Why do grown men play video games?

Most want to shirk responsibility and try and retain or relive their youth. Honestly how many guys over 30 do you see work or shop at gamestop? Unless buying with their children. Also you see any older guys streaming on twitch? Lol. Its listed online with games and toys. At a certain age we quit playing with...action figures...dolls..watching cartoons .etc. Grown men work..pay their bills...spend time with their families..take care of their kids etc. Most gamers sit for hours and hours and ignore all else. That's just sad. Games are for kids...real life is for adults :-)

Where do you listen to music?

Everyfreakin' where. In the car, if i don't feel like talking to the passengers or if it is a long drive. At school, 2 of my highschool teachers allow music in during class sometimes. While doing chores and dishes, because chores are boring af and I love music. While on the bus going to school and while going to first period, it's the morning, music feels surreal and prepares me for the day.:) While working out, because it motivates me. Sometimes in my room in front of my laptop just for fun; i'll be looking up all kinds of music and such and keeping myself updated with my various youtube music subscriptions. Before I go to bed, sometimes it gets my mind off of things just laying there in my bed listening to chill music when I'm stressed out. Sometimes when I have friends over I'll blast music for fun. While playing video games at my mom's or dad's house, I love gaming + music, it is the perfect combo. However, I don't listen to music when I'm playing with a friend unless the music is coming from speakers and not headphones. I'm sort of an auudiofile o I also listen to music when testing out headphones. I think that is it. :P

Do you consider watching movies or listening to music a hobby?

There's a fine there... and it really all depends on how active/passive you are with that activity. For some, movies and music are very passive activities used to kill time or the white noise of the day. Then there are people like me, that take it to a higher level of understanding, and even "collection" that is very, very active.I don't just watch movies, I study them, write about them, defend them, live for the moments when I can sneak out to see one, and get angry when I can't for longer periods of time because "life" gets in the way.I don't just listen to music, I do everything above, and collect it in its vinyl form as a way of retaining its greatness for years to come.Oh yes... both can be a great hobby.

Why can I play video games for hours, but when I try to study, I lose concentration in seconds?

That’s because games are fun and easy, they’re designed to be that way and only the ones that successfully do that are able to sell and become popular. Take some game design courses, they’re literally made to be just difficult enough to be rewarding and easy enough to make you feel like you’re the king of the world. Playing games isn’t hard, they pander to your every needs. Studying (and school in general) is designed to be incredibly difficult, it’s designed to filter out the people that wouldn’t be good at their profession.Consider this, someone plays a game, has fun, doesn’t win a lot but still enjoys it, his winning or losing doesn’t impact a whole lot of people. Ten years from now you wouldn’t mind playing games with them right? On the other hand, someone studies to be an engineer but is failing some classes and only barely graduates. Ten years from now, do you want that person to have engineered the car you’re driving or the plane you’re flying on?When it doesn’t matter how well you do, then it’s easy. I bet your mentality about games would change if you had to be a professional gamer and win all of your games. Imagine if you must get a perfect score or your must win on your game and if you couldn’t do it, you must keep replaying that level or that character until you got it. I imagine games would be a lot less fun. There’s a reason why South Koreans are on every leader board and are insanely good, they’ve combined their insane-study mentality to their gaming as well. Studying would be fun too if you didn’t have to get good grades, you could just read about stuff like “How to make $1,000 in a day” instead of “The chemical bonds of hydrogen and it’s reactivity”.If school was easy, everyone would become doctors, engineers, and lawyers no problem, school must be hard for it to be worth anything. Things are hard when you are forced to become good at it, I’m sure studying isn’t hard in pre-school or kindergarten, it only really becomes difficult in high school and beyond. In essence, this is what Seth Godin coined as The Dip. If you haven’t read his book then read it, I swear it will change your life, it changed mine.

What does the term "hardcore gamer" mean?

I came across the term "hardcore gamer," and I just want to know what it actually means. I already know that hardcore gamers play very much video games, does this mean they are video game addicts? I even began to feel that hardcore gamer don't have fun while playing games, they just want to win. Is this true?

I play video games a lot, and I often keep up with game news. I play only singleplayer games and not multiplayer/online games. Does this make me a hardcore gamer?

Can someone please explain to me what "hardcore gamer" exactly means?

Things to do on a long plane ride?

Read a Book or Magazine

Although you may not normally have time to sit down with a good book and read, a long plane ride is the perfect time to catch up on reading that book you''ve been meaning to get to or your favorite magazine. That''s why books and magazines are the top selling items in the airport stores.

Sleep

Need to catch up on some much needed sleep? A long flight can be a great way to get those extra Zzzs and kill time on way to your final destination. Some tips for a more restful sleep include bringing a travel pillow, wear comfortable shoes you can slip off easily, and use snoring prevention, like Breathe Right Strips, if you have been known to snore. Nobody wants to sit next to a snoring passenger, so plan to be comfortable yourself and let others enjoy their flight as well with snoring prevention.

Work or Study

A long plane trip is a great time to get some work done or study for school. It''s quiet so you can focus on your work. Laptop computers make it even easier these days to write a paper for school, study for a big test, or complete the work you need before your vacation or business trip. Take along a pen and a pad of paper too in case you want to joy down some notes.

Play Games

Everyone likes to play games! If you are traveling with someone you can play cards, a magnetic board game, or on a laptop computer. If you''re flying solo you can still play with handheld portable games or computer games. Make sure you bring an extra laptop computer battery since gaming tends to drain your battery quickly, and you may not have anywhere to plug in while flying.

Puzzles and Brain Teasers

Kids and adults can both have fun with crossword puzzles, word search puzzles, and Sodoku, the hottest new game of logic. You can buy a book of all of these puzzles mixed together to entertain and challenge you.

Music or Audio Books

With the popularity of portable Mp3 players like iPods, taking music with you anywhere you want is easier than ever. You can also get a new book on tape, CD, or digital download. So for those of you who don''t like to read, now you can have the book read to you for the same cost as the book itself. What a deal!

Hope this helps

I have never flown before & I am terrified. Can anyone offer advice that may make my flight easy? Please...?

I am flying with a friend but she can't be much help since this is her first flight and she's scared also. My flight is from Detroit to Ves (5 hours). I have Xanax that was prescribed by my doctor (does this really work)? Unfortunately, I chose a window seat. Lol!

Why can I not sit still in my college classes? I'm always doodling or twitching my leg, but when I'm at home studying with music or playing video games, I can sit still. I also have a hard time sitting still while watching movies.

Sitting in college classes is not the same as sitting at home. In class, you are in a state of psychological arousal: alert to the discussion, alert to the people around you, probably somewhat self-conscious about how you look or how you are presenting yourself to others, and perhaps anxious about whether you are “getting” what is being taught. This floods your body with arousal hormones like adrenaline and gives you that nervous energy that makes you want to move - doodle, twitch, hake your leg, or even get up and walk around. At home, with familiar music playing, you have none of that stimulation and you are in a state of relaxation and feel calm.If you feel this way in a movie theater, but not watching movies at home, I would say that it might be the confined space, the crowd, the feeling of being closed in, and the dark are all making you feel a bit panicky. Or maybe you are self-conscious about your laughing or other reactions and whether others will notice them and think that you are weird. If you feel the same way watching movies at home, then I would say that in both the classroom situation and the movie situation, you likely have a problem with concentration and letting yourself “go” and being lost in a subject matter. Doing this somehow frightens you or makes you feel threatened. If you want to get to the bottom of this, a therapist with good listening skills or one who is practiced at using hypnotism may be able to help you find out why this is an issue for you.
