i am a healthy 16 year old girl, average height and weight, i don't get sick often. but the problem is i was diagnosed with MRSA a couple of days ago. i have quite a couple sores in multiple places, *i will go into more detail* some aren't as bad as the others. my worst one is in the back of my upper right thigh and it is roughly the size of a large coffee cup, it bleeds a lot and discharges a clear liquid and it hurts like hell, i hate to move my leg and walk cause it hurts so bad. also on my right leg i have atleast six more on the lower part of my top thigh, they aren't bad they don't hurt but they itch and look disgusting, and on my right leg again i have seven or so on the top of my thigh near my butt cheek again just red dots and they itch. i wish i could say this was all of them but there are more, i also have them on the top of my vagina not inside or near the clitoris but on the top of it, i have atleast 15 red dots that itch and one big sore it's becoming like the one on the back of my leg, it bleeds has a clear liquid coming out of it and is becoming quite large and it hurts like hell i am on the medication now to help it. i feel like crap though, i feel sick and tired and i don't wanna do anything i don't want to eat. so please i just need some information on it. cause my doctor left me with a lot of questions and wasn't very helpful. please people with medical backgrounds only. here are my concerns:
1. will the ones on top of my vagina cause any problems to my uterus or being able to bear a child later in life?
2. what can i take to help with the pain?
3. is there anything i can put on them to stop the itch?
4. what are my risks of getting mrsa in my blood?
5. will this go away for good?
6. at what point should i go to the hospital? like signs that i need to go to the hospital.
7. should i not go to work? i work with elders in a nursing home.
8. what should i do for precautions for keeping my family from getting this?
9. what precautions should i take from further spreading this to the rest of my body?
10. should i tell people?
11. could i apply heat to the sores?
12. what are some non medication ways to help the sores?
13. any other information i should know about?
i'm actually scared. really really scared.
and thank you for everybody who answers.

Why do i have MRSA again?

You have another outbreak of MRSA, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, because it is very rare for it not to recur especially if you have not strengthened your immune system after your original antibiotic treatment. Another reason could be exposures. S aureus resides on the skin and in nasal passages. You may also have been exposed by a carrier.

From your description, your MRSA manifests as carbuncles and these are contagious and can spread to other parts of you body as well as other people who contact the carbuncle. This may explain why you have it again. The carbuncle is not just a skin surface occurrence, it is a mass which extends below the surface of the skin.

Which type of MRSA do you have. There are two forms Community acquired or CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA. CA-MRSA occurs in otherwise healthy people. This does not mean, however, that after treatment with antibiotics which can also kill off the friendly flora and fauna in your intestinal tract you will have a particularly healthy immune system.

You are lucky at this point that your MRSA infection is not systemic. You must take care of your skin however. Any cut or burn must be promptly treated before it becomes affected. And all suspect areas need to be treated immediately.

It is also time to speak with your doctor about the antibiotic(s) being used to treat your MRSA. There may be other options although the selection is limited.

Please also consider strengthening your immune system in every way possible.

1. Probiotics which should be taken right along with the antibiotics are often deferred until after treatment.

2. Sleep, sleep, sleep - allow your body to heal.

3. DIet - you might even request a referral to a dietitian. A balanced, healthy old-style Mediterranean diet rich in antioxidants. Supplements might be in order in your case.

4. Exercise - 40 minutes a day to increase those endorphins and stimulate the immune system. Vary your routine to keep your body strong and healthy.

I know this is frightening but just stay in contact with your doctor's office and be aggressive in getting both treatment and follow-up care as preventative medicine.

Best wishes

Have MRSA, contemplating suicide. Please help?

Also I feel sad because I know no one will want to date me and I wanted a baby so bad but its deadly in babies and I'll probably definitely pass it on. I will stay strong I don't think I'll commit suicide I know thats a HORRIBLE act but my life has been miserable for quite a while this is the icing on the cake. I also have depression and deep self hatred, this MRSA thing is like the last straw but maybe if I start getting spiritual I will make it through. I don't want to be alone the rest of my life though, I even thought if I couldn't get my hands on a husband or child I'll live with animals. Can't even do that anymore. I'm so sad

I have a MRSA staph infection on my right knee and I'm being treated for it. What is some advice on MRSA staph infections?

The Infectious Disease Society of America has published best-practices guidelines for treatment of MRSA infections: http://www.idsociety.org/uploade... I. What is the management of skin and soft-tissue infections(SSTIs) in the era of community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA)?SSTIs1. For a cutaneous abscess, incision and drainage is theprimary treatment (A-II). For simple abscesses or boils, incision and drainage alone is likely to be adequate, butadditional data are needed to further define the role ofantibiotics, if any, in this setting.2. Antibiotic therapy is recommended for abscessesassociated with the following conditions: severe or extensivedisease (eg, involving multiple sites of infection) or rapidprogression in presence of associated cellulitis, signs andsymptoms of systemic illness, associated comorbidities orimmunosuppression, extremes of age, abscess in an areadifficult to drain (eg, face, hand, and genitalia), associatedseptic phlebitis, and lack of response to incision and drainagealone (A-III).There is little evidence that antibiotics, whether systemic or topical, are effective in treating MRSA skin infections.  Drainage is the primary treatment option.  Antibiotics are effective, however, in preventing systemic infection, and that is probably why they were given.

If a patient beats an MRSA infection, can their blood help other patients survive through donation?

I don't think so.Reason: When a patient beats MRSA by his own(!), without antibiotics, it means the patient's immune system, as a whole, has succeeded in the battle. It includes WBCs (neutrophil, macrophage etc.), Antibodies (produced from plasma cells), different T cells, complements, cytokines and production house of all these cells i.e. bone marrow!Mere donating blood won't help as blood wouldn't contain enough 'resources' to sustain for long duration battle. There needs to have a continuous supply of resources in systemic manner!

My boyfriend has MRSA?

I just recently found out about it and we've been sleeping in the same bed for a while now.
I know it's very contagious, but could I have gotten it?
We have unprotected sex (he's sterile).

Is it only severly contagious is he has an outbreak?

Help?
