I Ordered A Package But Put The Wrong Address

What will happen with my package sent to the wrong address? I recently ordered a package and everything is right, but my the last digit of my address’s number is one higher, so where will my package go?

In much of the first world today, it will go to the address indicated. Go visit your neighbor and get it.If your neighbor won’t give it up, you can try explaining this to the place where you ordered it from. If it is a paperback book that cost $5, they might just ship you another for free. If it is a $5000 computer, they will try to get it back. If they succeed, they will probably ship it to you again. What can you do? Not much. Be more careful with valuable stuff.Oh, and if the address does not exist it will go back to the distribution center and wait for you to pick it up. Or, if you get a lot of stuff shipped to you - and I mean a LOT of stuff - the delivery guy will know the address is wrong and give you the package.

I ordered something online but put the wrong address - will UPS redirect the package to the right address?

No....but if you call UPS right away with your tracking information, they will redirect the package for you.

1-800-PICK-UPS

If no one accepts the package at the old address within 3 attempts, the package will go back to the shipper. UPS has no way of knowing you have a new address unless you tell them.

For example...if you turned in a change of address with the postal service, then USPS knows, but they don't share that information with UPS because we are a private company....the only way we know about a change of address is if we are notified directly.

I ordered something on Amazon and put down the wrong address. It hasn't shipped yet, but its too late to cancel. What do I do?

IF the package has not entered the shipping process you may be able to have the address changed. If it has the only thing you can do is cancel the order through customer service (usually through Logistics, but that tends to depend on timing). If it is UPS or FedEx, get on their website, enter the tracking number and request a different delivery address. Usually having them hold it at the local facility of your choice is free.USPS you can ask them them to forward your package.ALWAYS pay attention to the address you send stuff to. Make sure the default address is to the one you send things to the most and delete all old addresses so not to have this happen.

I put the wrong Zip Code on my order will I still get my package?

I put the wrong zip code accidentally on my order but have my name, address, city & state on it just the Zip code is wrong. I tracked my order on USPS.com & it said it was shipped to that Zip code on December 29th but it never came. It was mailed to my city & state but not my Zip Code. Do you think I will get my package or what because everything is correct except for the zip code & the zip code I accidentally put is still part of my city just not MY actual zip code. What should I do?

An international shipper got my address wrong, they put the wrong country. Will it still get to me here in the US?

That is going to depend on the country that receives the package. Some countries are understanding and will allow for the address to be corrected and sent on (probably with a new postal fee) while others will “cage” those packages and then demand paperwork and high fees to release the package (sometimes hundreds of dollars per day in fees).

What happens if you put the wrong state for your address when ordering something online, however, had the correct ZIP code and actual address?

Within the United States, a ZIP code represents a USPS delivery are for a given month. ZIP codes can change at any time as needed by the US Postal Service. Each ZIP code is serviced by a specific post office, which may not even be in the same city as the ZIP code. ZIP codes can span cities, counties and even states. The easiest way to understand a ZIP code is to think of it as an alias for a city+state (though that is not completely accurate). So, when you enter a mailing address, you are submitting a street address and a city+state or ZIP code (or both). Think of it like this:1402 West Center St Orem, UT - (street + city + state)1402 West Center St 84057 - (street + ZIP code)1402 West Center St Orem, UT 84057 - (street + city + state + ZIP code)The ZIP code is a redundancy check for the city+state. That was a long answer. A short answer is that you should be fine. Once it is into the mail stream it will be corrected. The hangup could be if the website owner doesn’t do good address validation. If they do it right, they will find it and correct it before shipping.[disclosure - I know all this stuff because I work at an address validation software company called smartystreets]

If I put the wrong city or address down but the right zip code down for a package or envelope will it go to the correct address?

When I was working as a postman, mail was sorted in two stages — machine sorting for anything machine readable with zipcodes / postcodes on, then by hand down to street/housenumber.There is (was?) much more manual sorting than you’d expect as the mail was sorted down to bundles of “walkable blocks”.There’s a sanity check — if the name on one item doesn’t match any of the other mail, it might be wrong, and you’ll double check. Most people don’t move, and if you do the same mailrun for a while you’ll eventually know people’s addresses by heart due to sheer repetition. If the zip code is right, the street name matches the zipcode, and the family name matches too — chances are it will be delivered even though the city doesn’t match. If the zipcode doesn’t match a known street name in the area it will end up in the “wrong postcode bin” and gets sorted by hand, possibly involving a manual postcode lookup.

I ordered a package and said my zip code was 37089 when it was 37087, but I put the right address and everything else, should I be worried or will the post office sort it out?

The post office has a database of all known addresses. It will read the address and make the correction. If the address is unreadable, an image of that address is sent by intranet to a remote keying facility where an employee will attempt to read the address and make the correction. If they can figure the address out, the mail will be delivered, if it can’t it will be pulled out of the mail stream and returned to sender. I put the wrong State on an online order?

your fine. as long as the zip code is on it, you'll get it. actually, you could even leave the town and state off (but you need the zip), and you would still receive a letter/package
