I Think I Was Unfairly Fired From Temp Agency

Age requirements for work at a Temp Agency?

Usually, you have to be a High School graduate, and know how to do the job they're advertising. Like, computer experience, bookkeeping, office work or sales experience and so forth. The agency will know all the work laws of your state or you can go into your state's Labor laws on line & check yourself.

Temp agencies usually look for experience & references because they are liable for your work and for you ( if you stole something, destroyed something) because their reputation is on line.

They get 1/3rd of the hourly wage for sending you to the job; if you want more money you will be better off getting the job yourself.

I've worked many years as a temp before and after my longtime jobs.

Can a temp agency fire you and not give you the reason way?

you worked for the agency and you still do unless the agency fired you....

your current assignment is over, the company that uses the temp agency makes that decision, it could be that they did not like your job performance or it could be they just don't need the agencies help any longer but why the assignment is over is IRRELEVANT because you don't work for the company you work for the agency.....

there is nothing "fishy" here, it is the company that contracts with the temp agency who decides when the assignment is over, the temp agency has a contract with the company and you have no right to talk to the company and they will NOT talk to you because you were NOT an employee....

if you call this company and they complain to the agency about you which they most likely will do the agency will almost certainly fire you and their reason will be insubordination, and violation of the agencies policies and procedures....

Have you ever been unfairly fired?

Yes. When I was young I worked on Saturdays in a video rental shop. My job was to take the empty cases they brought up, take them into the store room and return with the generic case that contained the video, take the money and say thankyou. Pretty stressful stuff. It was a family run business and I was the only real outsider. I worked with several friends of the owner who all seemed to be friendly to me on the surface but I was never really made to feel part of the team. Still, I turned up every Saturday afternoon and earned a few pounds that I would save up for going out with friends.I worked there for about six months. It all seemed to be okay then walked in one day to be told by one of the friends that I was fired. For a mid teens person who had never put a foot wrong and always played the party line, this was absolutely crushing. They wouldn't give me a reason at first but the owner who wasn't normally there was in the back. He called me into his tiny office and said that there had been a complaint from one of the other people that I had been stealing videos. I only really worked with one person so it was obvious where it had come from. I would never have DREAMED of doing this. At any point. so I stood there and begged him to believe I hadn't done this. He wasn't remotely interested in listening to me and just asked me to leave.I felt crushed. Absolutely crushed and empty. To be fired is horrendous. To be accused of something like this was beyond awful. I had to do the walk of shame home wondering what was going to happen. How was I going to live this down, was I going to have this follow me around forever. Why had this happened to me??I spoke to my parents who (thankfully) listened and believed me. My Dad went to speak to the boss to try and find out what was going on to see the daughter of my supposed accuser working in my place. It didn't take long to figure out what had happened and why. The father on seeing my Dad made a quick exit out of the back door.Nowadays things would have been taken further but at the time it was a huge lesson for me of trusting people and that when the chips were down, my parents would be there for me.I wasn't upset when the shop closed a couple of years later.

I got fired working through a staffing agency as a temp, but the same place called to hire me directly, will they still hire me?

I agree with Chris. Why would an agency fire you if you were in good standing with the client?I will add however, that most staffing relationships have a clause in their contracts regarding their customers hiring their staff - it may be in the form of a direct buy out, or finishing an assignment. If the client had a contract with your agency and disregarded that clause, I would spend some time thinking about the ethics involved. If they were willing to disregard the contract with the agency, what would stop them from being underhanded with their employees. Ethical behavior is not usually situation based, it is usually culture based.

How to get your job back after getting fired?

i got fired from a target store in illinois in october of 09. they fired me for giving things away. i kept my mouth shut and walked out respectfully. i till this day cannot get a job, and that's because of my past. a few hours after i got fired, i called security up to see what was it i was giving away, because i was working in the pizza hut express at the time. he gave me an example of when i gave a girl a toy(which was no longer in our system, and had no numbers), and of a time where i let a cart attendant take a pop(because nobody wanted to give him a drink on a hot day). MOST of the workers were doing the same things i was doing. every one was giving out hook ups, starbucks, pizza hut, cashiers, even guest service was. at target i was doing a lot of work. i worked in electronics, sales floor, market, clothes, operator, carts, pizza hut, cashier, guest service, flow team, and even trained in back room. from them i have so much experience, but cant get a job. what really bugs me is that after i got fired, security warned one of my guys about how he caught him giving someone a hook up, and my friend never got in trouble. i was also being bullied at that place by one of my team leads. a few months later i was at another target and the security there used to work at my target, he told me that if i would've never called security that day, and "admit" to giving stuff for free, then i would've got my job back. i've been out of work for almost a year and a half. i've applied at about 50 places since then, i even went to a temp agency and they only had me work 2 days. is it possible to get my job back? i heard that you can get paid for all the time you weren't working, is that true too? i'm a full time college student, i have no job. i have to depend on my parents for everything. i just want my job back.

