I Need Help On My Introductory Paragraph

I need help with my introductory paragraph.?

What is genocide?
It is the systematic and widespread extermination, or attempted extermination, of an entire national, racial, religious or ethnic group targeted for whatever reason. Genocide can be traced back thousands of years and usually rears it's ugly head when one group of people wants something, be it submission, revenge or the annihilation, of another. One can almost hear the thought, 'Surely something so horrific has not happened in the world in ages or at least decade’s, right?' This is unfortunately wrong, there have been dozens of reported genocidal events in the past century alone. To have a better understanding of this phenomenon, it is important to know some of the events where attempted genocide took place. The Holocaust (1939-1945), The Stalinist Era in the USSR (1929-1953), Partition of India (1947), The Killing Fields of Cambodia (1975-1978), The Rwandan Massacre (1994) are just a few of the many attempts that there have been in the modern past, trying to wipe out an entire population (or race).

This perhaps helps you ?

*The Rape of Nanking was not an attempt at genocide, it was a barbaric act of war.

Introductory Paragraph help!!!!?

We just finished writing a research paper in English. This is how she always tells us to write our intro paragraphs:

First Sentence: This needs to be the attention grabber or "hook" to get the reader instantly interested and wanting to read more. This can be a really neat fact or something.

Second and Third Sentence: Write a few more facts about your topic and kind of give a taste about what you will be talking about in your paper.

Fourth Sentence: This needs to be your thesis statement, which basically answers the question of the Topic. ex, if your Topic was how did this person change history? Your thesis would be "insert name here" changed history because she did "insert what she did that made her change history". It also kind of sums up your whole paper in one sentence.

After those sentences are done you have your introductory paragraph! I hope this helped some!

Introductory Paragraph help?

The introductory is supposed to be the 'hook'.
There are three basic ways to begin an intro-paragraph

1- Statistics
2- Stories
3- Straight

Statistics: This is when you use numbers of any kind to peak interest. For example "90% of lung cancer patients have a history of smoking, and 68% continued to smoke after their diagnosis." (PS, I made that up.) Some use of a FACT to make the reader interested.

Stories: Using an anecdote, true or fictional, to create a basis. A little story that has to do with the thesis or persuasive topic your paper is dealing with. "Tomas Quinn was accused of murdering a 14 year old girl in 1989. He had no alibi, but there was a hair that was a visual match to his own, and he was convicted. He was innocent, and exonerated last year when The Innocence Project took his case to the appelate court with DNA evidence that the hair from the trial was not Quinn's. There are 200 stories just like this that support why the Innocence Project should be federally funded for cases what were tried before DNA testing became standard."

Straight: The "straight" version is when you tell the reader where you're going with the paper. "In the 1600s, the European Governments...blah de blah.... The rulers felt that they had right to claim the New World for their own, they all fought for possession of the land and resources which caused a vicious feud between X, Y and Z nations."

From there, it depends on what your paper is about.

I need help with a introductory paragraph!?

Well this is easy- Pick your favorite computer game- now write about it. For example, Let's say your favorite game is - Civilization - Write something like- Imagine yourself in a time before this one. Where you are the ruler of the Mayan Empire. Pyramids are being built in YOUR honor. You built a huge army , who awaits for your to command at any moment.

Be a little creative. Mind you, I have no idea what Civilization is about. But if you don't dig strategies/war games do something with Sims - THat would be fun....What if we could create a world in which we dream of at our finger tips....?

Is this a well written Introductory Paragraph for my Essay...?

if it is a 5 paragraph essay then there should be 3 separate points that you want to discuss (the atmosphere, gravitational pull, and the surfaces of the planets.) that's what paragraph 2, 3, and 4 should be about. paragraph one is the introduction and paragraph 5 is the conclusion. paragraph one and five are basically the same you just change the wording around a little. the way to write paragraphs 2, 3 , and 4 is that the first sentence is a summary of what the paragraph is about and then you elaborate/ go into more detail on it in the rest of the paragraph. i usually use the first sentence from each paragraph (2,3,4) as the introductory paragraph and then paraphrase it for the conclusion paragraph. i hope this helps :) oh yeah the first sentence of the introduction paragraph and conclusion paragraph should be a summary of it's paragraph also telling the reader what the essay is about.

I will say that there are numerous problems with grammar and incorrect word usage. I will not, however correct it for you.

Help edit my intro history paragraph?

All I need is a introductory paragraph to a paper about the life of slaves in the United States. Good editing help gets 5 stars. Any help you can give is much appreciated. Here is my paragraph:

Throughout history segregation of religion, class, and color have played a huge part in establishing power and generating income. From the 16th to the 19th century America also followed this road; importing Africans over the Atlantic Ocean, into seaports, and selling them to various business owners and wealthy colonists as slaves. This “slave trade” was an important part in the creation of The United States. Americans forced Africans to do backbreaking labor, and menial tasks that they deemed beneath themselves. Our history books tell stories of these slaves but they are a callous and oversimplified version of what truly was done to these individuals. In order to obtain a fuller understanding of the effects the slave trade had on Africans it is important to include their perspective, something that is often left out of history.

The length of the paragraphs does not matter to MLA. That’s not the point. And frankly, a good MLA intro paragraph can be quite long. APA and other styles only use the intro to say things like, “This paper will show why we should watch more TV.” MLA calls for the intro to actually give those reasons. I’ve written very good MLA intros that were over a page long, and because I needed that much length, all was well.Worry less about the length of your paragraphs and more about whether they get the job done. In the intro, you should be introducing your topic (without beating around the bush), defining your terms, and offering up your thesis. Do you do that? Great. Frankly, five sentences seems kind of short, even for a short 1000-word essay.
