Is it best to live in Los Angeles or Las Vegas?

I have lived in both, they both have their pros and cons:beautiful scenic areas like Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire are close to Las Vegas but LA has beachesin Las Vegas you can get out of the mass of suburbs and strip malls to nature a lot faster but that nature is desertLA has much more traffic and it has a rush hour, something I haven’t seen in Las Vegas outside of the stripLA has very aggressive drivers on the freewaysLA has a lot more people, Las Vegas seems like a small town in comparisionLA people seem unfriendly compared to Las Vegansrains a lot more in LALA is much more humid, Las Vegas is usually at 9% humidity compared to LAs 40%LA seems to have a lot more bugs and mosquitosLA has a milder summer but it is a lot longer than the Vegas summerLas Vegas has 4 seasons, LA doesn’t seem to have seasons as you have the same boring weather all yearVegas has more cloudy days which is important when taking landscape picturesThe ski resort near Las Vegas is a lot closer than the ones near LALA has zoos, Las Vegas doesn’tLas Vegas has gambling, LA doesn’t but most Las Vegans don’t gambleLas Vegas has better, cheaper buffets but LA has more varied restaurantshouses/rents are way cheaper in Las Vegasjobs pay less in Las Vegas and are mostly in the casino/hotel industryeasier to get to other states like Utah and Arizona from Las Vegasnational parks like Death Valley, Zion and Grand Canyon are much closer to Las Vegasmany people from LA are now living in Las Vegasdriving to LA from Vegas on a holiday weekend is much easier than driving from LA to VegasNevada has less gun lawspublic education in LA is way better than in Las Vegas and LA has a lot more universitiesLA has a lot more museumsNevada has no state income taxLas Vegas has better air qualityearthquakes in Las Vegas are a lot less common than in LA

What learning strategies do "quick learners" follow?

10 Rules for Better LearningAccording to Prof. Barbara OakleyRecalling: Try to frequently recall the main ideas of what you are learning...or try generating ideas from within yourself... 'I wonder what this means?'.Testing: Use any method you can to test yourself all the time (recall, applying, asking others opinions etc.).Chunking: Pretend what you are trying to learn is a song...learn to play it over and over again in your mind. In this way the information combines into a chunk you can access when needed.Spacing: Your brain is like a muscle and needs a break now and again. Don't try to learn everything at once...spread the learning out over time.Alternating: Practice different techniques for learning. A single approach is sub-optimal. Try writing things down, creating pictures, constructing a quiz etc.Breaking: Taking breaks from a problem or a challenge allows the brain to take over and do some thinking in the background.Questioning: Consider how you could explain a problem, challenge etc. in a way that a ten year old could understand? Using analogies can help.Focusing: Turn off all interrupting things (phone, computer etc.) then set a timer for 20 minutes and focus on the one thing you are working on.Thinking: Do the hardest thinking and problem solving early in the day when you and your mind are fresh.Contrasting: Dream of where your learning is taking you (outcomes, insights, solutions, etc.) and then create a picture or words to describe that outcome. Reminding yourself periodically of the desired outcome (looking at the picture, reading the words) will motivate you to achieve greater learning. Now watch Prof. Oakley Describe: Learning How to Learnthis video has been curated by the author"quality rewards vigilance"

Which west coast city should I move to? Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Diego, Or Los Angeles? Read Below?

I've lived in the suburbs of LA, SD, and LV. There are pros and cons to each of the cities.

LA- high crime rate, VERY expensive, crazy traffic, navigating is hard if you're new to the area. There is a culture that is fun about LA, but I wouldn't move back.

LV- high crime rate, affordable housing, there is traffic - but definitely not what LA has. I wouldn't live in Las Vegas, but Henderson, since it's more like living in a real city rather than the touristy area of Vegas. Oh that reminds me, the area off of the strip in Vegas is not that safe, so unless you're moving to Summerlin or SE Vegas, just move to Henderson. We had a 2br, 2bath apartment with full amenities (washer/dryer, AC, gym, pools) for about 925 a month.

Oh, and the part about the heat - it's really not that bad. You go from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car and then to your air conditioned destination.

There are TONS of jobs out there, as long as you speak English (which it seems like you can) or you can pass a drug test.

SD-that's where I am now. The weather is absolutely beautiful. If you like sports, I'd go with here, because you can easily go to a Padres or Chargers game. You can even easily go to Mexico for the day or weekend.

How is the drive from Reno to Las Vegas? Is it safe for someone afraid of heights?

Amazing drive, don't be scared to take it, you wont regret it. Just be prepared for two things,

A: it's a long drive, don't expect a lot of stops along the way, it's mostly bare land and scenery with some ghost towns and small towns along the majority of it.

B: Watch your speed! You can get up to 90mph on the longer stretches, and that's fine, and for the most part near the legal speed almost, however, towns with 10mph speed limits sneak up on you very quickly if you're not paying attention as the road doesn't appear to change so you don't slow down unless you're aware of your surroundings. I can't imagine the ticket for doing 90mph in a 10mph zone would be cheap, so drive fast, just be prepared to slow down on short notice.

Also, be sure and check out Walker Lake. Beautiful scenery on highway 95 through there, snow on your right in the mountains, desert below you, and the huge lake's beach to your left. Only place I know of where you can have the Snow/Desert/Beach combination at once.

And to answer your actual questions, while it looks like there are a lot of curves on the map, they're actually very big so it feels like you're driving straight the entire time (minus a few curvy roaded ghost-like towns along the way) so you should never worry about driving off the road. Yes, it is two lanes, one for each direction, but there's a seperate trucker highway for the 95, so it should be pretty clear given the high speed limits and the fact that you can legally pass anyone along the main 95 route unless the line goes solid (very rare)

The Godfather (1972 movie): Why was Tom Hagen dismissed as consigliere?

This is explained a little bit more in the book. The Corleones value competence and loyalty. In the book when Tom is informed that he’s out he’s a bit upset to have his younger brother Michael tell him this so bluntly. Tom has to be mollified by Vito. Vito tells Tom that Vito never thought that Tom was a bad consigliere, even though Vito thought Sonny was a bad Don. I think that Vito was being kind to his adopted son’s feelings.Tom is moved out for a number of reasons, some contradictory. He was Vito’s choice for consigliere, not Michael’s. Michael was so arrogant and intelligent that he didn’t really think he needed a consigliere. He didn’t want anyone knowing every thing he knew.As events leading up to Sonny’s death had made clear to Vito and Michael, Tom although loyal and family, wasn’t really a wartime consigliere. The growth area in the family business was going to be the legal banks, hotels and casinos. Tom would be very useful as a clean front man for those businesses.Removing Tom from the consigliere spot and ostentatiously letting everyone know they were moving to Vegas would hopefully make Barzini, Tattgalia and Carlo believe that the Corleones were completely giving up NY interests and not looking for any fight. It also might make people think that Michael didn’t know what he was doing as he was dismissing a loyalist (Tom) and embracing a traitor (Carlo). The primary Corleone tactic is always to get their enemies to underestimate them.FWIW, though after Vito’s death, regardless of titles, Tom acts as consigliere.I think that Michael never really forgave Tom for not protecting Sonny. It’s never put in words but I think that’s where a lot of Michael’s coldness towards Tom came from. It’s ironic because it appears that Sonny and Tom were closer than Sonny and Michael.
