I Want To Monitor My Network

With what program can I monitor my network usage?

It really depends on your environment as it is quite different between Linux, Windows, and MacOS.For Windows you have the built-in Performance Monitor which has the network tab that you can use to see the network activity graph including the processes that are currently talking over the network. Windows 10 also tracks data usage per app which you can see in Settings -> Network & Internet -> Data Usage. If you want to look at the actual traffic that is flowing between your computer and network your best bet is Wireshark which is a cross-platform network monitor. On Linux I prefer to use tcpdump which is a console application similar to Wireshark.MacOS has a very handy built-in utility called nettop. For something simpler you can use free Private Eye or the paid Peak Hour. Finally if you’re asking about monitoring your home network, many routers have built-in functionality for that. It is worth checking your vendor documentation to see if it supports monitoring and to what extent. So it all depends on what exactly you want to monitor in in which environment.

Which software should I use for an enterprise network to monitor end user internet usage and graph? In our company we have Sophos, Spiceworks, and LEM, but I want a better one to monitor every single person’s internet usage by graph.

Wireshark does a great job at it. You can write Python scripts that run Wireshark, insert necessary filters for what you’re looking for. Wireshark provides an option that graphs the usage patterns for you. You can make your Python script save these graphs as “.png” files. You can make your script run at regular intervals and monitor usage patterns over a period of time. You can also associate your captures with timestamps to know how your network is behaving over a period of time. If this data is really important to you, you can make the Python program store the data in the cloud or send you email updates about any suspicious patterns. You don’t have to do all this, but just that you could. You can write a simple code that will do these things for you. Of course the downside is that you need to know a bit of programming and have to write a code that will do these things for you instead of finding a “ready made” solution. But this solution is much more customizable for your needs and you can do really powerful stuff. You only need to write the code once and it will serve you for a long time!

Wireless network monitoring software?

Does anyone know any good software (preferably free, or atleast have trials) to do the following.
Ofcourse one piece of software to do all/multiple things would be nice, but 1 for each would be fine aswell.

-I want software that can give more accurate wifi signal readings (the 1-5bar on windows doesnt help at all). I would like to know something that more accurately shows the connection strength of wireless networks in the area.

-Something to be able to monitor incomming/outgoing data. Like for example, when avast contacts the avast server and looks for/downloads updates, i would like to see that displayed. Mostly want to know for any unknown things accessing unknown servers. (like if malware is somehow hidden, and sending/reciving data i want to know about it).

-And not as important, but i would also like something that can show the total download/upload bandwidth i am using. Like i want to know the total amount of data that is being uploaded/download (which would add when programs like say avast downloads an update), would include bandwidth of browsing pages(like the total amount from viewing pages/images/videos, as to view them you download them), and ofcourse when actually downloading something.

Links to any of them would be great.
Thanks :)

What do you use for network and server monitoring in your small business?

Since you have a small business, it's probably better to find a tool that does both network and server monitoring with in-depth analytics. So as you scale up your infrastructure, it wouldn't be hard to manage. Do you only want to monitor your infrastructure?  Have you checked out Ruxit for server and network monitoring? As an all-in-one tool, Ruxit provides insights into your CPU, memory and health health metrics all the way down to the process level. It even shows process-specific network metrics. There's a 30-day free trial that you can check out to see whether Ruxit fits your needs. As a disclaimer, I work at Ruxit.

How do I use Microsoft Network Monitor to determine if my roommate is using P2P on our shared network?

The account is in my name, so I want to protect myself from liability for her downloading habits. I'm not sure exactly what to look for in Network Monitor, as most of the "frames" look exactly the same.

How can I monitor all my network's traffic with Wireshark?

I'm attempting to keep a log of all the traffic on my local network with Wireshark so I can have a record of when of when people are playing video games, Facebooking, etc. When I have Wireshark capture traffic on the network, I can see where these computers are connecting and communicating with the network itself, but not where they're communicating across the internet. Granted, the server that our users connect to the internet through is managed externally, but they have to connect to it through our network, and the network is wireless, so I should be able to see that traffic regardless. Is the problem something that I can change in Wireshark, or is my computer simply ignoring traffic that isn't specifically directed to it? What can I do to get Wireshark to log all the traffic across the network?

How can I monitor the network traffic of each device connected to my WiFi device by their MAC address?

Because router does not have powerful CPU and harddisk, most WiFi router does not have this kind of features. You have two choices:If your router supports “port mirroring” feature, you can mirror internet traffic to a pc. Then you can install a passive monitoring program(WFilter Internet content filter) in this pc to monitor traffic.Setup a gateway server with two adapters. Then you can monitor and filter internet traffic in this gateway server. Please check: WFilter NGF wifi monitoring solution
