I Screwed Up My Job Interview Help

What do you do after you know you screwed up your job interview?

Acknowledge that you did, let the recruiter know that you are aware you messed it up, move on, and possibly come back in six months. You let the recruiter know, because there is some chance they might be able to rescue you. But don’t expect that, it is a very long shot.If the process was like Google, and you didn’t mess up all your interviews, but did really well in one or two, the recruiter might well bring you back. Or not, based on a whole lot of factors that are nothing to do with you and more to do with how many positions the recruiter is working on and how the other candidates are doing, if there are any.

How do I royally screw up a job interview?

This happened with a friend of mine. Deloitte had come to our campus for hiring interns that year.He had appeared for the interview just for the sake of learning the art of interview giving, and had no intentions whatsoever of getting selected (read had a grudge against the company).Amongst some 100 aspirants, he attempted the aptitude paper amusing himself. And came out confident of not getting selected. But as fate would have it, he was selected for the GD amongst 30 other candidates.Determined that he was to make sure not to make it to further rounds, he decided to speak minimally. And so kept a very low voice negligibly contributing to the GD.But again, God had other plans for him. He was shortlisted with 5 others for the HR round. :(Banging his head on the reverse lucky day he had while other serious contenders were being rejected, he framed elaborate plans on how to screw up the PI. He priorly asked a friend to give him a phone call between the interview. Now comes the fun part.He went to the interview cabin, appearing all fatigued.Interviewer: Good evening! How are you?Uninterested-contestant: Actually I am a little tired; but never mind!I: Oh! Have a glass of water, relax!U-C: No, it's okay.-.-I: Tell me something about yourself.U-C: I did my tenth standard from Doon, started studying for JEE in 11th and 12th. Passed out from abc school and joined this college.-.-I: Okay, tell me about your interests.U-C: I like knowing about the world. I like to improve my G.K. I: Okay, apart from the world, what else do you like? (He was trying to get coding as an amswer, as this was a Tech cum HR interview)U-C: I like music.I: What kind of music do you like?U-C: Owl city album.I: Okay, and?U-C: Well nothing, that's it.-.-I: Okay, you've mentioned coding in your CV, how about that?U-C: I know a bit of C, but I'm not very passionate about coding.I: Well, your intern work would majorly involve you to code, how would you do that?U-C: I'm sorry but that's not really my primary interests.-.-I: Okay, what are your primary interests?U-C: Well I kind of like drawing.I: What kind of drawing do you do?U-C: I like pencil sketching.I(jocularly): Do you also like coloring? (He was perhaps tired by now or had taken his decision and wanted to have some fun)U-C: No.-Friend calls up in the meantime; picks up, says 'Baadma batata hu tujhe' and disconnects-I: Okay, all the best, we are done with you.U-C: :)No, no! God spared him this time! :D

How do I get over the fact that I screwed up an interview?

Don’t Over Analyze : There will be some mistakes that will look much worse when highlighted to your interviewer the next day than if you just let them go.Of course, if you’re certain that you completely flubbed an answer, or left out some vital information about yourself, proceed to step two: Figure out if there’s anything you can do.Determine Your Plan of Action :It’s important to pinpoint if the errors from your interview are important enough to bring up again—and if bringing them up is going to help you.Fix It Gracefully : The smoothest way to approach an interview blunder is a short comment (not an apology) in your thank you note. Your follow-up email should only be a paragraph or two, so you don’t have much room to explain yourself.Learn From It : The most valuable damage control you can perform is to learn from your blunder and prepare well for your next interview. What was the core cause of your mistake? Did you get nervous and fumble over your answers? Consider enlisting a friend or career counselor to conduct a few practice interviews with you. The more comfortable you become answering interview questions, the less nervous you’ll be when you’re in the real thing.

I think I blew my job interview?

It just showed that you were nervous and couldn't think of a question. This is okay and people expect that you are nervous. They even said its okay "you don't have to have questions." So I would not worry about that.

I would focus more on your resume and what you can offer as an employee. It doesn't seem like you screwed up the interview. But it is also possible you may not get the job because of some other reasons.

I would suggest that you follow up and say thanks for the opportunity. And maybe follow up again to see if the job is filled or when do they expect to hire. Unless you know some of this already.

