I Think I May Have Encountered A Virus

What is the strangest computer virus you've ever encountered?

“Zip Bomb virus” That’s a real thing.A friend gave it to me, and he explained to me what that virus was. He told me never to use it in my own PC. And I knew the consequences.But….I was I. I couldn’t resist opening the file. I thought my friend was was pulling my legs, and no such thing existed. But it brought catastrophic results as soon as I opened the file.A Zip Bomb Virus is something that is a highly compressed file. Now these files might be anything, ranging from a notepad file to an executable file. The zip my friend gave me, was just 67 MB. But the contents inside were more than a terrabyte (hard to believe). There were more than thousands of file inside, and once I opened the zip file, my PC’s screen froze because the available memory could not process such large data. I didn’t even have to unzip anything, just opening it did the job. I forced restarted my PC, and the windows would not boot, giving an error message that the memory was not enough.

Windows defender encountered an error 0x80070424?

Think I have a virus. My Windows Defender is gone and when I try to turn it on, I get the message in my Question header. I also can't turn on my Firewall. Can anyone help? My tech knowledge is VERY low, so please describe as if you were speaking to a 6 year old. :-)

I think my computer has a virus and i want to know how to fix the problem.?

this is what I do for my clients - been posted here 100 times

These directions r for W7. modify for XP or Vista RE running a program.
1. Boot to safe mode with networking (hit F8 repeatedly while booting till safe mode menu appears) - if that option isn't available u have a real problem. Time for clean install.
2. Delete everything in all ur temp folders and recycle bin - u can dnld and run ATFCLEANER - it makes life easier.
3. Go to START, type MSCONFIG and set it for diagnostic mode startup.
4. Open a browser - if it does not connect try unchecking the proxy setting under tools - internet options - connections - advanced = if u can't u will have to dnld MBAM someplace else and load to computer and install. -- also dnload VipreRescue (VR) - google to find dnld site.
5. Run both MBAM and VR in deep scan mode. VR defaults to that (VR must finish otherwise nothing will be removed/fixed)
6. Go to START, enter CMD, rt clk CMD.EXE in list and clk Run as administrator. Type SFC /SCANNOW. Let finish.
7. Reboot and pray.
8. If it doesn't boot it is time for a clean install. The virus hosed a system file and the scan could not clean it and deleted it and SFC could not fix it. - end of story.
9. If it boots ok, go back to msconfig and recheck everything in services and startup that does not look strange-like random lettered files. U can just chk NORMAL startup, but if u chk them all and get an error about a file that could not be run, it is because the file was a virus and was deleted.
10. Save these instructions - u will need it again.

Why is it so difficult to cure viruses? If you find a cure for one, cant that be the basis of an overall cure

We may be able to. There is a noval process known as RNAi.

Using RNAi in mice we have been able to destroy the genome of HIV and Hepatitus C viruses. This is amazing. Once we figured out a way to get it into a persons infected cells, we may well be able to cure a virus infection. It'll take many yearsn though, but watch this space.

The futures bright, the futures RNAi

How do you detect a virus in .png files?

there is no virus that can hide himself (or herself) in png format, sure you can store data in some portions of the png which -the data- is encoded in zip compression scheme, but storing a full functional virus is so impossible.I read lately and old post about name spoofing in winrar archiver which helps in this, meaning running an exe file while thinking it is a png file.another note: windows depends on file extension to determine the file type, in order not to be fooled ,the user could enable revealing the file extension in windows explorer so that the user can see that:file.pngin real is: file.png.exefinally:there is a possibility that someone could use a malicious png file that may contain some shell code so that this shell code can be run in the context of a vulnerable program.me

Troj_Generic.DIT Virus? False Positive?

Some anti-malware software may consider any third-party software which deals with keystrokes as potentially dangerous, so in this sense it may be a false positive. On the other hand, one of KeyScrambler's files may have become infected. Try uploading the file suspected of containing the trojan to http://www.virustotal.com/. This site will scan the file with numerous reputable anti-malware programs. If it comes back as only being detected by a small percentage of the programs, you can safely assume it is a false positive, if not, it may well be infected with a trojan.

Does Deviantart have viruses?

Deviantart used to be safe, but apparently a lot of people are getting viruses from it now!! I can't say for certain if it's from deviantart. It may be the advertisements on it. You definitely got the virus from DA (or the advertisements on it) i'm also a member of deviantart and when I looked at a deviation, everything closed out and I got the 'XP Security 2010' virus!! I've been avoiding the site, but I went on a couple weeks ago again and it gave me a trojan horse! there's definitely something wrong with deviantart!! I trusted that site but now I wouldn't recommend going on it at all! :(
