I Want A Purpose In Life

What is your purpose of life?

To be happy, make others happy, and hopefully leave this world a better place because of it.

I have no purpose to my life?

If I may, there is a lot of "feel" in there. Sometimes, especially when we are in our teens and 20's, we FEEL a lot of stuff that is not true. We follow those "feelings" instead of thinking, and it gets us "feeling" even worse.

You DO have a purpose, you just have not found it yet. Start looking at your life like a treasure hunt--finding that purpose, looking for clues, working hard, staying focused.

I know you do not "feel" like doing stuff, but we all need to do what we do not "feel" like, and often that is EXACTLY when things start to click. Trust me ;) Stay in school--you can switch majors down the road, but a degree is really key.

If you are fighting with your family, then stop. It is not helping at all, and fighting will increase your "feeling bad". Work on building good relationships with other people.

Having a boyfriend often takes up the bulk of our time--time that we would devote to friendships and hobbies and other things. Work on developing more of "you" that does not require him--not because he is not a good guy, but because you need to become more fully you.

Since you love kids, and are looking for purpose, why don't you volunteer at a shelter or the church nursery? Visit sick kids in the hospital or sick kids in your church? Tutor children, mentor children? Do something that is not "you focused" but "other people focused"--I GUARANTEE that will help. What is happening with you is too much "staring at your belly button". When you start engaging with other people at church, engaging with those less fortunate than you, you will find a sense of purpose. But you cannot find that sitting only with your boyfriend (again, even if he is a great guy) and fighting with your family. You have to work, not just "feel". :)

19 is a hard age, it really does get better *IF* you work at bettering your life and not wait for your life to just get better. You can do this. :)

Why do some people want life to have a purpose?

Many levels of answers are possible. Also many questions which can arise from your question. One possible answer is: when the heart ( love ) is open then the question does not arise. When the heart is closed, one suffers in all kinds of ways. Joseph Campbell said ones: follow your bliss…..From the ultimate level the answer is because we don’t know who we are. Is it not strange, that 99% of human beings are not interested in this question : “ who am I”. Which is basically the same as asking what life is about. Plato said that the beginning of all philosophy is wonderment. When we think we know it all then life becomes terribly boring, without purpose, or as the case may be: without meaning.

What’s the purpose of life, I want to die?

The purpose of life is to prove to God is you are a good person or if you are evil. We are here in this nasty situation because our ancestors disobeyed God and they wanted to follow their own rules. The Devil is real, he influenced them into disobeying because he wanted to make humans serve him. God had to let enough time pass by to prove that humans cannot rule themselves without His help and especially not with the Devil as a ruler(he used to be an angel who rebelled and wanted to be worshiped by humans instead of God) That is why the world is extremely chaotic and more and more people do evil things because the Devil(Satan) knows that he has only a short time left to live because god said he was going to kill him and restore the earth just like in the beginning and leave onto it only humans who did what was right. To do this one must study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses because they are the only ones who know exactly how to serve God the way he wants to. All other religions have been corrupted by pagan rituals over time during the Roman empire and they mixed it with politics and other human philosophies ;mostly Greek philosophy. People say ridiculous things about Jehovah’s Witnesses but trust me man they absolutely have no idea what they are saying. They are a Christian religion(not a sect) and they do believe in Jesus. You don’t have to give your money or do anything weird. If you compare any Bible and read the Gospels you can clearly see that Jehovah’s Witnesses are the only ones who actually follow what Jesus said 100%. Jesus and his apostles preached, so do JW’s and they share the Bible message and tell people about what is happening to mankind and the world. They started warning people that we were in the last days over 130 years ago and warned that society would become eviler and eviler and that is why you see the things you see on the news and around you. Don’t kill yourself man, give them a shot and don’t listen to what others are saying. I was raised a JW so I know what I’m talking about. Hope this helps!

I feel like I have no purpose in life?

