I Need Ideas For My New Horror Movie

What's your idea for a horror story or movie?

Those are really bizarre ideas, so please don’t write anything based on them, or maybe comedies. Very silly, silly horror comedies.A movie where ghosts are being chased by vengeful humans.A slasher movie where the entire town turns out to be the killer and the five typical teenagers are being brutally murdered in a striking finale by their english teachers and the gentle local baker.People trapped in a house where Iggy Azaela’s songs are being played on a loop. They try to escape but it kills them all. The End.A movie where the main protagonist is a demon who tries to make up for possessing people by befriending a little girl and buying her lots of stuff. Her parents don’t understand why there are suddenly so many toys in her room so she tries to prove to them that there’s her old demon in the room but he’s definitely a nice one. They don’t believe her, obviously, so she asks the demon to bring the toys to life to make her point. As you can imagine, that doesn’t make things any better.A movie set in Victorian London where all children suddenly turn completely evil and kill everybody. No one knows what’s going on and one detective who vividly hates children is asked to investigate the case. (This is genuinely creepy now that I think about it. Children are so creepy just when they’re being children so imagine when thousands of them are possessed…good times).A movie where Donald J. Trump is the presi… oh wait.

Any horror movie ideas?

Mystery murderer?
People keep turning up dead around the house and scary bloody writing appears on the walls?

Teenage horror movie ideas!?

Ok so teenager has had a slumber and been told a really scary story (killer clowns and ghosts and that go bum in the night). Either the teen alone (or a group) go into the basement in the dark with just torchs and get scared by a ghost (which turns out to be a plain old sheet), a clown (a toy on washing line or something) etc etc. The kid(s) go back up stairs and the camera shows them and their torches go up the stairs but then slides across to what looks like a dummy made up as a zombie or Mummy or vampire (scary) or something which is against a wall eyes closed. Last thing you see are the eyes snapping open (coz it's alive!)

I have an idea for a horror movie, but how do I make it work?

Okay, so an “idea” isn’t a story. You have 90 pages of script to get though.Let’s get through the basics. You have an ending? That’s kind of important.Do you have a cast of characters? Make sure that they have strong personalities that differ. Despite what most people think, story is usually about character and not plot. How do these people react to whatever horror you’re inflicting upon them?Sure “The Exorcisit” is about demon possession on the surface, but dig a little deeper. It’s about a fallen priest, a man who no longer believes in God, desperately trying to save the soul of a woman’s daughter.Take those characters out of the story and the movie falls flat.“So I have this idea where an alcoholic bus driver is possessed by the devil.”Meh.Now, assuming that the story is 90 pages long, try to break it into 7–10 acts. Each act should be around 15 pages long… give or take a few pages.Make sure that each act escalates the stakes. You never want to have a weaker act following a stronger one. Keep twisting that knife! If this is a slasher flick, just knock someone off every 10 or so pages (in a more dramatic/tension filled/gory fashion).Once I’m about 70 pages into your story if I’m not thinking to myself, “Fucking hell, how are they going to survive this?!”, your story fails.Think of a similar film and study the pacing. After that you just need some decent dialogue to carry the story in between the scary shit. That’s when the characters are going to matter. They’re going to do all of the heavy lifting.

Why do new horror movies suck?

because there is no tension or suspense in horror movies these days. thats what made films like halloween so good was the tension. the creepiness. you never knew what was going to happen. and it was actually frightening. halloween is one of the scariest movies ive ever seen and i was an adult when i saw it for the first time.

nowadays all they do is write some lame "slash em up", grab a bunch of WB castmembers and have them "act" (oy vey) it out. theres no suspense. no timing. or anything even remotely scary. the movies are so predictable its retarded.

the only horror movies of the last ten years that have worked, were the SAW movies. they're not scary, but they are all tense and frightening and all have great twists at the end.

What are some good ideas for making a horror movie?

First: Do you understand that a sociopath is different from a psychopath? The person would behave entirely differently depending on which s/he was. There is a big difference. Actually, someone sociopathic would be interesting. Occasionally, there are movies who choose someone we truly wouldn't suspect. But, that's trickier than a plain ol' psycho.

Rewatch a lot of horror films, and keep notes on what shows up over and over. Then, avoid the obvious. There ARE movies that use different tricks to surprise us. Try to figure out what makes them work.

As for spooky music, you can't do better than the albums of Midnight Syndicate. They're described as soundtracks for horror films that haven't been made yet. Here are some samples from YouTube:

Are modern horror movies original with fresh new ideas, or do they copy older horror movies?

It’s very hard to create a ‘truly new’ horror experience. Even people like Stephen King and John Carpenter have reworked films and stories that they liked as kids, into new works as adults. If you just look at the film ‘Alien’ — which many people would have felt was a new horror experience at the time, because of the look and nature of the creature, there were in fact many 50’s science-fiction film ideas in the original script by Dan O’Bannon, as well as an element of H. P. Lovecraft. On top of that, there was the visual artist H. R. Geiger, lending his particular strange vision to the story — and two famous science-fiction artists, doing all the drawings of the ships and interior design. O’Bannon’s script was reworked by two others, who tightened up a lot of the ideas — and then you had Ridley Scott, bringing the whole vision together as a director. So there was an unbelievable amount of creative energy and ideas, not all of them new, in order to create something of this phenomenal scale; that now has an ongoing legacy as a horror film mythology (the life cycle of the xenomorph). What I am trying to say, is that it is incredibly difficult to engineer a new form of horror, no matter how hard you try. Many creative people have almost wanted to abandon horror, after pulling something so dark out their soul. Robert Louis Stevenson burnt his first version of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde because he was so disturbed by it. But then he couldn’t help but rewrite it, taking only a few days to do it. And with this story, he did create a new form of horror; the story of the split personality, putting a name and a face to it.Most new horror films, are older stories dressed up for a new era, and a new audience. One of the greatest horror films of recent years might be It Follows, in turns of atmosphere and impact. But it is still essentially a ghost story, about individuals being haunted by evil apparitions — and the ghost story is one of the oldest type of horror stories, found in cultures all over the world.
