I want to open a clothing store, what college courses should i take?
If you want to get started right away, talk to your local SBDC (small business development corp) you should be able to find them in the phone book. The SBDC will help you, free of charge, in put together a business plan, a budget, etc. If you are serious, and ready to move forward, you need to talk to these guys. If this is a dream of what you will do in a few years, go to school and learn business and fashion at a fashion college if possible (go the full four years) and make the contacts, network, and learn the business. As to the college question, if you want to see if college is for you without spending a lot, sign up at your local community college. You will apply, they will have you take a couple tests, and they will assign you an advisor. Your advisor will help you select a course of study (i.e. business or fashion, also depends on what is available) and select classes (i.e. core courses and electives) that match your career goals. Then you will attend classes and it will be just like any other traditional school you have attended, except every semester you choose your next set of classes. Half the fun of college is the experience at a four year school, but if you can't afford it or if you don't know if that is what you want to do, a community college is an excellent and less expensive alternative.

Is it better to major in CS or business if you are an entrepreneur?
I'm a computer science student in University myself, but I do have a Commerce degree in College. I believe that it really depends on what kind of business you want to start as entrepreneur. If you want to start your own clothing line, a degree in CS is of little use. On the other hand, if you want to start a tech company, holding a CS degree is, in my opinion, 10 times more valuable than a business degree.As Mark Johnson mentioned, you can learn the business side of things as you go, but having a solid foundation of how to technically build a product requires much more time and effort. That being said, there is the case where entrepreneurs who have engineering backgrounds make the critical mistake of ignoring the business side of their company. They code all day, build an amazing product with awesome features, only to realize that nobody wants to buy it.Another thing to mention is that studying CS is not for everyone. It requires logical thinking and if you have never tried programming, I really suggest you to try it out first. But understand that they just teach you the basics, don't be fooled by how easy their exercises are. I know you don't technically need one but I was wondering what kind would help. I want to someday own a clothing store and I want to know exactly what I'm doing when I go into it with money management and knowing whats going on with everything. I want to start a clothing (t-shirt) brand/company. What do I need to know?
Its not easy but not impossible.All these brands has the following things in common in their business model:Moat: There has to be an USP in your products. Without an USP your brand will not outstand in market for long.KYC: Know your customers you are targeting. Eg: Young, Teen, Middle class, upper middle class, etc. Do not try to serve everyone, as your brand will loose it's identity.In-house Designing: This matters the most to qualify the above 2 criterias. Make sure there is some uniqueness in your designs.Manufacturing: You must have a good control on your manufacturing. Initially it can be outsourced.SOP: All these brands have a very strong Standard Operating Procedures, which allows them to expand at ease. How is it that Foreigners Own so many of our Buisnesses in the USA?
To Clarify, I see gas stations, Liquor stores, clothes stores, restaurants, even big companies, that are owned by people who are immigrants. I went into a Chinese owned store yesterday, I asked him a question and he didn't speak any English!!! NONE. I asked an English speaking cousin of his who the owner and manager is and he pointed to the non English speaker! I have nothing against this, I'm just wondering. I've inquired about immigration to Europe and new Zealand and found that English is required for permanent residency. Which brings me to the question, do new immigrants get perks that the average American does not? Or do they just pull their recourses together? Anyone have information on this topic?
