I Sent My Licence Off For Change Of Address And They Put A Cat On Plastic

What is the difference between automatic and semi-automatic cars?

Automatic transmission in a car means that the gear changes are all done by the car. These sticks means that the car is completely automatic - you only need to put it on drive mode, and the car will do all the necessary gear change by itself.P is park,R is Reverse,N is Neutral, meaning the car can roll by itself,D is Drive,The lower 2 may changed, but those two are options to lock the gears in one gear ratio. L is the lower gear, and 2 only allows the car to use first or second gear. However, the semi-automatic is different in that while it does not change gears by itself, it instead “helps” the driver switch through gears.(They are also called paddle-shift gearboxes, because there are usually paddles on the back to change the gears)The semi-automatic transmission has no need for a clutch for this reason - it does it for the driver. So, all the driver has to do is tell the car what gear he wants, and the car does it for him/her.For semi-automatic cars that have a stick for gear changes, they have up or down :Modern semi-automatic cars usually do have a automatic gear change option as well. The picture above shows the gears in semi-automatic mode, but if the driver pushes it left, it will be automatic. So basically:A semi-automatic has the driver order the car to move up or down a gear,An automatic has the car doing everything for the driver - the driver doesn’t have to worry about gears at all.

Is it a legal requirement to have a front license plate on a car in California? What will happen if I don't install it on the front?

So, according to vehicle code section 5200, if you were issued 2 license plates for your vehicle, you are required by law to attach them to your vehicle. Really?I have been wondering about this law. This last weekend, I dined on the west side of Los Angeles and viewed so many vehicles without their front license plates. At first I thought vehicles like, Maseratis , Porsches, BMWs, or high end cars were not issued front license plates or exempt. Wrong. The owners just don’t attach it. Now I’m seeing high end cars, low end cars, and everyone in-between; many cars are missing front license plates.Apparently there aren’t many tickets being written for this violation. It seems like there is no fear; or maybe the ticket violation is not much. I do admit many cars look great without the front license plate, however, the law is the law. Or is it? Maybe law enforcement can shed some light on this phenomena .

What are some slang terms used among police officers?

The most derogatory terms for the bad guys and citizens who are just pains in the rectum:A.H. = Adam Henry (A-dam H-enry) If you don’t get it…..sometimes you will hear it as “Jack Hole”…..now what starts with an “A” that ends with HOLE ?RICHARD CRANIUM= What starts with a “D” and is a nickname for Richard ? What is the non-medical layman’s term for the Cranium ? Do these clues HEAD you in the right direction ?

In California, is it illegal to drive without a front license plate if you are a resident of and your vehicle is validly registered in a state that only requires and only issues a rear license plate (example being Florida, Louisiana, etc.)?

It is not illegal and I have given tickets out mistakenly in this manner that had been rejected by my superior or computer system. So it is LEGAL in California to drive with no-front plate that is registered outside of California. However the how the law in interpreted is where the local enforcement can change. Some cities don’t add an admendment or additional rule to their jurisdiction. Local cities cannot weaken a state or federal law but can make it MORE Strict. If a city wanted revenue it could enforce a rule that makes it unlawful to drive with a front identification plate. In Hollywood we strictly enforced the missing front plate on residents but left the tourist go because the city/movie/tv/entertainment industry wanted tourist here to spend $$$. We want them to go home happy even if they did a minor mistake so they can return once again. Now is a system not about enforcement of rule but if something that ruffles the feathers or gets the attention of important people.

What happens if you put aviation fuel in a regular car?

Note: I am not an expert on automobile engines and the effect of aviation fuel on automobile engines. The parts of this post that relate to automobile engines are based upon discussions with my long-time friend and aircraft mechanic…Jet Fuel (Jet-A, JP-1, etc.) is the standard fuel for turbine engines (jets, airliners, etc.) in the aviation world. It is incompatible with almost all gasoline-burning automobile engines, so ‘nuf said about Jet Fuel. Most aircraft piston engines still run on gasoline… specifically, a particular blend of gasoline known as 100LL. The “LL” stands for “Low Lead”, which translates to “a lot of lead.” The lead in 100LL is in the form of Tetra-ethyl-lead (TEL). 100LL is very similar to the gasoline burned by automobiles, but the addition of TEL makes it toxic to the inner workings of modern automobile engines, as well as catalytic converters. The lead boosts the octane of what would otherwise be a lower-octane fuel. 100LL is also formulated to perform well at higher altitudes (in thin air).If you put 100LL in a car manufactured in the past couple of decades, you’ll probably foul your spark plugs and ruin your emissions controls, although I’m told that the engine itself wouldn’t suffer any catastrophic damage. I do know a couple of people who have put 100LL in their cars when they ran out of gas… just enough to get to the next gas station… with no ill effects. Since it is a high-octane fuel, your engine isn’t going to “blow up.”Some lower-powered, normally aspirated aircraft engines run just fine on automobile gas, and there are STC’s (Supplemental Type Certificates) that allow aircraft owners to do this. Many years ago, there was a big boom in getting these STC’s, which helped make flying affordable again for many people. 100LL is a very expensive fuel, due to inverse economy of scale.

Best bait for fishing off the harbor in Ventura, CA.?

"off the harbor..."
what exactly do you mean?
fishing offshore, off of ventura harbor, or rather actually fishing FROM the jetties or breakwater?
offshore, just out from the marina, you are most likely to catch:

1) white croaker for which anchovy pieces are as good as any other bait, also known as ronkies, kingfish, pasadena trout, along with others.

2) sand bass (in season), live anchovies and sardines are the most used baits on commercial sport boats. plastic jigs and swimbaits like scampis and big hammers and more... probably the best for private boaters.
oh, yeah... the shale. a hard bottom bank about 3 miles out, out from the 5th street steam plant. look for 70 to 100 foot depths. there is a number of wrecks in the area that harbor a year round population of black sea bass. illegal to keep, though.

3) halibut on live anchovies, sardines and brown bait. they will also hit a number of lures.

4) sharks. grey and brown smoothhounds, a few blues, the occasional thresher and even once in a while, a mako.

these are the MAIN species off of ventura harbor. now, if one is fishing off of the rocks on either jetty or the short rocky groins along the beach or any of the sandy stretches of beach l firmly believe FRESH mussels are the number one bait. especially around the rocks. anchovies and/or clams a close second. in the sandy surf, live sand crabs, fresh anchovy and fresh clams, in that order, will be your best baits. also include ventura pier fishing.
a short list of species available in these areas follows.
white croaker
yellowfin croaker
spotfin croaker
queenfish
sargo
barred surf perch
buttermouth perch
rubberlip perch
cabezon
brown rockfish, grass rockfish and other assorted rockfish
skates, stingrays and bat rays
sand sharks (smoothhounds), leopard sharks
butterfish
mullet
striped bass (very rare but there, along with salmon)
smelt
mackerel, jack and pacific
bonito
barracuda
there may be more and some of these are seasonal but they have all been caught in the area between the pier and marina, from the shoreline out as far as you care to go and still call it fishing off of the ventura marina, pier or beach areas.
