I Think I Have Glaucoma. Scared

I might have Glaucoma? I am really scared?

Today I went to an eye appointment at Walmart and the doctor there said that my optic nerve (or whatever the thing is that makes you have glaucoma) is in between a case of glaucoma and normal. He described to me and my mom that I'll have to take medicine if I am diagnosed with it so I don't go blind. After that, a nurse took pictures inside my eye (hopefully that makes sense) and she claimed they were good after viewing both of them, and she then called the doctor in and he said the same thing. Were they talking about my eyes or the picture quality? This is a serious question.

I am a 14 year old black male, he also said I have high eye pressure I believe. I'm on my computer a lot and lean close to the screen (I don't NEED to lean close to see though, I just do that.). I've had glasses before but lost them and I'm going to be given a new pair soon.

Do i have glaucoma????????

If its caught at an early stage you can control it by treatment (using drops or surgery).

You will have to be careful from now. Have regular eye checkups, use medication if provided by the doctor. You need to control it. Its a similar to diabetes, if you can control it you shall not have major problem. Buy if you fail to control it it can progress and you may lose you vision.

If you are diagnosed (hope not, will pray for you) with glaucoma ask the doctor on how to control it. He will be in a better position after he has assessed you.

I think I have Glaucoma and im only 17....?

Ok im a 17 year old African American female, I do not have diabetes, I had a routine eye exam in like October 2009 , I cant remember what exactly they did and I cant remember if they dilated my eyes. I went back to the eye doctor in December 2009 because I was in class and some people where playing and this girl threw a dmv book at this boy who was sitting next to me and it poked me in the eye and I had a abrasion on my cornea(i think thats what she said) and when I went that day she dialted that one eye. If I had glaucoma would she see it when she dialted that one eye? My grandfather on my mothers side was diagnosed with glaucoma in his 60's but no one else in my family including my fathers side has had it. I see floaters sometimes, I have never had halo vision. But today I was driving and the sun was shinning really bright and my eyes started burning and watering, I havent had any vision problems but I do have astigmatism, and my eye doctor told me I had to wear glasses when on the computer or reading. Please help im so scared! Every since I heard someone talk about it on tv(i think dr.oz) ive been going crazy with thinking I could have glaucoma. And is Glaucoma in teens rare?

I'm scared I have glaucoma!!!!?

In January 2012 I noticed that there were little patches of my eye that I couldn't see out of. I did research on it and I thought it was glaucoma and I told my mom. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so I've worried that I've had things that I didn't so she said u don't have glaucoma then I told my aunt she said to get it checked. Idk if I have it but the vision doesn't seem like anymore has been lost. I intend to tell my mom today cuz I've really been stressing over it!! I just wanna no if it is! Thx

Blindness from glaucoma?

Generally speaking the worst is over if the pressure is now 17. Because you are young you will probably find some improvement through the years. As long as you can keep your eye pressure around 17 you don't have to worry about blindness, but that means you will have to faithfully take the glaucoma medicine.

The doctor that just gave you glasses was clearly negligent. If the doctor didn't test you for glaucoma because of your age is no defense, and if she did the test and got a reading anywhere near 48 she should not have given you glasses instead she should have immediately referred you to a glaucoma specialist. If you have lost any vision as a consequence you should contact an attorney to see if you have a good lawsuit. If you do most likely the doctor has insurance to cover it. Remember there is something called "statute of limitations". This means if you don't take legal action within a year or two you give up the right to sue.

Im seriously scared i have Glaucoma?? please help me..?

you gotta chill cuz it doesn't sound like you have glaucoma.
wanna know how i know? CUZ I HAVE GLAUCOMA.

first of all just cuz someone has glaucoma doesn't mean they will DEFINITELY go blind.
its just if its left untreated.

contacts really DON'T have an effect on it. (if they did then how is it i'm allowed to wear contacts when i HAVE glaucoma). perhaps if you abused the contacts and didn't take care of them properly but otherwise there's no increased risk.

everyone gets blood shot eyes if you swim in chlorine duh.

with your glasses ON is your vision blurry? if so then you probably just need a stronger prescription. if its only when you NOT wearing your glasses then thats just cuz you have poor vision. (the fact that you have glasses really has nothing to do with glaucoma).

everyones eyes get sore ONCE IN A WHILE. if you had glaucoma they'd be in pain nearly all the time until you got treatment.

if you're sooooo scared that you're crying then why are you on Y/A and not running in to tell your parents.

it doesn't hurt to go see your eye dr for a check up to ease your mind but like i said it doesn't sound like you have glaucoma at all.

