Reset to factory setting Compaq Presario?
I had a bad IP address but was corrected. I am not able to get internet it says 100% lost. I just want to reset to factory settings and re install all the software. How do i do that? Was told in the past just turn off computer press and hold F3 till screen came on that would say factory setting. Only that that was on a Gateway. Could I do that then just download all the programs back into it? Don't need to safe anything just want to get online..

Unless you deleted it, there should be a hidden Factory Restoration partition on your primary HDD.According to page 25 of this downloadable manual (PDF), http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Ma..., pressing F11 during POST (Power On Self Test) should activate the Factory Restoration procedure. This manual also explains how to create Optical Recovery discs although this can only be done once because the partition is then flagged as having been backed up. You should always make multiple copies of the Optical Discs, to ensure that you have unscratched discs.If you have destroyed the hidden partition without having made the optical media, you will have to purchase replacement media from HP/Compaq.For future reference, the normal user manual (PDF) for this machine can be downloaded from http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c0248831.I note that this is a VISTA machine, so if you have upgraded to a newer OS, you will have to use the new Installation Media instead.Be forewarned that running a factory restoration will destroy all information stored and partitions on the system HDD (except that hidden partition). Those wires go around the screen and they are the wireless card antena. If the two next things you see on the image (ram modules) were outofplace you would have problems, but not with the antena. And you can take the two screws out remove the card from the slot, press the black wire back into place, and put the card back.Your presario does not boot probably because the MB is faulty due to heat issues, just like 80% of portable computers today.But it can be the plug for the power supply that is broken, it can be the power supply itself,it can be the wires between the power supply and the plug, it can be the battery that shorted (remove it and try), it can be the hard drive, etc.When you say, it does not boot. Can you elaborate on that ?