How long after someone is fired can they be rehired at the same place?

That depends on the company and the reason for being fired. Companies may have explicit policies for re-hiring terminated employees or it may be a subjective process. Either way there’s no guarantee that an employer will take an employee back after any amount of time has passed. If the reason for termination was due to downsizing or layoff then a former employee might have a decent chance of getting rehired when the company is in better financial shape. However, the timeline for that is unpredictable. In fact the company may never get back on its feet.If the employee was fired for performance reasons then I’d expect the employee would have to demonstrate how they’ve changed since being terminated. Was there some personal situation that has since been remedied? Has the employee received additional training or education? Have they demonstrated a strong record of employment at another company? A company is less likely to rehire a poor performer than someone they had to let go because of downsizing. Still, if the employee has demonstrated some form of progress they might take them back. How long it would take to get rehired would depend largely on how long it takes the employee to demonstrate a significant change in circumstances. If the termination occurred due to criminal activity, an ethical lapse or because of intentional actions that brought serious harm to the company then the most likely answer is “never.”

I got fired today from a temp job, I just feel like giving up?

I was unemployed for two months, I submitted a ton of resumes. I am a former assistant supervisor at a major corporation. I interviewed at a few jobs, the only calls back I got were from higher level jobs. I got desperate and registered with a temp agency and they sent me on one interview, took my Lead title off my resume and told me how to answer the questions. I was way overqualified for this job. I got hired, I busted my BUTT for this job. Never have I had so much work expected of me, They barely provided training and I had very high numbers to meet everyday that seemed INSANE. I was advised by the temp agency that the company has a very high turnover rate and people quit the same day or get fired. The supervisor threatened to fire people everyday. I worked through my breaks and lunch to meet my numbers. Coworkers were not allowed to speak to each other even if it was work related. She didn't give me a reason why she fired me just told me they didn't need me anymore. I feel like a POS.

Temp agencies should be outlawed?

You cant go through the employer to get a direct job any more. People say temp agencies find you the job. I dont think so because living in michigan if a company wants to find workers its not that hard. I have been working at pinnacle food corporation for 3 full years. My job required me to get an associates degree to perform the tasks of the job. I have a union rep and they protect me from my employers misconduct. If we didnt have unions the company could fire us because they wanted to. When I get layed off my company has to pay unemployment benefits. I started off a 17 a hour and benefits. My company makes millions a day. Now in order to get my job you have to go through a temp agency and they require the same experience as i got. My bestfriend has been looking for a job for a very long time so she went through a temp service. She only makes 7.65 a hour a gets no benefits and no over time. She is a great worker but my supervisors talk to her like she is a not a person. She cant go to HR and write a grievance like I can. When they get to their 90 day my company let them go. My question is where is the laws and unions at now a days. I feel like temp agencies is another form of slave trade.

How did you handle getting fired/terminated from your job?

Takes me back to the time of the dotcom crash. I did not handle my termination well. I was already under experienced, and most contracting companies and recruitment agencies either wanted programmers with a masters degree or 3 years experience. And I had neither. It took me a while to realise that if I just kept applying without doing anything about my experience or studies, I would get nowhere. So I enrolled for a post graduation in IT through distance education and concentrated only on my studies. I needed to do really well because I had finished my bachelors with average marks. I did not apply until I came close to finishing the first year of my studies.I was called for an interview at the first company I applied, and they hired me on the spot. I was honest with them about my experience (I did not fake extra years) and about my ongoing studies. When I think about it, I am glad I decided to study instead of moping about my failures. Getting bogged down by failures is something you must avoid. Instead spend time on learning new technologies, or do that course related to your work which can get you a job.And always believe in yourself. Success comes to those who try, and do not give up.
