I University Of Phoenix A Good School

Is University of Phoenix a good school?

From what I hear yes it is. It is fully accreditted from what I have read. I hear it can get pricey, but if you can afford it go for it!

edit: the guy below me is wrong it is not like Devry or ITT tech. No Devry campus is accreditted, and ITT tech "credits" do NOT transfer to a "real" college.

U of P is a great way to get your degree from an accreditted university. So what if you do it online, that is just as good as going to class on campus.

I say you're doing the right thing

Is University of Phoenix a good online school?

There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and have taught for various online schools including the University of Phoenix. All are accredited and solid programs. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.

The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am close to finishing my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. If you are looking at work in the U.S., then you need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later. Always check accreditation at the accrediting body and not the school's site.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Is the University of Phoenix a good school?

If you want to sacrifice quality for instant gratification, then go for it. I had recently realized that I wanted an MBA, but it was already too late to apply for the 2010-11 school year at many public universities. So I applied at UoP and was surprised at the lack of requirements to get into the program (no GMAT scores, no letters of recommendation, no minimum 3.0 undergrad GPA). I don't feel challenged, but I'm getting practice in research skills and writing papers. We're basically teaching ourselves the material. UoP is geared towards working adults who likely already have career jobs. If I was fresh out of college or between jobs, I would definitely go for a public university even it meant using federal loans. University of San Diego and University of Texas Pan American, for example, have evening programs and Pan Am has an online program, which would accomodate some flexibility.

Is the University of Phoenix a good school?

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }I attended a brick-and-mortar school before going to the University of Phoenix and I felt like the work was on a par. If anything, the work at UoP was a bit harder and there is a good deal of research now that shows online educations score well against there classroom counterparts. One of the things I hated about my classes was the team work requirement. It was based on a good idea; that most jobs require people to collaborate on projects and the  team assignments forced us to learn to work in that kind of environment. The problem, especially at the beginning, was that people would quit a class and not tell their team. There was more than one night I stayed up late writing a part of a paper that had been assigned to someone else. Frustrating, but I learned a great deal and can now write in APA format with the best of them. One of the respondents has suggested that UoP is not properly accredited. That is not the case. They are accredited by The Higher Learning Comission along with Arizona State, Case Western Reserve and 1300 other schools. Their problems and reputation are not based on poor academics, but on the number of students they graduate. A good state school will graduate more than 85% of the students who matriculate there. If it falls below that, people start to ask questions and rightfully so. UoP’s graduation rate is less than 5%, yet last year they received $3.2 billions in federal student loan money. Some of this cannot be helped as some people start only to learn they don’t have the self discipline to continue. But in my opinion, the school has not properly addressed this issue. The Higher Learning Comission has now put the school on probation for this very reason after getting more than a little pressure from Congress. So to answer your question: UoP is a very good school for those who have the self-discipline to work in an online environment but it is a dropout factory for those who do not.

Is the University of Phoenix a good school for nursing?

No. You'd be much better off studying nursing at your local community or technical college. It's cheaper, more respected (as long as it's not a for-profit school) and you'd get a better education.

Is University of Phoenix a good school to get an MBA?

Absolutely not. To start with the Phoenix MBA is not AACSB-accredited.

Secondly, a Phoenix MBA is "MBA-lite" and gets no respect at all from employers. Many toss any job application listing a Phoenix degree directly into the trash.

If you want a credible on-line MBA, check out the Heriot-Watt external MBA. It is world class.

"“Their [U of Phoenix] business degree is an M.B.A. Lite,” said Henry M. Levin, a professor of higher education at Teachers College at Columbia University. “I’ve looked at their course materials. It’s a very low level of instruction.”"

University of Phoenix good or bad college?

Hi I found the consumer complain so much about University of Phoenix from this site.
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/education/phoenix_easya.html
I was thinking to apply for IT degree and decide to start, but now I am very confused after I read people complain so much.

Another thing, I am just wondering is it really can teach for 5 meet times for 20 hours to teach each class.??? The traditional college ( U of Arizona) is 16 weeks, and WIU is 9 weeks. The adviser kinds of calling and pushes me for sign me up soon.
He told me this is best start (8/29~)and quick finish your BA degree. I thought it was good idea, but I need more opinion before I sign up, or I should not sign up.

I need advice who took this college is really bad or good? What about when you work the resume shows U of P, is it something same value with other college or not?

Why do some ppl say the University of Phoenix is a joke school?

It's rather comical how often individuals express such hatred towards the University of Phoenix. Unwarranted hatred for that matter.

Often people have arguments towards the University of Phoenix, but they fail to establish principles or foundations on which sound inferences can be made. It is for this reason that I would like to knock off two huge misconceptions about the University of Phoenix.

First off, the University of Phoenix is a regionally accredited institution, which channels the same level of accreditation as Harvard, Yale, or even your local state school. What this means is, most credits earned will transfer, and the degree you receive is a real degree.

Secondly, the University of Phoenix is not a diploma mill. Contrary to popular belief, the University of Phoenix demands strict attention to detail and requires extensive time devoted to academics. Course work at the University of Phoenix often comes across challenging, strenuous, and even vigorous at times.

It seems an abounding amount of people have negative views towards the University of Phoenix because of their aggressive advertising and marketing plans. Look, it's simple, The University of Phoenix is not Harvard, nor is it trying to be. The school's main purpose is to provide hard working adults with an honest education. So regardless if you are for it, or against it, students who graduate from the University of Phoenix will receive a real-world education with real value.

And to make some people mad, here’s the truth. Schools like Harvard and Yale don’t teach anything too differently than state schools or even schools like the University of Phoenix. The only things that separates them are distinguished faculty members, top notch facilities, and of course, years of unscathed prestige. To wrap everything up, you get out of it what you put into it. And that goes for any school.

Is the University of Phoenix an accredited school?

Yes it is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) which is a part of the sextet of regional US accrediting organizations for the US. The business school is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs(ACBSP) which has been recognized by the CHEA since 2001. The nursing school's BS and MS nursing degrees are accredited  by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(CCNE) which is recognized by the United States Secretary of Education. In the College of education the MA in education is accredited by the Teacher education accreditation council (TEAC) which is also recognized by the CHEA.If you don't believe here is a list of recognized accreditation agencies by the CHEA: Page on chea.org
