I Postponed Jury Duty But .

How many times can you postpone jury duty?

If you have a doctor that can write a letter to the courts stating that you cannot participate in jury duty due to health reasons it would get you out of it for the rest of your life.

You can also go into each of the jury selection interviews and throw some crap at them to ensure they don't pick you for ANY jury ever.

Tell them that you don't even have to listen to the testemony at a trial because God will reveal to you whether the person is guilty or not before it even begins. Have fun with it. Before you go in, swish a little vodka or rum around in your mouth and get right in the DA's face. Ask them to repeat questions over and over again like you can't hear them. Ask them how many times you can take a break to go to the toilet during the hearing because you have urge incontinence. Tell them you're fascinated with the judicial system and want to bring a tape recorder or camera in. Tell them that you can't wait to tell all of your friends everything that happens every day. Tell them you can spot a guilty person from a mile away (that's my personal favorite). After a few of those interviews they'll never call you again.

How many times can you postponed jury duty?

You can only postpone it once per summons.

If you already postponed the current summons once, then you have to go in if called in.

Is the warrant related to jury duty, or for something else?

If you skip out on jury duty, it is within the judge's authority to put out a warrant for your arrest. Avoiding jury duty is punishable by a fine, and even jail time. So whatever trouble you're in, not going in for jury duty can only add to your problems.

Jury Duty postponement?

Being excused last time probably has no impact on your selection or ability to postpone.

I don't know what state you live in. For Texas, it depends on which court, you can get excused if you are a full time student, need full time care or a care giver, have children under 12, you are over 70 or active military. I'm not sure that they verify any of that. You just check the box and send it back. You can postpone the date 1 time per summons for convenience ie business, travel etc but it has to be approved by the court ahead of time and you have to go down there in person to ask.

I was told by my attorney that unless I got the summons registered mail I didn't have to go cuz they would be unable to prove I got it. Worst case, I would get a follow letter telling me not to miss again and inviting me back next month. I blew off the next 4 in a row and got the follow up letter the last time.

If you had a hardship last time do you not still have it?
If I was you, I'd go down in person before your date and ask them to move it up to before you start. They will probably never had that happen and would get all the clerks and judges involved to see if that was OK.

Employers are generally pretty good about letting you off if you show them the actual summons.

Postponement for Jury Duty NYV?

Don't know NYV unless mean NYC

Almost always, 1st time easy and accepted. Large cities put the schedule online and give you an immediate choice. If that needs reschedule, they may want a call-in.

NY State says
You can postpone your service once online or by calling 800-449-2819 at least one week before your date of service. Have your juror index number (from your summons) with you when you call. Pick a date between 2 and 6 months from the date on your summons and you will be assigned the available date closest to your choice. Any future request for postponement or excusal must be made by contacting your local commissioner of jurors office.

NYC is apparently using the state system so it is as stated

Can you postpone jury duty twice?

I just got a summons for a month from now, but it is on a day I have three classes. I know I can postpone this time, but it says to give a date I'm available within the next 90 days. I still have class until May, so I'm wondering if I get another summons after postponing for classes one time if I can postpone it again for the same reason? Or should I just go this time since later it might conflict with finals?

What happens if you have to postpone jury duty more than once?

You can go to court and plead to be excused. Usually a court will not impose undue hardship on you.

Sorry, but you will have to reschedule your trip out of town.

It is important that civic minded citizens make themselves available to ensure that innocent accused are set free, and guilty accused are not. Making the distinction is part of what ensures your freedom, limited as it is.
