Cat ate an earplug, I think.. and is sick. Please help!?

Hi,

My ferret ate an earplug about 6 months ago. I had to have surgery done on her. The theory is animals like foam things because they can sink their teeth into the foam and it is similar to meat. The only thing I can suggest short of bringing him to the vets is giving him an oily substance, the pet store should have a product called "ferretone" it's a vitamin supplement for animals, mostly ferrets, but my cat and ferret eat the same thing and I've fed it to may cat before so don't worry about giving it to him. Chances are, the slickness of it will dislodge it from his intestines. If he is getting some of it (the earplug) up, then it may not be totally into his intestines yet, but that's where it is headed. The first thing the vet will do after giving him a physical assessment is give him a product called berium which will make his innards glow when they take an x-ray of his intestines, to determine if he has a blockage. The berium also has a slickness to it and often animals will expell the foreign body at this time, so you may end up saving yourself a bit of money like that (by using ferretone). There is a fine line between how far you can wait though, I would try what I said first, and if that doesn't work, bring him in the morning. I paid about $2000 when all was said and done in Canada. Don' t leave any foam rubber lying around after this ordeal is over! Good Luck.

What should I do if my cat is very sick?

I'm not understanding how there is no veterinary clinic near you? It's not possible to diagnose an illness on here. The cat needs to be brought to a vet immediately or a shelter if that is not possible. This could be anything from a treatable problem to a more severe illness. There are online veterinarians that, for a fee, will help you try to diagnose an illness. However that money is better spent at a veterinarian. Ps. Probably not the best idea to have pets if there is no veterinary hospital near you. Unless this is a feral colony you're caring for? Too much missing info. Please get to a vet or shelter right away.

My cat is sick and peed himself, what does this mean?

Hello, I have an 8 year old male persian, he is an indoor cat that got out while i was carrying groceries. when i finally found him 4 days later someone had taken him to the humane society. I got him home and within 24 hours he was couging and had a runny nose and eyes. i took him to the vet and the gave him fluids and antibiotics. The problems i am having now is that, being a persian i dont know what to do to help him breath. I wake up 3-4 times a night to wipe his eyes and nose and run a hot shower to steam up the bathroom but nothing helps, also this morning i went in the bathroom (where he likes to sleep in a basket) and he got up and there was pee all over the floor. What could be the reason he has peed himself? and what else can i do about helping him to breath? (i have also bought Little Noses Decongestant per suggestion of vet, but not much help)