I'm 14, and sometimes I feel excactly the same way. Ever since my first break up almost 2 monthes ago, I feel like no one understands me, even my closest friends, twin sister, and parents. I feel like I don't have a purpose in life, too. What I found to help me was focusing on my school work (I am quite bright as well), getting closer to God (I am Christian, but focusing on your religion will help you, too), and really trying to help people everywhere. Another thing I would do is set 1 short term goal (1-2 monthes) and 1 long term goal (3 monthes-1 year). This gives you something to focus on in life. :) Also, I'd try getting back into writing if I were you, or finding another hobby you enjoy imensouly. Maybe even give yourself a makeover, big or small! Also, join a club or sport and make some new friends!!!! :) You have a few years to figure out what you want to do, so don't worry! Be happy :) You only live life once, and in the big picture your still quite young! So go out, have fun, fall in love, say what you wanna say and do what you want to do, regret nothing, and don't let people who don't matter, bring you down <3 Surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the one's who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life, getting back up is living. :) Good luck and have a fantastic day :) <3

Do you think we have a purpose in life?

No.No we don’t have an inherent “purpose” in life. We do however, have some non-inherent purposes in life, but they are not very inspiring unfortunately. Evolutionarily, our purpose in life is to reproduce, but that is a broken purpose from an individual standpoint. Obviously sex is not the only worthwhile thing in life, and neither raising a child. No, the real “purpose” in life is much more cynical. It is to be happy, or more precisely, to obtain dopamine (and also endorphin, oxytocin, and serotonin. I’ll be using “dopamine” to reference all happiness chemicals). At the end of the day, our brain is just a computer. It may be an unbelievably complex, unique, and powerful computer, but it is a computer nonetheless. Like all computers, it is running a program, and the goal of that program is to obtain dopamine. Many people will disagree and give counter examples, but these seemingly selfless acts are actually all in our own self interest. The two things we need to remember to tackle theses counter examples is thatGuilt detracts dopamineThe brain is always trying to make choices that result in the most dopamine, but it does not always succeedLet’s try some examples:You want to watch TV, but your friend needs help with something so you help him/her instead.Helping your friend is indeed the path of most dopamine because if you just watched TV, you would have to live with the guilt of ditching your friend which would detract from your happiness. You know that doing drugs will just lead to more pain, but you do it anyway. The human brain is not very smart when making decisions between long term dopamine and short term dopamine. It is not a perfect automatic dopamine finding machine. It has many flaws in its algorithm and this is just one of manyAt the end of the day, this is not a very glamorous or satisfying answer, but it is a true one. This relates very much to nihilism, something that I am a proud supporter of. I really do believe this and I don’t say things like this just to be cool and edgy. In fact I came up with this rough idea when I was very young, before I even knew what nihilism was. It just seemed logical and self-evidential. I couldn’t imagine any other system of philosophy that challenges this one and is also plausible. Anyway, the dopamine I obtain from making strangers understand my thoughts has been collected and no more is to be said.

I feel like i have no purpose in life, what should i do?

I do so many things, I play 9 instruments, I draw, I play sports, but I feel like I need to pick one thing and be really good at it, but I also feel like its too late. The thing is, I get inspired really easily, after I see a show about gymnastics or singing, I wanna start it. I want to pick something
But I don't know what, I love everything I do.What should I do???

How to define my purpose of life?

Your purpose in life is found where your greatest strength meets the greatest need in the world.

In other words, if you can find your talent (something you do better than others) and find WHERE your talent would contribute the most to helping others, then I would say there's a safe bet that you've found your purpose.

The majority of people have not yet found their true talent. Or if they have, they didn't have the courage to go to the dark places where their talent will lead them. It's okay, I'm not judging anyone here.

Just saying that finding one's talent is key to finding one's purpose. But after you've found your talent, courage is needed to go out there and find the place where your talent can contribute the most.

This is the advice -- in the form of a simple question -- that the late Peter Drucker offered to people who were looking for their purpose in life or their career:

"What do you want to contribute?"
