I Want To Become A Witch But Have No Clue Where To Start.

How do witches become witches and can you be born a witch?

Yes I believe some women are born witches although traditional witches would scoff at that. Some people are born magical. They can't help it. Yes I think it's genetic. It has nothing to do with initiations or covens or broomsticks. Some people just are born with certain gifts and it's who they are.It also depends on your definition of “Witch”.The most witchy women I ever met was not an initiated Witch. Also too, I noticed that there are a lot of people who are attracted to the pagan lifestyle or religion because they watched a movie or read a book and want to be Harry Potter or whoever they think a “Witch” is. There is nothing more upsetting for me to like go to some ritual or moon and I walk into a house that is filled with witch propaganda and images of Hollywood defined witches and magic.People want the image and they don't really have any kind of idea about what it's really about or what magic is. They are not witches. But they are a lot of times the Preistess or the initiated witch / because they feel so badly that they want to be called a witch , they will do whatever it takes to be considered one.Being a witch has nothing to do with broomsticks and black cats.Magic isn't anything like it is in the movies. It's not an Image to pick out of the closet and wear. It's either who you are or it isnt. And this is exactly why I think witches are born. Sure some can be made. But they are different already and not like other people. So in essence, they always were a witch , they just found a name for themselevs.

How long does it take to become an expert in witchcraft?

From what perspective? Do you mean how long to become an accomplished witch, or how long to become a nonmagical, outsider expert the way cops used to believe they were back during Satanic Panic? An outsider is never going to become an expert, because they're judging what they see, looking for easily identifiable characteristics, so all they can ever know are the obvious signs — which won't be reliable for judging good magick or bad magick, or even the skill of the witch.Witchcraft is a long-term commitment to a course of study, with multiple avenues of influence. First, you begin with the basics, which you learn quickly — tools needed, how to cast a circle, calling quarters, invoking gods, candle magick, basic herbs, stuff like that. Then, if you are serious, you read lots and lots of books on not just the forms and trappings I described, but also about the mystical, internal processes of spiritual growth and understanding, the reasons why those tools etc are used, how to work with spirits (there are many kinds), and then over time you gain an intimate knowledge of why these elements are included and how to intuit your own spells and rituals. All the while doing ritual on each Sabbat, full moon, and new moon to gain practical knowledge. From there you start to branch out into the traditions that influence witchcraft — Qabalah, ceremonial magick, various others. And perhaps you finally, at some point, get past the thirst for power (yawn), get past all the white lighter stuff, and go into the ordeals, the shadows, and the assimilation of your darker self and understanding why there must be balance. Most of all, if you don't burn for it with a fire in your heart, you will never make it.There is no shortage of material to learn from. Be wary of websites, as there is a lot of garbage out there by newbies who just want to look cool.Best of luck.

Im a starter witch.. with some questions?

Alright so I'm not FULLY converted to Wicca. I dont really believe in the gods and goddess, my faith is with catholic beliefs. HOWEVER, I've always felt "connected" to magic and such since i was a baby. I felt weird from other children, i was able to bond so easily with animals and do the strangest things. Anyways, i finally convinced myself that i should be a "witch". However... sense then there have been a few things.
1. A black orb. It was kind of like an orb anyways... more of a ribbon-like thing anyways. I nearly dropped my cup when i saw it, even my familiar saw it and she instantly rushed over to me. What WAS it and what did it MEAN? I was really spooked from that incident.
2. Starter materials? Im broke so ill need the cheapest materials possible. I already have a pendant and some crystals so that isn't a problem for me.
3. Why do i get weird feelings all of the sudden? Like someone is watching me.. or something like that anyways. Whenever i feel that way i notice my familiar (She is a cat named Ivypool) instantly rushes over to me and gets really protective.
4. Sometimes weird things happen to me, all involving animals (usually). For instance, at camp there was this one stray cat. Did NOT want to be anywhere near anybody else but for some reason it kept sticking around. I decided i wanted to take a look at this stray cat and the SECOND i walk outside, he is all over me. Things like that happen to me very often. Is this a sign or something? (ill continue)

Warlocks and witches?

I'm a witch, I'm completely straight and I look completely normal. Most of my clothes tend to be very "surfer-ish" in the summer (I love Quicksilver and Reef)and "Per Una" (UK M&S brand) in the winter so nothing gothic there. I know alot of witches and pagans, but none who are gay and very few who wear alot of black. I think the perception of witches that you have been exposed to is very stereotypical. Yes, you'll find people who fit the bill, but it really is a minority. Plus there are attention seekers in every walk of life.

BTW, there is a difference between Witches and Wiccans. Wicca is a religion, witchcraft is a magical practice. Wiccans can also be Witches but Witches are not necessarily Wiccans. For example, I am a Pagan Witch by definition but not a Wiccan.

How do I identify a witch?

A witch does not wear a top hat or ride a broom, I have personally and double checked my sensors that in the past some women I got involved with, brought a darkness or a sense of hopelessness and misfortune to my environment. They were pretty, but seemed aloof or better than attitude.Any person who has hidden anger can initiate dark forces to get what they want and won't flinch if you get hurt.Narcissist to the max.A witch is a serious person who is envious and can do a jekyll and hyde bit on you that will send chills up your spine. They are real and their DNA is usually from a manipulative mother or bitter grandmother. Be careful. In their presence, your senses will warn you even though all seems peachy on the inside.
