I Think My Dvd Disc Stop Working Should I Buy Another Dvd Movie

Should I rebuy my dvds as blu-rays? Or am I wasting my money?

I got a blu-ray player a few months ago, and have since been replacing a lot of my DVDs on blu-ray. I started by only replacing my absolute favorite movies, but I've been so satisfied with the experience you get from the upgraded quality, that I've started replacing most of my movies.

You should definitely start by replacing the films you really love, and if you feel the difference, replace more. I still keep some movies on DVD, but for the big blockbuster movies I have, blu-ray just improves the experience too much.

A waste of money, it is not.

What causes a DVD to stop working? And is it reparable?

All data disappears over time, even on DVD's and CD's. It's possible that you just happened to lose one of the header blocks that tells the player where everything is -- so it won't work now.

While many people quote 100 years for digital data retention, that is only in archival instances -- perfect temperature and humidity that meets the media specs. Most people don't have that for their media collection, so errors increase over time, due to expansion and contraction from the temperature and humidity changes.

The data is encoded with many cross-checks, so many errors are corrected by the players, but when it finally gets to be too many, that's the end of that disk. Remember, too, that there is no guarantee that your original disk was error-free. It could have started with many errors in that section of the disk, but just few enough to play. So, after a whole lot less than 100 years, you finally got enough errors for it to die.

If it were company data that was needed, you could recover the data for several hundred dollars, but it's cheaper for you to just get a new DVD.

It will happen to everyone's media collections, over time. You can't repair it, so you'll just have to replace it. Think of it as a good excuse to get an HD version and new player...

Should I stop buying DVD's?

I don't see DVDs becoming completely obsolete in the next few years, but if a motion picture is available on Blu-Ray as well as DVD, you will get much better resolution and two extra audio channels from the Blu-Ray. Remember, the film on which the motion picture was originally recorded theoretically has infinite resolution, and as such can resolve thousands of lines. Blu-Ray better preserves this quality in digital format by using 1080 lines, whereas DVD uses only 480.

But your Blu-Ray player will still be able to play your DVDs. They're both optical media, so it's not like there will be some incompatibility as there is between VHS (magnetic media) and DVD (optical media).

The twilight DVD I bought at Target last night isn't working...?

I bought the three-disc edition of Twilight Target last night. The special features disc works, but the actual movie cannot be read by my computer OR my DVD player. I've used the DVD player and my computer for movies before. What should I do?

Heres the link to the DVD:

Why do people still buy DVDs?

I recently bought a Blu-ray player, and I will provide the answer for why people still buy DVDs, because someone who has bought DVDs for a long time, amidst Blu-ray becoming popular, I have an idea for why folks still buy DVDs.People don’t understand what Blu-ray has to offer. You note the better image and audio quality, and that is true, but the DVD buyers don’t understand this. For them, it is just a more expensive disc of the same movie. Put yourself in their world, and ask yourself, What is the point of buying more expensive discs, when I could buy the same thing for cheaper? That leads us to price. I live in Singapore, and here, 3D Blu-rays sell for SG$50, and 2D Blu-rays sell for SG$40. A newly released DVD sell for SG$25, and other DVDs sell for SG$20. Why would spend that much money on something that they think has nothing to offer more than a DVD. I know what it has to offer, and I will buy a Blu-ray, but not someone who doesn’t know what it has to offer. Those are two co-related reasons for why people buy DVDs over Blu-rays.As for DVDs over streaming, some people love the tangible part of owning a movie, myself included. I love to look at the case, analyze every detail of the case and the disc(s). That is why I will put streaming under a physical disc. That is why in 2016, I upgraded to Blu-ray, knowing that perhaps streaming will take over optical disc, just like the optical disc took over VHS.Still, more important than the tangible part of owning a movie is actually watching the movie. I do stream online sometimes, but I absolutely hate the buffering which you never experience on optical disc. Plus, I never feel like I own it like I would feel with owning the Blu-ray or DVD. That can be a good thing at times, because there are some movies you don’t want to own, but you just want to watch. Plus, I prefer watching my movies on TV over my laptop. As for Netflix, I will never care about Netflix. It is far more convenient to buy a disc, put it in a player, and watch, than paying bills to Netflix. I would like to use Amazon Video, but it isn’t available to use here, so I stick to optical discs. As for torrenting, the answer to that is simple- it is illegal. So that is my answer, and I hope that this helps.

How do you fix a laptop that won't play DVDs?

There are many possibilities that it's not playing dvd's.First of all, the question is, does it really have the hardware do play dvd??All laptops in these days are dvd supported. If your laptop is old (very old) then it must be that it would play only cd's and not dvd's.If the laptop isn't that old and has the hardware to play dvd's then there must be something wrong with drivers.Update the drivers by right clicking the "my pc"/" my computer" -> manage -> device manager -> then look for something like dvd-cd controllar or something like that. Selsct it and go to the properties. There's an option to update the drivers. If drivers are already up to date then uninstall them and install them again.

Is it a myth or fact that the DVD drive for most of the laptops stops working after a few months?

It usually depends on the brand of the drive - when I first bought my laptop about 15 years ago now (yes I’m actually typing this on a 15 year old laptop!) the original LiteOn drive only lasted a few months. I swapped it for a Panasonic/Matsushita drive which lasted for years (it’s only recently given up).Matsushita drives always seemed to be about the best ones for longevity, although most laptop manufacturers tended to fit LiteOn. I find it quite strange though as LiteOn’s optical drive division is a joint venture with Philips (PLDS) and as Philips were the ones who developed the first optical drive you’d think they’d know how to make them properly. Also sometimes there are other effects that can stop CD drives from working - most of the time failure is due to a lens fault in some way. If you smoke near the drive smoke dust can get on the lens and clog it, also if the drive is in a dusty environment that can get on the lens, using CD lens cleaners with brushes on it can sometimes damage the lens (they are designed to clean the lens but it’s like trying to clean your windows with a scrubbing brush!), the best way to clean a lens on a drive is to get some cotton wool buds and spray a bit of isopropyl alcohol - you can get it from most electronic shops (Maplin), also tatoo parlours sell it, and some chemists - note it’s not the same as drinking alcohol so do not attempt to drink it! then use that to clean the laser in a circular motion - the cotton wool bud isn’t as harsh as the brushes on the cd cleaner cd’s (the little bottle of liquid you get in the CD cleaners is also isopropyl alcohol)

Can I watch a DVD on my CD/RW laptop?

No. The CD will not read a DVD disk.

Can I watch pvd discs on my DVD player?

No, PVDs are completely incompatible with CDs and DVDs. It's a proprietary disc that only plays on VideoNow players. The main problem is the fact that "video data is stored on the left audio channel with mono audio on the right channel." The video is where the DVD player expects audio to be, so you would likely get a mix of noise, sound, and no picture if it were to play at all.
