I Think I May Have Eaten Some Black Mold On My Cilantro

Do you think that the herb, Thyme, tastes a lot like mildew or mold?

Not that I have tasted mold but I imagine it tastes a lot like Thyme. Like a moldy pine needle. It is not that my thyme is old, It is fresh dried thyme.

Is it just me?

Cilantro: Good for Parakeets?

Cilantro is a healthy food for all pet birds, including parakeets. A few fresh leaves of cilantro a day will help keep your parakeet in good health. Cilantro is low in fat and cholesterol. Cilantro is a good source of vitamin K, Thiamin, Zinc, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, phosphorous, potassium, and magnesium.

What cant and green cheek conure eat?

Things they CAN'T eat: Avacado, onion, catnip, fruit pits and seeds, anything with mold, dried fruits (unless specifically for birds).


Things they CAN eat:

Vegetables: Should be washed and can be searved steamed, baked, or boiled. Frozen vegetables are good as well. Make sure they are near room temperature when you give them to your bird.

Alfalfa sprouts, artichokes, arugula, asparagus, baby corn, bamboo shoots,beans- cooked (pinto, kidney, navy, garbanzo, mung, butter, haricot, adzuki, soy), beans (pole, wax, green, lima), beets, bok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cayenne, celery (feed only once in a while), chard, chayote, chicory, chickweed, cilantro, collard greens, corn on the cob, comfrey, cucumbers, dandelion greens, eggplant (cooked, mature ripe pods only), endive, garlic (very good!), ginger root, indian corn, jicama, kale, kohrabi, leeks, lettuce (feed in moderation), mushrooms, mustard greens, okra, parsley, peas (green, sugar snap, peas in the pod), peppers (red, green, yellow, jalapeno, chili), potatoes (white, red, new, cooked), pumpkin, radishes (feed sparingly), spinach (feed in moderation), squash, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, turnip greens, yams, zucchini.

Fruits: Wash and remove any seeds. If fruit has a pit, do not give the pit or fruit near the pit.

Apple, apricot, banana (washed then peeled), berries (strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, cranberry), cactus fruit, chermoya, cherries (no pit), coconut, coquitos, currants, dates, figs, grapes, grapefruit, guavas, kiwis, kumquats, leechees, lemons, mangoes (very good!), melons- But rinds are TOXIC) watermelon, honeydew, crenshaw, cantaloupe), nectarines (no seeds), oranges, papaya, passion fruit, peaches (no pit), pears (no seeds), pineapple, plantains, plums (no pit), pomegranate, raisins, starfruit, tangerines.

Moldy spaghetti sauce alright to eat?

Tomatoes are one of those things where even the smallest spot of mold is a no-questions-asked indicator that the whole lot is spoiled. Fresh or cooked, it doesn't matter. The cell structure and acidity level of tomatoes indicates that any sign of spoilage or mold and the fruit or the sauce should be completely and totally pitched. Better safe than sorry

Why do I taste mold in food that seems fine to other people? Is there some explanation other than my simply being more sensitive to mold?

If you find it let me know. Several times in my 30 years I've set down a glass of water at a friend's place and said they should check their ice tray. Once as an intern I was given ice cream cake that had that funk smell and taste to it. In all cases I've been the only one to notice via smell and taste, but I've yet to be wrong when the sense was visually investigated . Currently living in a moldy house(confirmed by expert) im the only one of 3 that smells it . I suspect it's genetic but have yet to find evidence specific to mold and smell.

How does Black Fungus taste?

Black fungus you found is those dried ones. You have to soak them in water and it will triple in size when it's hydrated. You have to remove the hard short stem in the center then you cut into strip. It's good to add to salad, stir fry in vegetarian dish with cabbage, carrots and mushroom. Even use as filling in spring rolls to give a crunchy texture to the dish. It has no taste and no smell. It has many health benefits like lowering your lipids ( cholesterol, triglyceride ) even gout if you brew the fungus with red dates. Try it don't let the word fungus scare you. Besides it has a crunch to it there is no smell or taste but all goodness to your health

What fruits and vegetables can canaries eat?

The wonderful thing about canaries is that the little guys will eat just about anything that doesn't move faster than they do. They aren't picky at all like parrots.

Greens: Kale, Bok choy, spinach, chard, mustard greens, radish, carrot tops, beet tops, dandelion greens (make sure they haven't been sprayed or collected near a roadway) and just about any other leafy green veggie.

Veggies: Carrots, peas, zucchini, corn, squash, radishes, bell pepper, broccoli, green beans, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, chili peppers.

Grains: Steamed rice (white, brown, wild) cooked pasta, whole wheat and multi-grain bread, popcorn (no butter), bran muffins, polenta, grits, cous cous, sprouted seeds and grains (quinoa, amaranth, millet, teff, kamut, spelt), oatmeal, all natural cereal.

Proteins: Raw sunflower seed (small amounts), chicken, eggs, fish, small amounts of hard cheese such as Jack and cheddar, tofu, cooked beans (lentil, kidney, black, garbonzo, navy, white).

Fruit: Apples (seeds removed), peaches, bananas, melons, mango, pomegranate, oranges, papaya, strawberries, plums, pears, berries, nectarines, cherries. (Please remove all pits from fruit.)

Please don't feed your birds salty foods, processed sugar, avocado, rhubarb, alcohol, greasy foods, caffeine, tomato leaves & stems, eggplant leaves, dried beans (always cook or fully sprout first), chocolate, apple seeds, fruit pits, tobacco. Feed onions or garlic in very small amounts only.
