I Need New Cloth Including Shoes. I Only Have $85 . What Are The Best Things I Could Buy.

What is the most attractive clothing for a 17 year old boy?

I am getting to the point where I would rather walk around naked then wear my current wardrobe which currently consists of Red Sox and New York Giants T Shirts. I know that I am impressing no one with my style which includes shirts that are way too big for me. I am going to college next year and I want to come off as someone who can take care of himself, not wearing a bunch of sports teams. Other than Hollister/American Eagle which I feel is too middle school, what clothing is the best for my age to show to just look better and that I take care of myself. Would Ralph Lauren be a good idea?

Are expensive shoes worth the $150+ price tag? Wouldn't buying 3 or 4 pairs of shoes at Walmart have a longer lifespan when combined?

Expensive shoes do not start at $150. Cheap shoes, like $150 ones have glued on soles that once they wear down are tossed in the bin. Much of the time they are made of cheap leather or more likely bonded leather which is chopped up bits of leather mixed with resins and binders. Same thing with your 3 or 4 pairs of shoes from Walmart. They go in the bin once the soles are worn out. The bonded leather may even crack, peel or delaminate before that.An expensive pair of shoes, besides being better constructed and better looking, are made from quality leather and can be resoled and refurbished. They can last 20 or 30 years or more.Your Walmart shoes won’t.

My parents don't want to buy me anything?

To not feel jealous, how about you put things in perspective? Your friend's parents spend even when they don't have the money, and yours are saving. Be grateful because you will be the one whose parents will be better prepared to pay for the important things, like college tuition. Way more important than another purse. (this is coming from a high school senior who is looking at the bleak reality of paying for college)

I don't get an allowance either, and it sucks to feel like free labor sometimes. But it's just one of those things that you have to do to be part of a family.

Why not just mix and match the clothes that you have? Or wear them different ways. Put a colorful cardigan over that t-shirt, or wear a long-sleeved shirt under a different shirt. Try tucking in your blouse one day and leaving it out the next. Play around with how you wear your Uggs (jeans tucked in, jeans not tucked in, with a skirt and tights). Get one new item, say a necklace from http://www.lulus.com or http://www.forever21.com (they have really cheap, but cute, jewelry), and mix up how you wear it and what you wear it with. Even if they are the same clothes, a little variety with how you wear them will make you feel less "Wow I have no new clothes this fall" and more "Okay how do I want to wear this shirt/skirt today?"

Who cares about some other girl if she is your ex-best friend? There is a reason the ex is there. You don't want her in your life anymore. Anyone who takes pictures to show all of the stuff they have on Facebook is not really a great person anyways. Focus on how you can make the best of your situation instead of using her life as the basis for how good/bad your life is going.

And lastly, about the makeovers... I think you probably should put off your room makeover for a while if it involves buying new things. You can always try moving things around in your room to see how it looks, or spreading a blanket over your bed that compliments your bedspread. And for the self-makeover, I don't know what to tell you if you aren't going to do anything about hair or makeup... That's kind of the definition of a makeover. But you can always focus on an inner makeover, and work on challenging yourself to try new things or get a different perspective on an event in your life or in the world.

Why do people buy expensive clothes?

The looks and the label.
I won't lie and say I don't judge something by its brand, but its not the most important in clothing. #1 is look and #2 is quality. Then comes brand.

Whenever I'm shopping the first thing that I look at is whether or not it looks good. Then I thumb the material. The problem is, if it, odds are if the quality and look is good, it's expensive and it's a brand name. Most people tend to look at these things first.

Most people won't spend 60 dollars on a shirt if they don't like the way it looks.

There are some people out there who will buy a shirt or a pair of shoes just because of the brand even if they think it's ugly. I think that's just dumb.

I try to spread it out. I will buy shirts from Marshalls, or Ross and then buy jeans at Nordstrom.

It's not wrong to have nice clothes now. I mean, you're still young, flaunt it, enjoy it. I just won't blow 800$ on something I think is ugly but is an expensive brand.

(Dress your age. There's only so much you can stretch. Women over 30 should not wear halter tops or spandex. Girls under 20 should not wear plunge V-necks or skirts/dresses with slits higher than mid thigh.)

Is $115 considered expensive for running shoes?

Athletic companies are always trying to increase their prices meaning higher profit margins especially on their newest models. If your smart wait until the prices come down or just buy last years model shoes which are generally under $85. Go to Holabirdsports.com or other Shoe websites to comparison shop. Learn not to buy the latest shoes and put that extra money in your bank.

Can I wear running shoes with jeans and does it look ugly?

I always wear my running shoes with jeans and shorts. Some better looking styles are the ones for track (sprints), and some good-looking brands are: Puma, Diesel, and Asics. You can always get some really good gel inserts from Dr. Scholls that will give you extra support in any shoe you wear. Would these shoes be for a guy or girl?

How much should I pay for a pair of tap shoes?

Bloch makes nice taps, you can get them for around $60-80 depending on the shoe. I use Capezio's Gregory Hine's shoes ($400+, ouch). Angelo Luzio also makes decent, affordable taps ($60-100 again). I've had an $85 pair of Angelo Luzio taps for probably ten years. Still dancing in them!
If you've been properly fit and know which shoe you need you can order them off e-bay for cheap. Miller and Ben shoes are very nice but are on the $170 end of the scale, plus prices of taps, etc. If you're not a professional dancer I wouldn't bother dishing out that much for a pair of shoes unlses you really want to. You can get good sounds in a less expensive shoe if you have the technique.
If you're not used to a tap shoe with a higher heel I would steer clear of Miller and Ben shoes. They take a bit of getting used to and you may have a hard time with your sounds.
Cost relates to the materials used, etc. Shoes like Miller and Ben are carefully made with the highest quality leathers. You have to buy the taps separately. You're able to design your shoe. They're built to last and they're a piece of art.
Shoes that are made in a factory are churned out by the hundreds, use less expensive materials, and often come with taps.
I'm not saying one is superior, it's a matter of what you need as a dancer. Most people get along just fine with the less expensive shoes.
