Losing weight after wisdom teeth extraction? ?

It's been 5 days since my wisdom teeth extraction. I've lost 5 pounds so far. I can't workout but before I had them taken out I worked out 6 days a week. I seem to be losing more weight when I had them taken out. Is this normal?

Any weight-gaining suggestions for OTTB?

When I get a horse off the track and they are underweight I feed them beet pulp, 1/2-1 lb before soaking, Purina Senior, 3-4 lbs, rice bran, 2 cups, and 1 cup of calf manna. I've also had luck keeping weight on with Purina Strategy (professional formula). If I need to add anything supplement wise I add vegetable oil, never had much luck with weight supplements myself. I would recommend the pro-bios but get it in granules or powder instead, the container lasts also longer and is much cheaper. Another thing you might consider is Red Cell. It's worked wonders for me in the past, however, it does make some horses really hot.

For his feet just feed him a straight biotin supplement. They're cheaper than Farriers Formula for example and do the same thing. Here's the one I feed.

In the mean time while you wait for his feet to grow out I'd suggest you get some Keretex and paint it on the lower half of his hoof wall every day. It really makes a huge difference. I had one like yours where the farrier was on speed dial until I started using this.

The senior, beet pulp, calf manna, and rice bran I use to put the weight on and switch to Strategy when they get where I want them to maintain that weight, sometimes adding a little oats; sometimes I keep them on some senior but usually I can go to just Strategy. I have used Rainmaker but it doesn't so much harden them as add moisture back to really dry feet. It can make weak hooves crumbly. I feed a scoop, it comes with, of the Pro-bios everyday. Just a little preventative maintenance.

The recommended daily dose is one scoop but you can up it to 2 or 3 in high stress situations; if you know he's going into one such as moving to a new barn up it a few days in advance. If he is colicing Pro-bios won't help much if at all. The best thing to do in that case is call your vet for a dose of Banamine and lunge him till you have bowel movements then restrict him to water for 12 hours. The Pro-bios help keep everything moving through easily and regularly, and I feel they help ulcers if you feed then long enough but I have no proof :P, which helps prevent colic but it won't do anything if they are.

HOW to gain WEIGHT evenly????? HEALTH problems?

If you want or need to gain weight, do it the healthy way — which is not about bellying up to an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Calories Count, But So Do Nutrients

Focus on healthy foods to gain weight, because even though you have more leeway with calories, good nutrition still rules.
“Weight gain requires eating calorie-rich but also nutrient-rich foods — not just high-calorie foods with lots of fat, sugar, or empty calories,” says Alice Bender, RD, nutrition communications manager for the American Institute for Cancer Research.

The goal is to choose foods that are packed with vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and calories so each bite is loaded with good nutrition.

“Start with nutritious foods and then wherever you can, enrich the foods with additional ingredients like yogurt, fruit, nuts, and healthy fats,” Escott-Stump says.

Eat Often to Gain Weight

Regardless of why you want to gain weight, eating meals or substantial snacks (think mini-meals) more often is the way to pack more calories into the day.

“Try to eat six times a day, with each meal (or at least three of them) containing protein, starch, vegetable[s], and fat,” says sports nutritionist and Georgia State University professor emeritus Christine Rosenbloom, PhD, RD.

A sample meal would include a turkey sandwich on whole-grain bread with mayonnaise and tomatoes and a fruit smoothie.

healthy diet!can't live with it,can't live without it!you have to stop eating food that contains fats, such as junk food, pork, sweets, etc.potatoes contain starch which retains water so they are out of the question.salt, spices, sugar are completely forbidden!they have the same effect as starch!you can replace sugar with sweetener and normal salt with sea salt.fruits!you can have all you want!except bananas, grapes and so on.TIP:let's say,one day you just can't help yourself from eating a good wealthy meal, you don't have to feel your stomach full.after ten minutes,it will be too busy digesting what you have just ate so you wont feel hungry:)

How much weight did you lose on your water fast?

I'm 5"5.5 started off at 136 lbs and water fasted for about four days and got down to 123 lbs. I was so overwhelmed by it all (I had fainted during day 4). I was able to get down to about 118 by recovering and working out. Right now, however, I've gained some weight back. I am not 123 or 118 anymore, I'm 128 lbs but that's because I eat a looooot of junk food now. I am going on a water fast again (starting tom) for a week. Hopefully, this time, I'll prepare for the after fast regiment of eating little by little and not attacking a buffet!! I like the feeling of hunger, its not so much on the weight but you feel something spiritual after :-)
