I Want To Go Away From Here For A While Maybe Go Volunteer Or Go On A Mission What Are My Choices

In the military, can you volunteer to deploy in a combat zone?

Sure, there are lots of ways to get to a combat zone.  Usually units deploy en masse, but certainly, individuals can get to a unit as an augmenter. The one thing I should mention, is it’s not likely that a person can volunteer and just show up and start fighting.  That can happen, but usually, single deployers are bunched into a team.  That team has a specific purpose that is not combat. Maybe they are a team of advisors, maybe they work to support a specific piece of equipment. If a person is granted the chance to deploy to a combat zone as an individual, they will be assigned to a unit.  That unit will put that person to work doing something, but the single person should not expect to do what they want when they arrive.  It doesn’t work like that.

Registered Nurse vs Nurse Practitioner vs Physician's Assistant vs Physician vs other options?

If you are wanting to travel to other countries and do medical missions, then you need to look at RN and MD/DO/DPM. While there are programs that NPs and PAs can work with, if it's incredibly important to do mission work, then doing so as an RN or physician is the safest bet. And of those, the Physician will have the most opportunities to do a medical mission on his terms.

If you want to be a physician and you have the umph to get it done, then go for it. Get a patient care certificate NOW and get your patient care experience and resume going. Look at CNA, MA, and Phlebotomy programs (for example) and then put your certificate to work eithe via paid jobs or via volunteer work. You can get certified for many of these short courses at 16, 17, or 18.

If you start getting into higher science and math classes and aren't cutting it, then you can start looking at nursing programs and NP programs. Just be careful that you don't get into a situation where you feel like you are "settling" and that you "could have been more". RN and NP are great jobs that take a special kind of person, but if you are the type of person who is going to feel like you know more than the doc or that you could have been a doc had you not flunked Organic Chem because of some frat party you went to, you will have a tough time. Entitled nurses don't last long in the best positions.

Should young offenders be given the CHOICE of army instead of jail?

Being in the military requires you to have complete trust in your comrades (and they in you) - your lives can depend upon each and every one of you.

While their ARE offenders whom I believe military service could (and does) help, they need to be able to make their own decision to change and join (sort of a "can't get better until they admit that they have a problem" kind of thing). They also have to know that it's a never look back proposition, 'slipping up' or going back to their 'old ways' even momentarily as a civilian can result in a 'slap on the hand' from the legal system, but the military treats offences harshly.

I see that you are in Australia, imagine being on foot patrol several years ago in East Timor, depending on your comrades to watch your back - literally to keep you alive - what if you knew that one or more of them were only in the military to avoid jail time, for what, assault, drugs, manslaughter? Would you be willing to put your life in their hands?

Ideas about raising money for a MISSION TRIP?

First, give up something you enjoy and put the money that would have gone toward that toward your trip instead. For instance, if you go to the movies weekly, you could put the cost of the ticket and concessions toward your trip.

Second, send out sponsor letters to family, friends, church members, businesses you frequent, neighbors. Not everyone will be able to contribute financially, but you can ask for donations of items as well (see below).

Host a yard sale. Declutter your home while raising money for your trip. You can use items donated by those you wrote letters to as well. Instead of pricing items, have information about your trip displayed and ask for donations- you will likely raise more in that manner.

Bake sale.

Spaghetti supper hosted at church.

If your pastor is open to the idea, s/he could be "kidnapped" or "jailed" and an offering could be taken up to "ransom" or "bail" him/her- with proceeds going toward the trip.

Mow lawns. Wash cars. Babysit. Shovel snow. Walk dogs.

Do you get to pick what base you want to go to in the air force? ?

I would like to go to Anderson AFB in Guam but I'm not sure if you can choose where you go...or do they pick for you?
I heard you put the top 10 basses you want to go to and they pick one is that true?

Why does the National Guard get treated different?

to address anyone who is ridiculing my choice of service: National Guard allows me to keep my parental rights as a single mom. At the time, when I asked other recruiters, I would have to completely sign off my rights to a guardian, even for BCT then go through the court system to get my rights re-instated. Guard allowed me to sign a guardianship paper that allowed someone to take care of my child without losing my rights.

We have to work harder at PT because we're not up with the company at 0400 every morn running.

NCO's often work off the payrole when planning the drill, and for any other meetings that come up.

I worked my *** off to get where I am, and because people 'lose' paperwork, I haven't been promoted.

ya, we get notice about leaving for duty when a natural disaster strikes state-side: 24 hours of notice to get gear packed, ready, and get going to wherever the unit is. No matter if we're in that particular state or not. AD gets at least 6 months notice.
