I Want To Go On A Cruise For My Honeymoon But Not The Carribean. Where Else Is There

Honeymoon cruise?

I've been on two cruises - One to Hawaii which was our honeymoon cruise (flew to Hawaii and cruised the islands for a week) and one to Alaska (flew to Seattle and then cruised to Juneau, Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Ketchikan and Victoria BC).

Hawaii - Norwegian Cruise Lines - freestyle cruising
Enjoyed the cruise, and took several excursions. Freestyle cruising means no set dining time, food was great. They did have a couple "formal nights" but we chose not to dress up. We mainly took casual clothing for the excursions, and wore nice slacks and shirt to dinner. It was all-inclusive, except if you wanted to buy anything, go on excursions, or eat at one of the specialty restaurants - and then you only paid $10 extra per person to dine there. Loved Hawaii, didn't want to leave! We stayed in a room with a balcony; I really liked standing out there watching the ship move through the water, watching the whales in the water. We went it early February, and the weather was perfect, no humidity, no bugs! I would go again.

Alaska - Holland America Cruise
Enjoyed the cruise immensely. Had a set dining time, so we ate with the same people except the nights we were off the ship for an excursion, or when we ate in the specialty restaurant. Food was excellent, both at the regular restaurant and the specialty one. We wore slacks and shirts for dinner and we had two formal nights where we dressed in our fancy clothing for dinner. Knowing we were going to eat in the specialty restaurant, I also took a nicer outfit (just not formal) to wear at that restaurant. Jeans and shirts for the excursions. Loved Alaska it's so beautiful! We stayed in a room with a balcony again (I was spoiled from Hawaii). We went in August, so it wasn't REALLY cold, didn't need a jacket at all, except 1 day when it rained. Everything was all-inclusive, again, except the specialty restaurant, the excursions, and anything you wanted to buy. I would go again.

Hope this helps!

What motivates honeymooners to take a cruise?

I agree with the other two responders. Most vacations are a bit of a crap shoot, you never really know what to expect. With the thousands of cruise and ship reviews, it's pretty easy to ensure that you are going to have a nice time.

Not to mention, one of the things I love about cruising is the ability to totally relax. I don't have to research restaurants, figure out routes, budget for food, etc. have a job that entails constant thinking, and when I'm on vacation, I just want to chill and have a nice time. If I were on my honeymoon, I can see where just relaxing with my new spouse would be very enjoyable.

Cruising isn't for everyone. Some people's idea of a vacation is camping, hiking, or really immersing themselves in a local culture. Cruising isn't for them.

I want to get married... question about a cruise.?

First, let me preface all I'm about to say with the statement that your wedding is for you and your husband, and you should do what YOU both want, regardless of what anyone else says,

That said, do realize that getting married in the middle of a cruise will seriously, seriously limit your guest list, probably not much more than parents and siblings. If you want 250 of your extended family and friends to attend - it won't happen if their price of admission is $1000/head. If you want a big wedding, stick with a ceremony in your hometown and a go on a cruise for the honeymoon.

There are also options where you can have the wedding on the ship before you ever leave (and guests can then go on a cruise or leave) that could work.

If a small wedding is OK with you - then don't worry about it.

As far as "which" cruise line, any of the majors (Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Holland America, Carnival, Princess, Norwegian, etc) are well versed in both groups and weddings. Stick with one of those, you won't go wrong. Pick based off price and itinerary (ports you want to visit). All of their websites have considerable info. I'm personally partial to Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.

Are cruises romantic for honeymoons?

I guess it depends on your definition of 'romantic'. For some, laying in sand and getting drunk is romantic. For some of us, taking a cruise (Alaska) is all about the experiences you encounter. My wife and I went on a Celebrity Cruise to Alaska and it was breathtaking. The air is cool outside and the view of the shoreline and glaciers are amazing. The premium dining experience (not the buffet or the general dining) makes you feel special. Various shore 'excursions' such as float plane rides, helicopter flights to a glacier, are an added bonus. One on one time with my wife was very special. All of these factors add up to a nice, relaxing time with your significant other. Without the stress of everyday life and people waiting on you hand and foot, this leaves only one emotion left. Romance is a cumulation of many factors...not just sex.

Honeymoon! Cruise or all-inclusive resort?

