If you are pulled over by the police in the UK and refuse to get out of the car can they force you out or do you need to get out of the car before they can arrest you?
The UK police will smash their way into your car to remove you if needs be.This was demonstrated in the case of Robert Clive Whatley a 70 year old man. The police chased him (he didn’t know he was being chased) when he stopped they lept out and smashed his windows in and dragged him out.Funny enough the police officer who broke the windows and dragged him out won compensation of £400,000 later on.Though it varies on the situation.There is a youtube channel called disi4h3 he actually won a complaint against the Manchester police. This caused the Manchester police to harass and target him even more. There is a video where he is in a van and refuses to get out until he is told why he has been ordered to get out.He refuses and is asked to turn off the video.More police arrive he eventually gets out of the van. The police shout stop resisting arrest and the video device gets smashed.It generally follows normal UK police rules. UK police can’t stop or arrest you for no reason at all. They have to have some sort of reason or suspicion. This reason can be incredibly flimsy. However as long as the reason exists the law will support the side of the police officer.While they can’t say I don’t like the look of you. They can say.You’re wearing too many clothes for the weather!I thought I smelled X on you.Your vehicle looks stolen (my dad had this when he was driving his new car back from the Toyota dealers). It wasn’t stolen and they went over it to look for defects to try and get him on something.Secondly if you don’t comply charges almost always get escalated no matter what. Years ago when the police had presence on the roads they would stop motorbikers and lecture them on safety. It was the time when we were all power rangers wearing full leathers and armored gear.They would stop us and lecture us on safety. Officially we were not under arrest and it wasn’t an official police stop. But if we didn’t listen it became a police stop.
