I Think I Have A Blood Clot Under My Finger Nail

Blood clot in the finger?

Thank you for answering.

I did not do anything to my finger to injure it, I wouldn't have jumped to the conclusion that it could be a blood clot if I had. It just happened all of a sudden, with no provocation.

I'm probably overreacting a little, I realize, but it really scared me to have my finger suddenly turn blue and begin to hurt.

Thank you for the link, but the blue place is near the base of the finger, not the nail.

How do you get rid of a blood clot if it's under your finger nail?

Is it the pressure thats hurting or is it just a nuisance... the reason i ask is that it will probably go away on its own if its just annoying. If its really hurting then you may have an infection brewing. Which is also a problem if you plan on relieving it yourself. Blisters of any sort, when they remain closed are usually pretty clean (unless while you did what you did you got a cut and hence another opportunity for infection), when you open them you give bacteria a warm and moist environment that they love to take up shop in. Advice on how to pop your blister needs to be done in a sterile environment so get some rubbing alcohol and clean everything including your nail that is around you. Once you clean it make sure you dont breath on it, blow it or go anywhere dirty or near a draft. That being said you can basically take a drill bit and use a couple fingers to make a hole. Be gentle and go slow. And doing this is probably gonna hurt as bad as when you slammed your finger... so enjoy and good luck, it would be a good idea to find a doc to look at it if you can.

Blood clot in finger?

Last week I had a bump on my right pointer finger.it was on the side by the top knuckle.it was painful but went away after 3 days.now, very suddenly, I had a strange weak feeling from my wrist to my finger tip on my left pointer finger.the veins are bulging, my finger is swelling up and there's a redish purple area between the top and middle knuckle on the inside.I can barely bend it.there hasn't been any trauma or anything to either iv my hands.is this a blood clot? Should I be worried? It's a Sunday so until tommarrow, the only medical treatment I could get would be at the emergency room, and Id feel rather stupid going in for a finger.any advice or experiences would be appriciated.

How should I fix my fingernail when it seems there is a blood clot underneath it?

If it hurts a lot, lance it see Kevin Allaire's answer to How should I fix my fingernail when it seems there is a blood clot underneath it?, otherwise just wait, the nail will grow pass the place the blood has collected, and it will more of less look normal again.

How can I remove dried blood under my fingernail?

Yep, wait it out. That is the only thing you can do. You could have the nail removed, or pierced with the needle, but it is doubtful a doctor would do that now. My dogs tooth went under my cuticle about 8 months ago, it had to grow out. The nail was damaged and weak, but it had to grow out on its own. No big deal. Get some pretty colors and polish that bruise away!!

!!Finger slammed in door/purple blood clot!!?

I just had my finger slammed in the door! From the first knuckle up to the tip, it's purple from the top of my nail to the underside of my finger. I iced it but it swelled and it looks like I have a purple clot in the cushion part of my finger. It's hard to the touch and hurts like amother!Don't know If I broke the bone or fractured it, but what should I do about the blood? My finger is turning more purple

What could be the cause of dried blood beneath a fingernail?

You may have hit or jammed your finger nail in something and it may have caused the skin under the nail to bleed. I did it once and it hurt when I jammed it in my grandma's wooden door but after it didn't hurt and turned black, it was blood underneath the nail. After 1 or 2 days my nail fell off and the blood just washed off my finger. I then just waited for my finger nail to grow back and it's completely normal now :). Another way to remove the blood, if you would like to and your nail doesn't seem to be falling off, just wait for the nail to grow and the blood should grow with the nail until you can just trim your nail and the blood will be gone. Oh and if you would really like to here is a rather disgusting video of how you can do it by putting tools under your nail.Personally I would never do this but if you would really like to, go ahead :). I hope this helps :)

I smatched my fingernail and there is a big black spot under it. Its been there for 6 weeks. What is it?

What should I do to make it better? Is it possible that won't ever get better? At first I thought it was just a bruise but now that its 6 weeks later I'm not so sure.

I slammed my finger into the door. I now have dark blood under my fingernail. How do I remove it?

What you have is called hematoma. It sounds bad but really isn't. It just means that have ruptured bloodvessles in the muscular layer underneath your dermis (skin). Normally, when it comes to minor blunt trauma liek your injury, no medical attention is needed. The nail will grow and the blood clot with it. It would be best not to "scrap" or try to remove the blood clot yourself because it might just reopen the tear (much like picking at a scab).

Sometimes, if the injury is severe enough, your nail itself might fall off. However, do not be worried because a nail will regrow in its place and it will grow out of the nail bed just like your nails normally grow (except it will not appear nail-like until it has grown out quite a bit).

If you experience any pain other than sensitivity and dull pain in the area, of if the bleeding does not stop or gets worse, consult a physician.

Hopefully, this will just be the minor sort of injury. Heal soon!
