I Need To Find An Article On Sports Injuries Caused By Bad Coaching. Where Can I Find One

Shin pain after just starting running?

I'm a cross country runner in 8th grade(:

It sounds like you have shin splints from running on hard surfaces.
Running in the grass will help it hurt not as bad and keep it from getting worse.
You can treat it by icing your shins. (20 min with ice, 20 min no ice, 20 min with ice.)

Shin Splints is where your muscle on your shin is tearing away from your bone. And the ice will help. But if it keeps getting worse to the point where you cant stand it i would go to your doctor. And sometimes taking a day or two off is good. You should have at least one day off a week.

Wearing helmets when vaulting?

OK, I need my curiosity satisfied. Google didn't help me out, so here I am at YA...

This question is for people who do vaulting or who have worked with vaulting trainers.

Are helmets generally worn when doing vaulting work, or are they considered unsafe? What is the general practice among people who do this? And if it is a common practice to go bareheaded, what is the reasoning behind that practice?

Thinking of taking up jogging, have you any advice?

Yes, I do Sister. First of all congratulations on taking your 'first step' in getting into better shape.
We all should be getting 30 minutes to an hour of exercise a day, depending on our own current conditioning status.

Although I've traded running for rollerblading (due to my injury, not sports related) I still have good advice for you.

Before my injury I was what some call an exercise fanatic. That turned out to be a good thing, due to the nature of my injury. Take my advice, we all need more exercise.

You need a combination of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Your cardio is most important, but don't forget your muscle/skeletal system. Keep it in shape and you'll be able to do your running alot more efficiently.

Don't forget your runners stretches. At the very least, stretch you quadraceps, hamstrings, calves, and soleus before you run. Their are plenty of websites that will show you how.

As far as shoes go, whether you choose Asics, Nikes, Adidas, New Balance, Brooks, Pumas or others, make sure they are the right Type of shoe. You may like racketball and have great cross training shoes, but if you are going to strictly run get good running shoes, but use them only for running! Important: If you pivet in them you may sprain or brake an ankle. Don't play tennis or racketball in them! They are only for running.

There are some great 'gel shoes' out there but you will have to pay a decent amount for them. You get what you pay for.

Please don't run too much down steep hills as the downward incline will put an unbalanced load on your knees and hips. You will feel it. Level and uphill running are your best choice.

About your hydration, just as important as gear, get to your vitamin store and get some Ribose (D-Ribose) It's a powder you mix in water. (check it out on-line) There are several brands. Drink it before you run. Don't forget your general hydration, before, during and after your run.

I could go on all day. If you need to know more just click my e-mail. Thanks for asking and have a great day!

Is my ankle sprained?

It could be a sprain, but it also could be tarsal tunnel syndrome or tendonitis. Healing usually takes several weeks. Continue to rest it and ice it, and use a compression ankle bandage. And check here for more information.

And you might want to try some range of motion exercises to help it.
