I Never Had An Issue With Acne Before I Had My Daughter And Now She Is Almost 3 And I Can

How can I get my 18 year old daughter to stop obsessing over her acne?

I do most definitely have comparison for her and I understand what it's like to have a break out, but she's letting this control our lives. She's starting the college she had been looking forward to going to for years in a month and is panicking that her face won't be cleared by then. She really hasn't enjoyed this summer because she's stayed in hiding because of her face. If she has a break out, she just won't leave the house. I can't coax her out. She was supposed to go back to school shopping with her younger sister today (my 13 year old) and flaked out all because of the break out. She has just a few spots on her chin and one somewhat large spot on the side of her nose. She's now saying that she doesn't want to go on the family vacation that's already booked. We're supposed to leave on Thursday. Her plane ticket and everything else has been booked, and we want to go as a family and enjoy it!

She never had a break out until just recently, and it's really affected her confidence. If she's had it earlier in her teens she might have learned how to manage her life with it by now. She's a really beautiful girl and I honestly don't think the acne is that bad, but I can't convince her of that. We've tried almost everything this summer to get her to lighten up. I treated her to all new makeup and hair highlights to help try to make her feel better, but it didn't work. She's gotten treatment from a good dermatologist but he said it would take a while for it to really be effective.

What else can I do?

Did you have bad acne when you were a teenager?

I had moderate acne as a teen. I don't have scars now, but I was a teen in the '70's and there weren't a lot of good remedies.

I wasn't chubby, I was as skinny as a rail. I remember being too tall for girl's pants and too skinny for a size 3 juniors, so I wore floods. And got made fun of for them. When I was in 7th grade I was probably 5'6 and I remember a girl in my school calling me a "98 pound weakling". It hurt because I really did weigh 98 pounds. Somewhere I have the "awkward school picture" hall of fame class picture. I was standing between two cute petite 5'1" girls looking like a string bean. Ugh. Who had the sense to pose us like that. I never did gain weight until I had my kids in my 30's. Let's just say life has a way of turning around. I'm now almost 50 and ten pounds overweight.

My hair wasn't frizzy, but to my dismay I never could get a good Farah Fawcett flip. It was the rage. When the Dorothy Hamill wedge came in, It was perfect. But it looked awful on me.

No braces. Just a garden variety dork.

Acne at 18?

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facwcacecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice coldca water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to ‘double bag’ your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.
I never have had acne, a few pimples on my left chin where I am most likely to rest my hand.
The secret is never to touch the spots

The People’s Pharmacy reports that Milk of Magnesia applied topically, at night is useful. This is 10% Magnesium Hydroxide in water. Epsom salts, which are Magnesium sulphate added to a hot bath are also reported to clear up back acne.

An increase in IODINE (Seafood, milk, Lugols) is often beneficial.

The very latest treatment is super gross, but works: August 2014, T. Borody: Faecal transfer from someone with perfect skin (and I’d guess, same gender.) Is acne a permanent thing?

I told my daughter the same thing, it will go away, and I was right! I recommended that she use a product called Belli skin care's Blemish Facial Wash. She has used it now for over a year and her skin is clear. It's chemical free, so its good for your skin.

My girlfriend has bad acne and it bothers her a lot. How can I get her to see she's still beautiful even with the acne?

Oh, this was really cute! The psychological effects of acne are often overlooked, even if it is devastating for the person suffering from acne.A recent online survey conducted by BSF (BritishSkin Foundation) found that when people were asked to rank what they thought were the first three areas affected by their skin condition, 70% said the decline in self-esteem was their biggest problem; 42% said it affected their work, and more than half (56%) said that finding friends was one of their biggest problems when it came to skin diseases. From the results of the BSF study, it is clear that acne can make the sufferers feel socially anxious, with lowered self-esteem, often depressed and even worse..But I’m gonna tell you about my friend, Tina, who has cystic acne since.. the past decade. And she is perfectly fine with it - this is the skin she lives in. I consider her attitude towards the problem very impressive - she often jokes about the bigger pimples (“It will need its own passport”, “Consider this pimple my second head” etc.)The thing is that she was never desperate because of her skin problem, nor should your girlfriend be. Try to explain that to her! And it is not about one’s appearance. The woman I’m talking about is currently married (happily), has children and loooooads of friends. She just had a totally positive attitude and her life was never ruled by the presence of her pimples.Never forget to compliment your girlfriend, whatever the occasion. And do not your attitude towards her - your effort to help really made me smile!Hope my answer helps!

Does vyvanse cause acne?

According to Drugs.com, and Centre Watch.......
Vynanse (drug name: Lisdexamfetamine Dimesylate), is a noradrenaline and dopamine reuptake inhibitor.
http://www.drugs.com/ppa/lisdexamfetamin...
http://www.centerwatch.com/drug-informat...

Acne is not listed as a side effect, though skin rashes is:
http://www.drugs.com/sfx/lisdexamfetamin... .
However, for another drug of the name Buproprion, and of the same class (i.e. noradrenaline and dopamine reuptake inhibitor), acne is listed as an adverse event:
http://www.drugs.com/sfx/bupropion-side-effects.html

Bare in mind also that another comment on Drugs.com is the following:
"Please note - some side effects for Lisdexamfetamine may not be reported."

Thus i think you can conclude from this that acne as an adverse effect could occur on vynanse. The experience of some others, and your experience also look to be testimony to that.

And anyhow, more dopamine means more testosterone. And more testosterone often means more acne in those prone.

Perhaps you should change your doctor to one that could be bothered to do the research......it should not rocket science for a doctor. If you are otherwise happy on your current medication, you could talk to your doctor about whether or not you would be a suitable candiate for taking such as Yasmin....a pill that should counteract the testosterone/acne effect. It is not suitable for everyone, and whether you could take it or not will also depend on what meds you take, but you need a knowledgeable doctor. You could also talk to a pharmacist.....perhaps mostly more knowledgeable than doctors when it comes to drug adverse reactions and ok drug combinations.

Best wishes.
