What do you think is the main theme of this poem?
I WANDERED LONELY AS A CLOUD I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle on the Milky Way, They stretched in never-ending line along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, in such a jocund company: I gazed - and gazed - but little thought what wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. William Wordsworth.
Poems with 10 literary devices?
"Remember Me" by Alice Walker The poem is about the journey of the black woman from bondage and slavery to freedom. You can find both the poem and an analysis of it's theme here: http://www.articlesbase.com/poetry-articles/analysis-of-alice-walkers-remember-me-justice-and-injustice-healing-and-suffering-4573175.html These are the literary features I can find when reading the poem: 1) Rhetorical question - "Remember me?" 2) Repetition - "I am the girl" and "I am the woman" 3) Listing - "holding their babies, cooking their meals, sweeping their yards, washing their clothes" 4) Contrast - Walker talks about her rotting teeth and wounded eye and melted ear in the first part of the poem. Later, she talks about her repaired teeth, healed eye and ear that hears. 5) Metaphor - the two flowers are metaphors for justice and hope. 6) Assonance - "the ear that hears." 7) Internal Rhyme - "whose shoes are thin" 8) End Rhyme - "with the dark skin / whose shoes are thin" 9) Consonance - "holding their babies / cooking their meals / sweeping their yards / washing their clothes" 10) Enjambment - "I would give / to the human race / only hope."