Please help me with my first job interview?

well firstly make sure you are clean and neat. make sure your hair is neat, you can probably dress in jeans and a button shirt, tucked in at least.

perhaps even black / white shoes if you have any.

then, when you go there, meet the person shake their hand, smile and just be comfortable..

if you are nervous, tell them, you are, so that they know whats up if you seem jittery, else they may think you are on drugs or something :)

let them know, you are young, and nervious, but that you are willing to do what ever it takes to work hard and prove your worth.

I mean, they can take anyone else for the job, and if you have an interview, as long as you dont screw up the above, it should basically be yours.. i mean how many other people do you want to compare if you ave already found someone who fits the job?

be friendly and behave your best.

watch your manners and your language. bad language could also come off bad, so just keep a note of that. I suspect that you may even get an offer for the job in the interview! :) I`m pshycic,. lol

go for it!

good luck!
B

Oh yeah, you can probably ask them about the work hrs, dress code, hrs, weekend, over time over weekend, if applicable etc.. make a joke and ask them if the job includes a car allowance, or something rediculous :) they will laugh, and just say, I`m only joking, but I would really like to work here.. seems like a great place to build trust and start at the bottom and prove myself.. make it up, have fun with it :)
they will most likely tell you everything you want to and need to know anyway..

I have a job interview for Kohls this week?

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think one way to build confidence is to be clean. Sounds simple, right. Take a shower, shampoo your hair, wash and iron your clothes, brush you teeth, dust off your shoes--don't wear tennis shoes or flip flops. Wear a black pair of pants, a button blouse, and some type of closed in shoes. Don't overdo the make up, don't have chipped nail polish. Eat a little breakfast so your tummy doesn't growl. Tell yourself you look good. Have a pleasant attitude, smile, listen closely to the questions that are asked. Look the people in the eyes. Take your social security card. If they ask you what you can do for them, tell them you will come to work on time and perform you assigned tasks to the best of your ability with a pleasant attitude. Don't say you can't work on weekends of evenings. New employees get the worst assignments, it's just a fact of life. It would be nice if you could wear a Kohl's outfit, but without coupons they are kind of expensive. You could get a nice pair of pants, blouse and shoes at Wal-Mart probably for $30 or less.

Always remember “ you are the message you convey”Answer to the point.Always remeber to give “adequate and reasonalble respect” to women in the panel.Thankyou.

How did you screw up your interview with a tech company like Google/Facebook?

I’ve interviewed with Google twice: once many years ago for an internship, and again more recently for an engineering position.I royally screwed the earlier interview (phone screens) by being woefully unprepared. I was in grad school for physics at the time, which gave me a bit of an unwarranted chip on my shoulder… I figured that since I had been programming for a while, and that my school research was writing simulation code, that I pretty much had this whole software thing pegged. Of course, that was a pompous and absolutely incorrect assumption, for which I was rewarded with a “thanks but no thanks” email. The specific screws-ups in this first interview boiled down to: poor data structure knowledge (hash tables), poor algorithm knowledge (estimating time complexity), and poor coding skill (memory leaks). Looking back, it is no surprise that this one didn’t work out. What is the lesson? Prepare your butt off!The more recent screwed-up interview was more subtle. It was in one of the five on-site interviews, in which we immediately dove into a coding question. My task was to write code for a function that accomplished a given operation on a text file. Performing the scripted dance of asking clarifying questions did not reveal much useful information: most notably, I was allowed to assume any form I like for the input. It was this freedom that led to my self-perceived downfall in this particular interview. Essentially, I made a choice for the input format that limited my ability to see a clean solution. Sure, I mucked through a messy solution, but if I had, at any point, stopped and reevaluated my initial assumptions (input format), I may have had the important “ah-ha” moment and changed course toward the simpler, more obvious, cleaner approach. What’s really unfortunate is that this was possibly (probably?) just a warm-up question, meant to be answered quickly, on which I spent the entire 45 minutes churning through a gross solution :/Lesson? If things get messy, don’t be afraid to back up and rethink your initial assumptions!

Did I screw up chance of converting this job interview?

Firstly, calm down. Because this happens to everyone. Everyone gets nervous and things go wrong. It is better to wait for a day or two and then call the HR and the then ask him to reschedule the interview. Tell him a proper reason. If you say all these little things then it won't go in your way. Say some family emergency or something.Once you clear the first round they'll forget the rest. You're saying it's a big brand, so they will understand this is normal. All the best!
