I Sprained My Ankle And Want To Know How Much Crutches Are Where Can I Buy Them

Do you need crutches for a sprained ankle?

Depends on how bad the sprain is. If it really hurts, is swollen, and you can't walk on it, i'd get some crutches and use them for a few days until it's healed. Usually about three days is all that is needed for a minor sprain. For a major sprain, it can be as long as two months. You should also go to the doctor and see what they say, have them take x-rays in case it's broken. And keep it iced. Ice it as much as you can. Hope this helps.

Do I need crutches for a sprained ankle?

I hurt my ankle earlier today. Can't afford the ER co-pay, but my sister's a nurse and told me it seemed to be a moderate sprain. I have an ace bandage on it and a brace- both have helped reduce the severe pain I was having when walking. But it still hurts when putting weight on it & I have a limp.

I know I should just stay off it, but I'm in college and really cannot miss my classes tomorrow. I have crutches I could use, but I'm not very good with them & I'm pretty sure I'd break my neck using the stairs. (No elevator there).

Orthopedic sites say to use crutches/crutch as long as you have a limp, but I think I'd rather deal with the pain than the crutches. Will it be fine if I just leave them at home?

How do I sprain my ankle enough to use crutches?

I know your going to say to just fake it but I have had my ankle hurt before and I just want to sprain it and get it over with. Also I know that know one will believe me if I don t have crutches and I want to stay off of it because that will make it heal faster not much but still. Finally if you know a way for me to be on crutches and a walking boot that would be better.

How can I fake an ankle sprain to get on crutches and my mom and dad and friends will belive me?!?

I can't help you with getting crutches, but I can help you get a cast on your arm.

If you fall and you put your arm out to stop yourself, you can break a little bone between your wrist and thumb called the scaphoid. It kills to move your thumb. When the doctor asks where it hurts, point to your wrist through to the base of your thumb. Then describe how you "fell" by putting out your hands to stop yourself.

They can't pick up a break in the scaphoid on an X-ray because it is so tiny.

When you are at the hospital, remember not to move that thumb at all!

How long will you be on crutches for a sprained ankle?

Like Jenny said it really depend on how bad the sprain is for instance if you suffer a grade I sprain you most likely won’t need to use crutches at all you may just have to use an Ankle Stirrup If you suffer a Grade II ankle sprain you may need to use crutches for 2–3 weeks and if you suffer a Grade III (worst sprain possible) you may be on crutches for 1–2 months. This also depends on your bodies natural healing ability and whether or not you are icing your injury. Also I would recommend ditching the crutches for a knee walker or iWalk 2.0 if you have to use the crutches for longer then 2 weeks.

I sprained my ankle, do I need to use crutches?

I can't advise you, but my experience might give you some useful info. I severely sprained my ankle on a Saturday night and I had no insurance. I did not go to the hospital. I did not want to go to urgent care either because I was broke and I figured xrays and crutches would be very costly. I comforted myself knowing that I could probably get some cheap crutches at the thrift store on Monday. BUT I own a horse, so Sunday morning I had to walk to his corral, about 60 feet, in order to feed him then walk back to the house (2x, breakfast and dinner). I also had to move around to go to the bathroom, eat, etc. I did not have crutches or a brace. My ankle was almost the size of a softball. But I walked on it. After the first day I had gotten accustomed to the pain, and I continued to walk on it without a brace or crutches. I stayed off it as much as possible, iced it occasionally and kept the foot elevated. I don't walk with a limp now, and the swelling went away permanently after I soaked my feet in an Epsom salt bath, about a month after the incident. (I would have done it sooner if I'd known that it would take away the swelling and pain!)  I'm convinced that if I had stayed off it (by using crutches and/or a brace) it would have stiffened up and likely created a permanent limp. Not all sprained ankles are the same...I'm just relaying my experience.

Will my doctor give me crutches for a sprained ankle?

It depends on whether weight-bearing on the ankle is permitted. If the doctor thinks that placing the ankle under stress, like bearing the body's weight during walking, is going to delay healing or even worse, compound the injury, he may suggest that you use crutches for a little while.Even if partial weight-bearing is permitted, you'd say advised crutches. If it is suggested, it is important that you use crutches and don't take the suggestion as a matter of choice.Ankle is a complex joint and directly affects ambulation. Also, there's the risk of losing balance and falling to cause an additional injury.

How can I sprain my ankle badly enough to get crutches?

Seriously?Okay. I think the whole "why in the world would you want to do that" has been covered already.I suggest that rather than hurt yourself, just go buy some crutches and fake it if it's that important to you.If you have ever Needed to use crutches, you would know they are horrible. Seriously, they suck. You end up rubbing your underarms raw, you rely too much on muscles that aren't used to being in demand that way. It is a very uncomfortable thing to need to use crutches.I had a time period I kept repeatedly injuring the same ankle, until I eventually went for physical therapy.I badly sprained it while in college, and had to hobble all over a large campus for three weeks. In retrospect, there were options at my school for temp handicap parking had I known to ask.As soon as I could I progressed to a sort of hop/skip with one crutch, and that was still exhausting.Don't hurt yourself on purpose.
