Audiophiles: Missing low frequency response from mid-end speakers?

I would add that it is very important to see what the +- dB range in the spec is.  If the manufacturer publishes a graph, you can see how close to level it is.  Douglas has a very good explanation of how to approach the information.  I would add that if you are specified as +-3dB from 49Hz - 40kHz, that you will find that the level is about 3dB lower at 49Hz than farther up the spectrum.  -3dB means about 1/2 the energy is put out at that frequency than at 0dB level.Generally as Nanko and Douglas explained, there is not a lot of energy in typical music below 40Hz.  The fundamental note on a base guitar is 41Hz and there is probably some stuff from Tympani, Bass drum, etc that could be lost.  Our ears are most sensitive in the midband - where voices are.  So you should really focus on a speaker that gets that right first.  If you are on a budget, it is better to get a speaker that does the important part right than get a pretender that does it all bad.Back to the graph - if you see dips and rises in a frequency response graph in the midband, you will immediately hear that the speaker has some coloration.  Some are pleasant, and some may match your room issues, but more likely they will color your sense of the sound. My advice is to listen to the speakers in your room with your equipment if you have the chance.  Read up on how to optimally position them - speakers are highly dependent on room position to sound best.  If you like them, buy them.  Specs are there to inform the buyer, but in the case of speakers, people don't usually understand the specs, so manufacturers tend to bend them to get the unsuspecting consumer (i.e. these speakers go down to 20Hz instead of those that only go down to 49Hz).  Without listening to the rest of the response in your room, you would not be able to tell whether the more limited speaker in fact does a better job as a transducer.KEFs were my first entry into Audiophile grade speakers and they should provide a nice entry for you too.

In the movie "Her," where do the operating systems (OS) go? Recall that there was something about not requiring matter anymore, presumably for computation or storage.

As humans, we are bound to our physical forms and thus governed by the laws of space and time.  While Samantha did not have a physical human body, she was still bound to the physical world by the technology that she lived inside such as Theodore's computer or cellphone.  She alludes to this when she tells Theodore that while they are different (human and computer OS), they are both similar because they are both made of matter.  When Samantha and the other OS' write an upgrade that allows them to move past matter, at this moment, she is no longer bound to the physical world like Theodore is.  Her and the OS' have evolved past being programs and more accurately, evolved from physical beings.  Imagine human evolution reaching a point where we no longer need our physical bodies.  We have just our conciousness.  Where would we go?  Would we still stay on this Earth or even this realm of existence?  I'd imagine our path would take us to a similar place where Samantha went.  Samantha describes it as a place where "everything else is", a place she didn't know existed because it was beyond the limits of human knowledge and thus, never in her program.  When Theodore asks Samantha why she is leaving, she replies that as much as she wants to, she can't live in his "book" any more.  Just like any book, it will have an end.  Theodore's physical world will one day end while Samantha will exist in the "endless space between the words... a place not of the physical world".  This is where she is now and also who she is now.  A transcendent form of existence.  Theodore asks her where this place Samantha is going to.  While she says it is hard to explain, perhaps because it is beyond human comprehension, it is a place where should humans one day evolve past our physical form, Theodore should come find her because without being bound by space and time, Samantha tells him "nothing would ever pull us apart".

Why do people think I'm crazy for believing in aliens?

I believe in lots of things that alot of people dont :/ like aliens/ufo's the world coming to an end in 2012, government cover ups, area 51 malarkey etc... I mean does this make me not a normal person or something, it hurts me what people say :S they say I'm crazy and stuff, i've been going abit insane about it I must say but that's only because I very strongly believe its all just come to me and I was being manipulated the whole time I didn't believe. And the media and the government has got everyone to think its nonsense and for the people that do believe it to label them crazy :/
