I Want Something To Do

How do you say 'I want (something)' and 'I need (something)' in Korean?

Ok... What Sean M said is basically correct, except one thing.

저는 X을/를 필요해요. = I need X.
(Jeo-neun X-reul pi-ryohaeyo)

The particle here should be 'ga' or 'i.'

저는 X가/이 필요해요.
Jeo neun X ga /i piryohaeyo.

When X ends with a vowel, use 'ga.' When X ends with a consonant, use 'i.'

How do you get yourself to want something?

If you’ve watched a few seasons of Game of Thrones, you’re probably familiar with wildfire. It burns without control, it can’t be contained and has no regards for obstacles.Well, in a metaphorical way, you posses a weapon like that in your internal mental arsenal. That is your curiosity. Galileo didn’t actually know he ‘wanted’ to study physics, he was just immensely curious about the workings of the universe, and the result was he was the father of the astronomy and the scientific method. Newton was a physicist, but more than that he was just bugged about gravity. Curiosity is the biggest human trait that enabled every single achievement in history, spawned countless revolutions in our lifestyle and still changes our lives in ways we’re not even fully aware yet. No wonder curiosity is being ‘sparked’.Read about the thing you want to want. You’ll hit some point which will ignite your inner wildfire. You are the most advanced species on the planet, and that’s mostly because you already posses the ability to get interested in things. Today, you have the ability to find out any of them too.You mentioned quitting smoking. Well, start with some research. What are all the negative effects of every cigarette smoked? How much a life is improved without smoking? Going crazy with this is recommended, like doing charts and a/b testings. The mere knowledge of what every cigarette is doing to a person should be enough. That’s how I quit sugar (well almost, I enjoy some ice-cream on occasion, but I guess one cigarette in a month is not as bad as two packs a day). No matter what and how you wish to achieve wanting a thing, feeding knowledge to your ever-hungry curiosity should aid you greatly.

I want to do something big. Where do I start?

The only thing you should do right now, is stop listening to what people say about the ideas that you are asking for. Thousands of people will give you thousand different ideas, and will tell you a thousand different ways to achieve it. Rarely one or two of them might be clear enough for you to follow.Just dive in. You want to do something, then dive in right now with your awesome ideas!Consider your idea as freshly prepared food, which is bound to become stale with time. What's the use of freshly prepared food? To be eaten right now, fresh. Do that to your ideas, jump in and start doing what you want to do. Be clear with it.Make a lot of mistakes. It's said that one should learn from others' mistakes, but no single person learnt to drive a car by observing the driver. Learn from each and every mistake that YOU make. If you forget to learn, repeat the mistake, and then learn. The point is, there's no point waiting for opinions and external help. Dive in, not tomorrow, not after an hour, right now!Believe me, if you really want to do something, clear all obstacles on your own. Find the right direction by first going towards a random direction. It might or might not be the most appropriate way for you. But you'll learn to choose and make decisions all by yourself. All the best. Hope you start from today, finding what to do - clearly, doing that - clearing all the obstacles.

What must you say when you want something?

Edit: THIS ANSWER WAS TO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT QUESTION, QUORA USER CONTENT REVIEW DECIDED TO MERGE IT HERE.Original question:What should you say when someone gives you something? It depends on what you are given. If you are given a punch in the face I don’t think that the most appropriate thing to say is “thank you”.

(Japanese) How would you say "I want you to do something"?

I know how to say that I want something or that I want to do something (using 欲しい or the ~たい form). But how do I say that I want someone else to do something?

Would it be something like this?
僕は、あなたは食べるのが欲しい
This is just a wild guess.

Can anyone help?

Why do we only want something until it's ours?

its all the thrill of the chase i guess.
its not just with people either its with experiences.
you want a big promotion, you work so hard to get it, you get it, you get your ego boost, then you get bored.

i did this for years with a good friend of mine.
and we both experienced it.
we were good friends and hung around in the same group, so we were always in contact with eachother. we therefore used to flirt alot.
we both loved it.
then we would get together, get bored after 2 weeks, break up and then start flirting again and the process repeated about 5 times.

the thrill of the chase in exciting.
i would go to bed wondering if we would get together the next day.
only to be dissapointed when it happens.

or maybe thats why.
maybe in the thrill of the chase and all of the build up we work ourselves up to think the result is going to be so much better than it actually is.

i guess it's one of those things we may never know.
the idea of something is always better than reality.

Can you want something you already have?

This is a thought provoking question. Here's what I could pen down from my thoughts. Two words which are vital in the question are WANT & HAVE. Here's what I understand by those words-Want - DesireHave - PosessionDesire and possession being two distinct words, you can desire what you possess. Meaning you can want what you already have.To answer a little beyond what's been asked for in the question, there is a great learning for life which enables one to live life regret free. This is what I say to myself more often in relation to WANT & HAVE.I'll have what I WANT , cause I WANT what I HAVE.

If you want something really bad, do you get it?

You cant just say that easily.Everyone wants to be something, but only some end up achieving it.Key elements:Strong BeliefSmart workHonestyPlan and stick to itDisciplineI saw a video of a guy who wanted to become Olympic champion by winning a good meal in shooting. He is right handed shooter and is exceptionally fantastic and shooting is his forte. And a really miserable thing happened in his life and lost his right hand in a war that he actually lost it by a hand grenade explosion. That is the end of his dream. He really wanted to become world no 1 shooter but something unexpected took place in his life.He went to the Olympics and all the participants of shooting started greeting him and expressed that they were really amazed and happy to see him come to support everyone who is competing. Then the real mystery reveals, he said "I am not here to encourage someone, I came here to give you people a strong competition".Everyone got shocked by listening to that.He had lost his hand which is used for shooting. But his want made him do the unthinkable, he started practicing with the second hand with which he cant write but he worked on it day and night with discipline.Everyone are competing with their better hand but this guy is competing with his only one hand! The end result he won the Olympics championship.Amazing right? Yes he truely is a gem of a person! So when you need something, give everything that is required and never loose your hope!- Ravi

Is there a difference between "to want something" and "to want to want something"?

Yes, definitely, there is a difference between those phrases. If you stick to the specifics, you'll notice that 'to want to want something' is a subset of 'to want something' because the 'something' that you want in that latter is actually 'to want something'. Sorry, if that was confusing. Now, in the normal times, when you say that 'you want something', people usually mean that you want it and you think that you want it. It is usually used to say familiar things like you want a dog, or a playstation. But, when you say that you 'want to want something', you are drastically differing from the statement above. You are saying that despite whatever is happening around you, you really don't feel like wanting a particular thing. But you know that you should want it. It is a mental condition in which you ask yourself that 'why am I not having a feeling that I want to be with this girl?'You want to want a playstation means that you do not actually want it, but you are criticizing yourself on being okay with not wanting it. You, in this case, want that you want the playstation.I hope it was clear, if it wasn't tell me in the comments.