Do you have glaucoma?

i think you're overly worried about this.
i'm 25 and i've had glaucoma since i was 11.
my glaucoma was caused by trauma to my eyes due to eye surgery for other eye related problems.
i use cosopt eye drops twic per day in my right eye and i had surgery on my left eye to insert a tiny tube to help the fluid drain properly.
you really don't have to change anything about your lifestyle.
i go to my eye dr every few months to check my eye pressure and make sure everything looks ok.
my eyes do occasionally hurt but ibuprofen takes care of that and if i'm owrried that my pressure may be up i just make an appointment for it to be checked.
this really isn't as big of a deal as you would think.

What is it like to have glaucoma from a young age?

Several years ago I become fascinated by the posts of a young man who had been diagnosed with glaucoma, and had already experienced some visual field changes.  He was unusually inquisitive and proactive, and took some usual steps.  These included obtaining a tonometer that allowed him to measure his own pressure, and seeing several doctors to allow him to compare opinions and further educate himself.  He discovered that his intraocular pressures varied widely throughout the day, and began to sort out which sort of activities raised or lowered them.  This led to a number of accomplishments that I consider impressive.  He eventually was able to control his intraocular pressure without medication.  And his posts attracted a number of others, which became the very vibrant FitEyes.com community.  I strongly recommend you investigate this site both for the informational database and for the encouraging idea that one perhaps does have more options and more personal control than one's very well-trained optometrist or ophthalmologist may communicate.  As a caution:  this is a condition that must be taken very seriously, and in any case must be monitored closely.

Are these symptoms of glaucoma?

Serene E is WRONG. While glaucoma is PRIMARILY a disease that occurs at later ages, it most certainly can and DOES happen in younger people, even children. I DESPISE people who come on here and spout out an answer when they do not know what they are talking about.

As for you problems, I agree with Footprintz, none of your symptoms sound like glaucoma. (By the way, I have struggled with glaucoma for 12 years now, it started when I was 49). Being highly nearsighted is one risk factor for the development of glaucoma, so it is certainly something that you need to keep in mind, but it is very, very unlikely that it will ever be a problem until you are much older, and maybe not even then. I have had 5 surgeries on my eyes due to glaucoma, and will be having yet another in late October. I have lost nearly all vision in my right eye, and am at about 23 degrees of field vision in my left eye as well as only 20/100 acuity on a good day. I have done tons of research about this disease and it is not unexpected that this would happen to me, as my Father was almost blind with it when he died, and he died younger than I am now.

I know it sounds harsh, but you do need to stop being so absurdly afraid of a good eye exam. Good grief, I have even had numerous "needling" procedures done in office. That is when a local anesthetic is placed on the eye and the doctor literally has to stick a needle into your eye to try to break up scar tissue and relieve pressure after surgery. So if I can sit and take that, you can certainly have a normal eye exam and not act like a 4 year old kid. Sorry, but you need some "tough love" so you can start caring for your eyes properly, now and in the future.

This is a photo of my eye after the 3rd surgery on my right eye. Do you want this to happen to you? Man up and get some proper eye tests done!

I have glaucoma and may go blind later in life; I'm 57. What preparations should I make? What things should I see?

A young lady I know was going blind from glaucoma. After being diagnosed with glaucoma in 2007, her visual field shrank by approximately 10% per year and her visual acuity dropped as well. By May of 2015, her visual field was down to only 37%: even a simple task like pouring water into a cup became very challenging because she had to move her head back and forth just to see where the cup was. After taking a remarkable stem cell stimulant for a few months, her visual field was back to 60%. Perhaps this can help you too. There are three or four sleazy attack websites that spread FUD (fear, uncertainty & doubt) regarding AFA. They rely on innuendo, half-truths, character assassination and sheer speculation to make readers very afraid of stem cell stimulants. After you have checked things out for yourself, you will be better equipped to recognize FUD.Glaucoma is not a death sentence. Your health is in your own hands.
