I Want Carrer Counsling

How good is it to go for career counselling?

Choosing to be a career counselor might just be your blessing in disguise !I’ve been working as a mathematics teacher from 10 years in a local school in Delhi - and somehow, unknowingly I fell into a cycle of monotony and hit a growth plateau. I’ve been teaching and doing the same thing through out my career span and I wanted to breakout of the cycle. I started looking up new ways to make maths fun and inevitably ended up picking up information on different things my students could choose to do - like becoming Actuaries or a statistician or even a data scientist !!And I ended up becoming the career counselor for the school - a new development for the school, that never did something like this ! I decided to take one step further and get certified - I kept at it for a while and came across the UCLA Extension Global Career Counselor Certification !! In a market that is stagnated with students who might not look at options other than engineering or medicine - This was a GOLDEN TICKET !! It’s an online course that you can take up anytime and as per your schedules - it also gives you insight into various education systems that people follow everywhere !! It is rated as #1 across South Asia! You can check it out here - UCLA Ext. and UnivarietyI now do freelance counseling for students starting class 9 - 12 and help them decide on their careers too !!! I can guarantee that this was the best step I ever took !

Who needs career counselling, and when?

Hey!Everyone can benefit from working with a career counsellor; but first, you need to identify how you would like them to help you. This will help you decide who to work with. Not all of us work the same or help you reach the same types of goals. You can start by asking yourself what you hope to get from working with a career counsellor (i.e., the end result). Are you looking for a better job? Do you want to identify your next career step? Do you want to find more purpose and discover what you really want to do?Do you want a corporate position, or something unconventional and creative? It’s also a great idea to take advantage of the complimentary sessions/ consultations that are often offered (sometimes there’s an hourly fee). This will give you the opportunity to get to know them, ask questions and find out if you are a good match.Hope this helps!Inspiring YOU to Live a Life you LOVE!Priscilla

I need career counselling. Can anyone help me?

Dear Naveen, You can do Wonders ! You are your best guide and mentor. Let me give you a simple exercise on GOAL.  We are unable to differentiate between Goals and Dreams. Anything that do not have any deadline or quantity specified to it, is a dream, Like Big House, 6 figure salary, Good Job, etc. Now consider this.  A Manager Job by end of April 2017 with salary of 1,50,000 per month and a 3 BHK house in XXXX locality. Does it make sense now?Now your exercise for next 7 days is to write down you GOALS that should be S.M.A.R.TSpecific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time boundYour 5 GOALS for next one year, starting today should fall under the above mentioned criteria. Keep in mind what you can do and what you are capable of. Then design your next one year keeping in mind the goals you want to achieve and the ways to reach them. Do not set goals that are easily attainable. Set them so high that you yourself find it difficult to achieve.  Write them down on a plain paper and paste it on your mirror. See them daily as many times as you can. Starting day 3 you will start up building new ideas and ways to  achieve them. on 7th day I am pretty much sure you will know where your future is,  And the day you take your 1st step towards it, is the day , your life changes. Answer me on this same forum after 7 days what did you learn. And I would be happy if you could share how in just 7 days you could find what you can do best and what you had been missing so far. ** - Remember one thing, your goals should be so high that people around you, when know about it, should laugh on you and should say " Its Impossible for you ". If this happens your goals are Bang On Target.

Should I get a masters in school counseling or career counseling?

Each state may have different requirements for *possibly* obtaining a job as a school counselor. (Jobs are very competitive for school counselors as most stay until retirement unless getting fired or laid off.) A job in career counseling may require a doctorate (PhD or PsyD) such as in counseling psychology, but please talk to a college counselor about it, too.

If you haven't found out your state's certification requirements for school counselors, here is a site to search: http://schoolcounselor.org/ and can click "school counselors & members" and click "career/roles" and then "state certification requirements" or such.

With regard to schooling, please *avoid* those private overly priced For-profit schools and instead consider the public/state university as long as the program is accredited within the industry. (Just an fyi that "american public university" is a for-profit school.)

For U.S. colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

General career info: http://www.bls.gov/ooh and can search.

How can I get a job as a career counselor?

I would like to be counselor at a college, high school, or for professionals.

I have a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Human Resources plus 3 years interviewing and selection experience.

Is there any website specifically for career counselors? I am very familiar with all your general job boards (monster, indeed, Career builder), but you comb through thousands of posts for one real career counselor post.

Is counselling helpful for a career choice?

Career counselling, also known as career guidance, is counselling designed to help with choosing, changing, or leaving a career and is available at any stage in life. One's career is often one of the most important aspects of adulthood, and embarking on a new career, whether for the first time, the second time, or any time thereafter, can be a stressful event, especially when economic difficulties such as recession are a factor. A career counsellor can help by outlining and discussing one's potential career options.Choosing a career is an important task, but it may also be a difficult one. It may not be easy to decide what type of job will be the best fit, and since career counselling helps people assess their skills, needs, and desires in order to find a career that works for them, this type of counselling is considered to be an important step to take before deciding on a permanent career. A career counsellor will often be able to provide valuable information in these areas and others. Some of the following question may help you in narrowing your confusion, to figuring out what kind of career would fit to your skills, concentration, needs and desires. What do I enjoy doing? What kinds of activities are fun and fulfilling for me?What am I good at?What is my skill set? What qualifications do I have, such as a degree or experience? How much money do I need to make to feel satisfied? What jobs are available in the place(s) I’d like to live?Do I want to travel? What are my values? Is it important to me to be of service to others?Am I looking for intensely challenging work or something relatively easy?Am I willing to do what others tell me without question, or would I rather make most decisions on my own?To what degree do I need stability and security? For career counselling contact.

Career Advice: I want to be a counselor, what is the best route into this career if you are in your mid thirties?

These are the the two bodies that voluntarily regulate counselling and psychotherapy in the UK:http://www.ukcp.org.uk/http://www.bacp.co.uk/As there is currently no set rules for what is required to study counselling or psychotherapy at the moment anyone can call themselves a counsellor or psychotherapist. That means you need to be very careful about taking a course which doesn't have very high standards. UKCP or BACP accreditation is normally required for any counselling job.If you have don't have any experience of counselling you might want to try some volunteer work before you pay to study to see if it is what you expected e.g. through volunteering or mentoring. You don't say where you are in the UK so it's difficult for me to offer specific examples and I am only familiar with the South of England. You could also look into charities such as victim support or Barnados where you could try and get a job as they will give you training whilst paying you (I'm not sure if you have a particular area of interest).https://www.victimsupport.org.uk/https://www.barnados.org.ukSamaritans also offer training for their support positions. It is very expensive to train as a psychotherapist (approx £25k+) and there is a lot of competition for not many paying jobs (unless working privately where you have to get your own clients). Add to this the regulation issues where people can practice without training and the fact that many people need help but do not want it or want help but will not pay for it and it's a bit of a headache. Honestly if I were the main breadwinner in my household I would be very cautious and I would perhaps have a salaried job and work for the Samaritans. It can of course be done but it is expensive, time consuming andemotionally  exhausting. It's good to be prepared for this. I'm sorry if this isn't the answer you were looking for.