The problem with an all inclusive resort is that you will only be staying in one place so if you don't like it you are stuck with it anyway. However with a cruise you have the benefits of travelling to a number of different destinations all in one holiday. Also can you imagine if you are at a unknown resort and don't know the language the issues you might have in trying to arrange a half decent evening out. At least when you are on a cruise ship all the entertainment is included which can vary from Comedian, cabaret acts or even a circus, and if you don't like anything you always have the option to walk out to a different place without having to pay an entrance fee. Also if you are a savvy buyer you may find that you can get free holiday spending money which can be used towards paying for drinks, shore excursions or spa treatments.

Where did you go for your honeymoon, and why?

We went to St. Lucia. I originally wanted to go to Italy—but in the end, I’m glad I was only planning the wedding and not a 10-day adventure through Europe (we’ll save up again, and go on that next year!).I was blown away by the island and where we stayed. We did 5 nights/6 days at Jade Mountain Resort near Soufriere, St. Lucia. It was the perfect place to relax, eat amazing food, horseback ride, and sit in a pool with a cocktail. Plus, it was an all inclusive so we never worried about money—which is great after a large wedding.I won’t lie; it was an expensive trip. But we paid in pieces throughout the year that we got engaged, and used some of our wedding gift money for the final balance. My husband and I both wanted to take an amazing vacation that we would remember forever. We love to travel, and typically don’t stay in luxury resorts, so this felt like the trip of a lifetime :)Our room had a private pool, and only consisted of 3 walls—the 4th wall was an open view to the Piton Mountains. The netting on the bed kept the bugs and birds away from us. Surprisingly, there were not many critters! I think the breeze keeps them at bay.We took an excursion with Atlantic Shores Riding Stables. It was obviously a highlight of the trip. Here’s where we ate dinner every night at the resort. The food was out of this world.More pics, here. Hope you enjoy your honeymoon!

Mediterranean Cruise ....?

so me and my fiance are looking into taking a Mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon and we have a few concerns/questions. First off, the cruise would be through Royal Caribbean. We were wondering if they cater to Americans (ie: english language) or is the language barrier going to be a problem ? Second, how about the food ? We just recently went on a cruise to Maryland to Bermuda and the food was fabulous ! alot of it was american foods with other nationality foods thrown in there to choose from, but mainly american. Would a Mediterranean cruise have mainly american foods or will they be, well, Mediterranean ? Also, we will most likely be flying into Spain to get to our ship. Now, i have never been in another country before without a tour guide. When we fly into spain, we will be on our own til we get to the ship, so my next question will be, since we don't speak spanish (or french or italian lol) will there be people in the foreign airport to help us out ? I know that these seem a little "out there" because im sure the answer is obvious, but any feedback would be great !!! thanks :)

What was the influence of your honey moon on your marriage?

I think for us, the honeymoon was a snapshot of how life as a married couple would unfold. In the early planning stages (before the wedding), we disagreed on just about everything to do with our honeymoon. I wanted a long holiday somewhere remote, and he wanted a short honeymoon in a vibrant city. I wanted the beach, he wanted to go skiing. He didn’t want to be gone very long because he doesn’t really enjoy travel, where as I really wanted a long travel experience as I love to travel, and wanted to see many places like a whirlwind tour. We rowed a lot and I’m ashamed to say at a few points were both so insistent on having our own way we debated not marrying at all! Eventually, however, with the advice of friends, we had to realise the wedding, honeymoon and marriage itself wasn’t about satisfying our personal desires, but was about creating a loving and functional family together. The honeymoon would be a time of building each other up and cementing a foundation of love, not just another opportunity to travel.Once our priorities shifted from having our own ways, we were able to laugh at our selfishness and approach the planning from a more reasonable perspective. From there we were able to compromise. We had a long honeymoon but spent it all at one destination so I got my time away from home and he didn’t have to spend lots of time queuing, changing hotels and flying. Then, during the actual honeymoon, we found ourselves in disagreement about a few things like what we wanted to see or where to eat, but it was much easier to laugh and tease each other about our differences, and to find compromise. We started to internalise the sense that this was about us, not about me or him individually. Decisions had to work for the both of us, not just one person. The honeymoon turned out very happy and since then our married life has been the same. We definitely both look to the wellness of our relationship before thinking about our personal desires now. Since we’re both conscientious of the other, we actually each get our needs and wants met a lot of the time without needing to squabble! We put each other first and we’re both happy, and the honeymoon planning and trip was definitely the Marriage 101 we needed.
