I Think My Puppy Is Sick . Bad Poop.

HELP. I think my puppy ate his own poop..?

I didn't really see him actually do it, but his mouth smelled like poo, as well as his butt. :(
I tried Forbid before, it worked for a while, but obviously, not anymore.

Do you think it's because he's not eating enough food? He's 10 week old shih tzu. I feed him 1/4 cup of his Innova puppy food a day. 1/8 in the morning and 1/8 at night (I feed him twice a day). He finishes ALL his food each time, and walks around like he's still REALLY hungry. He always sniffs and try to eat anything (that's why I supervise him when he's not inside his pen.

Please help, will he get sick?

Can being around the smell or puppy urine or poop be bad while being pregnant?

It's normal to feel upset over the dog. The smell of the dog mess won't hurt you, but you should definitely avoid touching it as it could carry infections that are dangerous to your baby.

The dog needs discipline if it's jumping on your stomach. If it hurts enough to make you cry I would definitely say that something needs to be done. Also, the conditions the dog is being kept in are unfair for both you and baby, and the dog. In this case, I think it would be best for everyone to have the dog re-homed. You should discuss this with your partner, explain that you're in uncomfortable and unhygienic conditions, and that the dog probably isn't happy being stuck in your room with poop and pee on the floor either.

If your fiancee insists on keeping the animal, there are a number of things you can do to make yourself safer:
1) get the dog trained properly, including toilet training.
2) possibly find someone else for the dog to stay with for a short time while it gets trained.

I know it sounds terribly harsh, but if he still chooses the dog over you, do you really want him involved in yours and your baby's life? If the father of your child can't understand that you have needs and requirements as a pregnant women, then what kind of understanding of the child's needs is he going to have? These are things you need to sit down and talk about with your fiancee, and make decisions on.

To him, if you show him what people have written:
If you're concerned about the welfare of the dog, I can completely respect that as a pet-owner. There are a number of no-kill shelters available in most areas where a dog can be dropped off and re-homed without the worry of it being put to sleep if it can't find a home. Most shelters have careful screening procedures to make sure that the dog will go to a good home. It's really important that your fiancee feels safe while she is carrying the baby, though, and at the moment that really doesn't seem to be the case.

Please talk this out? I would hate to think a couple would break up over a dog and possibly put their child at risk of not having a happy and stable family environment to grow up in. Try to do the best thing for everyone :)

Can my dog get sick from holding his poop?

I'm not really sure. I think he might make himself constipated, but again, I don't know. Yes, encourage him to poop on the floor on an old towel or something. Just pray he doesn't make a habit of it.

Help! My puppy is sick! bloody stool...?

We got Maggie, a seven week old blue heeler mix, nine days ago. She is a very active little puppy, but this morning she began having diarrhea. It seems to have a mucus-like texture, and occasionally a drop or two of blood. Also, i had been looking at her stool to make sure she didn't have worms, and ever since she started to diarrhea, i have found worms when they weren't present before (that i could see). I don't believe that she has parvo, because she still has an appetite, and about the same amount of energy. I am thinking it is colitis. Does anyone have any experience with colitis, and does it sound like this may be a case of it?

We are taking her to the vet first thing in the morning for her first round of shots, as well as her second worming.

Will my dog get sick after eating bird poop?

My German Shepherd loves to eat bird poop. The lake we go to is always littered with duck crap and she goes to town like a fat kid at a buffet. The vet said that I can't stop her and that as long as she has her parvo shot she will not get sick.

We ended up taking her to a trainer for another problem and the trainer helped me control her crap eating. She still does it but not as much. When she is going for the poop, I try to distract her with a ball or a frisbee and then move away from the poop but if she is going to eat it, there is nothing I can do.

Can a dog get sick from smelling another dogs poop?

Hi there.. first of all feces are one of the most common sources of many diseases. Such as Parvo Virus and whipworms and hook worms and round worms and Giardia. But the best way to prevent these illnesses and many bacterial infections that can be contacted through stools is to remove as often as possible and keep the vaccinations and fecal examinations and dewormings up to date. I am an advent scooper with my dogs for that reason. when we walk I have baggies in my pockets. lol But chances are as long as your dog is up to date on it's shots and dewormings it will be ok. :0)

Can you get sick from stepping in dog poop barefoot?

You're unlikely to get sick from it unless you have an open wound on your foot, in which case you could get an infection and probably shouldn't be wandering around bare foot to begin with.

Why would a mother dog eat her puppies' poop?

Instinct. Mother dogs clean their young pups' rear ends after they eliminate.

Will my dogs get sick if they eat fox poo?

If your dog is on some sort of de worming medicine monthly like Sentinel, Interceptor or other heart worm preventative, it is likely that your dog will be fine. Those preventative dewormers protect against other parasites like round worms, tapeworms, whip worms, and hook worms. Check the labeling because each one protects against different parasites.

That said, I would not encourage fox poo eating. Keep an eye on your dogs stools for signs of parasites or diarrhea. If symptoms present themselves contact a medical professional.

Good Luck!
