I Want To Know In The Novella Breakfast At Tiffany

Breakfast at tiffany's?

im really in the mood for a nice film, is breakfast at tiffanys any good? can anyone give me the basic story line?

thanks, 10 points for the first helpful answer :)

Has anyone read "Breakfast at Tiffany's"?

Truman Capote, the author, hated the movie. It changed a lot of the book's plotting and characters.
Fred is based on Capote himself, who was gay.
Holly is based on various women Capote knew ( he denies that her character was based on a gay man), but she was also very like his own violently alcoholic mother who dreamed her entire life of getting to New York.
There are lots of keys to Capote's life in the book---the scene when Holly is playing and singing a song (in the movie, "Moon River") in the book she is playing a tune from "Oklahoma." Truman Capote's longtime partner, Jack Dunphy, was a dancer in the original production of "Oklahoma".
But her line of dialogue about "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was something Truman Capote heard a gay male friend of his say.
In the film, the George Peppard character has some issues---he is being "kept" by an older woman(Patricia Neal), who is mothering him. He certainly isn't tough and independent as we would expect a "straight" man to be.

And, in my opinion, good as the book is, Truman Capote's unfinished work SUMMER CROSSING, which was published last year, is 10 times better. Don't miss reading it as well as BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S.

Would you like to see a new film version of Breakfast at Tiffany's filmed as the novella was written?

Absolutely not. It was bad enough she was a prostitute in the first one and I'm no absolutely not. It was bad enough she was a prostitute in the first one and I'm no feminist. It was a stupid movie, or as you put it you think it was meant to be a Telenovela. Which I don't believe those were around in those times but I could be incorrect. I don't want to see anything to do with Breakfast at Tiffany's. Because when you break it down she was nothing but a prostitute that drink too much. And the only guy that loved her she could care less about. I really don't get the craze about Breakfast at Tiffany's and I never will.

What is the point of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's and what do people like most about it?

It is a lovely movie. I am a fan of both Audrey Hepburn and Patricia Neil. Holly Golightly was a socialite, gazing in the windows of Tiffany's each morning as she ate breakfast. We can assume that she dreams of the type of life where she can shop there regularly. Then, at the end, she falls in love with a man who has little money. I think the point is that love matters more than money. Even if I am not accurate about this, it is still a really cute movie.

How would you describe Holly Golightly's attitude in Breakfast At Tiffany's?

doing a movie review =]

here's what i have to far:

This classic film, staring Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, and directed by Blake Edwards, definitely deserved its two Oscar Awards.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a 1961 movie, based on the novella, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The dramatic, romance-filled story line, with just enough comedy to spice things up, really keeps the viewer thoroughly intrigued throughout the film.
Holly Golightly [Hepburn] is an all around New York City girl, who loves to party. She always keeps the men wanting more, with her [here's where id like to add something about her attitude]

any other tips on what/how to write would help a lot.
thank you. =]

Audrey hepburn... breakfast at tiffany's?

Oh, great movie! My favorite. Well, I would say that Holly has a very outgoing, extroverted, and flirtatious attitude/personality. Like you said, she loves to party, and she just loves to be around people/men in general. But I think her over-the-top gestures and glamour, as well as her many romantic relationships/sexual advances with men, are a cover-up for how she feels inside: scared and insecure. Holly dates a lot of guys, but she's afraid of real love because she doesn't want to let down the walls she's built around herself and have the risk of being vulnerable. She seems carefree and reckless, but she's actually very careful not let anyone in (emotionally) and is guarded with her feelings. She also has a very adventure attitude; she wants to go out and experience life; not be tied down. This is one of the reasons she ran away from home and her husband; she felt suffocated on the farm and wanted to live out her dreams. Like I said, Holly is insecure even though she doesn't act like it--the fact that she dates men for their money shows this; she doesn't think she can do any better than marrying someone rich, even if he is a 'super-rat'. She is a bit of a romantic but afraid to acknowledge that; choosing instead to date only men she doesn't like too much. That's why she's so reluctant to show her love to Paul (aka 'Fred darling'); she's afraid of opening herself up to another person and becoming that vulnerable. Hope this helped...sorry; I know it was a bit long!

In Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, what are the page numbers for these quotes?

"We ate lunch at the cafeteria in the park. Afterwards, avoiding the zoo (Holly said she couldn't bear to see anything in a cage), we giggled, ran, sang along the paths towards the old wooden boathouse, now gone."

“She was still hugging the cat. "Poor slob," she said, tickling his head, "poor slob without a name. It's a little inconvenient, his not having a name. But I haven't any right to give him one: he'll have to wait until he belongs to somebody. We just sort of took up by the river one day, we don't belong to each other: he's an independent, and so am I. I don't want to own anything until I know I've found the place where me and things belong together. I'm not quite sure where that is just yet. But I know what it's like." She smiled, and let the cat drop to the floor. "It's like Tiffany's," she said."

“Never love a wild thing, Mr. Bell,' Holly advised him. 'That was Doc's mistake. He was always lugging home wild things. A hawk with a hurt wing. One time it was a full-grown bobcat with a broken leg. But you can't give your heart to a wild thing: the more you do, the stronger they get. Until they're strong enough to run into the woods. Or fly into a tree. Then a taller tree. Then the sky. That's how you'll end up, Mr. Bell. If you let yourself love a wild thing. You'll end up looking at the sky."
"She's drunk," Joe Bell informed me.
"Moderately," Holly confessed....Holly lifted her martini. "Let's wish the Doc luck, too," she said, touching her glass against mine. "Good luck: and believe me, dearest Doc -- it's better to look at the sky than live there. Such an empty place; so vague. Just a country where the thunder goes and things disappear.”

I read it on the kindle so I can't find page numbers :/
