Meter in poetry: I need help understanding how to tell which syllables are stressed and unstressed............?

Wow. I came here to get help on the exact same question. I think Michelle gave some good advice. I agree that it really helps to say the words out loud. Yesterday, I asked my mom (an English teacher) to help me understand meter. She said that while meter is important (especially in older poems), it should not be the most important thing when reading. If deciphering the meter distracts from enjoying the poem and understanding it, then you should not worry about it so much. She also said that meter can get a bit confusing if a poem has been translated or written in a different dialect. For example: England and America use the same language, but pronunciations can be drastically different. The same goes for the different accents in America. I'm going to talk to my professor later to see if she has any helpful tips. I'll post back!

I talked to my prof. and she said that saying outloud is really the best way to figure out accented and unaccented. Most authors intend the words to spoken naturally, so just say them naturally. I hope that makes sense. Good luck!

I need help with poem titles please!!?

Merf.. I just pick out predominant words-- here's a few off the top of my head. Another idea is to pick out a single verb or noun. Also, the gist of the poem. Ex..

"Beyond You"
"Whitest Room"
"Villian"
"Left of the Murder"
"Nothingness and Memories"
"Brick Facade"
"Villanelle"
"Stringed Beast"
"Magical Deception"
"Man is.."
"Clipped Wings"
"Save the Saviour"
"The Soul and the Professor"
"Psychlon"
"The Goddess"
"The Friend that is Myself"

Etc, etc.

I’m Drifting Through Negative Space
By Jack Prelutsky
I’m drifting through negative space,
A frown on my lack of a face,
Attempting to hear with a tenuous ear
What nobody says is a place.
Undressed in unknowable cloths,
I strike an impossible pose,
Then rest my non-head
On my shadowy bed,
And when I awaken, I dose.
I’m eating make-believe bites,
Today in the negative night.
The water I drink
From my fictional sink
Is dry as the darkness is light.
I toss and ephemeral ball
Against an impenetrable wall.
It bounces and lands
In my vanishing hands-
It’s hard to keep track of it all.
I’d like to be positive, but
I’m stuck in a negative rut.
I laugh when I’m sad
When I’m angry, I’m glad,
Whatever I open, I shut.
I’m running an opposite race,
Maintaining an imprecise pace.
I lose when I win,
Going out coming in-
It’s eerie in negative space.

Help i need a poem about the excretory system! Just a simple fun poem,it's for a biology project. HELP ASAP!?

Who do I approach for some help with some Urdu poetry ('ghazal') that I have written? Who can mentor?

A mentor can be of 2 kinds. You pay for mentoring. It’s same like getting coached in Chess, Cricket, or Boxing. Get the expert you want. Most Poets would be willing to coach this way (including me).A Mentor volunteers on request. This can happen in a Mushaira, where you present your poetry. If a senior is impressed by your thoughts they may volunteer to guide you on the composition and other things. But if you lack thought it may be impossible to get a mentor to tell you how to think poetry. One of my favorite examples that I give my students is the mentoring of Bahadur Shah Zafar by Mirza Ghalib. This is a beautiful relationship since the King supported the Poet and the Poet helped the King write.

I need help analyzing this poem, Late Landing?

This poem started out very peaceful and joyous, but then it took a complete turn towards a somber mood. Lines 1-8 are all directed on the peaceful mood from the vacation and then even the airplane ride (usually people hate airplane rides so I think it was a calm before the storm type of feeling). Lines 9-12 are happy and joyful, reuniting with family and friends and seeing all smiles (seems to be perfectly normal). Lines 13 and 14, the character seems oblivious to the happenings back home and assumes that his mom was crying about him. Lines 15 and 16 indicate that he had a great time (he is telling this to his sorrowful mother knowing that a death has happened while he was on this great trip). Line 23 "I shiver cold and numb" he said this once he got IN the car with his mom (not outside), I think it might be that he had a feeling that something wasn't right. Lines 24-27 it seems that his mother really did not want to make his fun filled vacation turn into him leaving right when a family member had passed; she sighs as if she didn't want to tell him but she knows she has to.

This all shows that you can be the happiest person in the world at one moment and it can be immediately brought down to a sadness with only a couple words. The poem can also interpreted in the way that a person may really be happier without knowing about what would make them upset, ignorance is bliss.

POETS!!! I need your help DESPERATELY!!! Please!!! It's Urgent!!!!!?

Autumn there are several diferent types of sonnets?

Which kind?

I would suggest you take a note to teacher about the funeral which may work if it was a close relative and bring her samples of those genres written by other poets say which poets instead and hope you get marks for research skills?

If you want to be good at writing poetry read lots of it classical and modern and practise stuff like crosswords and word puzzles which get you into the habit of rearranging words! And study prosody, and get a manual of prosody types and a rhyming dictionary!
