I Want To Paint A 6 X 8 Shed. How Many Gallons Will I Need

I want to paint a 6 X 8 shed. How many gallons will I need?

One gallon of good paint is plenty. Get the best paint you can, it pays in the long run. You may need to prime first, there is not enough info to determine that. If it hasn't been painted before, you need to prime. It also depends what color you are painting over, and what color you are painting with. The paint dept help should know these things. I wouldn't get 2 gallons, paint doesn't last forever, you most likely will be wasting your money. The store will always have paint, keep your color numbers and other paint info somewhere in case you need to get the same thing later.

Approximately how many gallons of paint is needed for a 40 foot sailboat?

I assume you mean the hull -- bottom and topsides.

To calculate the area needing paint: (rough estimate): multiply the length of your hull (LOA) by the beam and multiply by 0.85. (LOA x B x 0.85 = Area).

If you are just painting the bottom, use the same formula -- just measure on the waterline for LOA and beam...

The last boat I painted was 14 ft long with a 5 ft beam (14 x 5 x 0.85 = 59.5 sq ft).

Most paint coverage runs about 500 sq ft per gallon. (A quart is about 125 sq ft.)

I used almost a whole quart for this boat and I gave it two coats. The estimate was right on the money!

As for type of paint -- that's for the owner to decide! A visit to a local boating store (chandler) would get you the best suggestions for what's needed for local waters....

(by the way: I used a pad and got great results)

What type of paint should I use to paint an outside mural on my shed? Any other tips?

My husband is first going to paint it white (what a surprise) again, with normal latex based paint I think. What paints can I use to paint my mural? What will hold up? He is against me buying normal housepaint in tons of different colors. He says it's too expensive. Any ideas?
Thank you

What happens when you mix paint with primer?

Not a lot. Thicker more opaque paint. But the purpose of primer is to create a mat surface for paint to adhere to, mixing the two kind of defeats the purpose!

Do It Yourself (DIY): How much weight would four empty, sealed, five-gallon water bottles keep buoyant in water?

Well, the density of water at 70degF is 8.329 lb/gal (from http://www.engineeringtoolbox.co...).So 8.329 lb/gal multiplied by 20 gallons comes out to around 166 lbs.  This is the weight of the water that the (4) 5 gallon water bottles could displace, thus keep buoyant.

How much material is needed to build a 1200square foot home?

There are lot of materials required for building a house. It is always best to get design done and then calculate the exact materials, if you are planning to buy materials. But for estimation purposes, you can use some of thumb rules to calculate. Here you go. I am assuming that the 1200 sqft is built-up area and not carpet area.Cement - 0.4 bags per sft of built up area = 1200*.4 = 480 bags (Calculate for a 1200 sqft built up area. You can calculate similarly for rest)Steel - 4.25 kgs per sft of built up areaFine Sand (Concrete)- 0.9 cft per sft of built up areaAggregate - 1.3 cft per sft of builtup areaFine Sand (Plaster) - 0.56 cft per sft of built up areaPaint - Approximate area that needs to be painted = 2.5 times X builtup area (in sft). You need to calculate the primer and paint requirement based on the selection.Tiles - 1.3 sft per sft of built up areaThese ratios are applicable for bungalow / row house construction. The ratios will change for Low rise and high rise structures. These are thumb rules obtained from averaging the material consumption for multiple projects. These thumb rules are for estimation purposes only.Happho - Marketplace for Home construction and materials is a Online Marketplace for Construction Material and One Stop Solution for any Construction Need (Bungalow Construction, Interiors & Renovation)

Can I use a 5 gallon bucket with the bottom cut out for a footing form?

As long as the it goes below the frost line. You did not state what this for . Any time I put in posts for a fence I just used sank a hole deep enough and put in the cement in around the post below the frost line. If you don't put in deep enough the ice in the ground will shift the post. I live southern Ontario so the ground freezes a 6 inches down without a good snow cover. I sank my holes down at least 3 feet down and then added the cement. This way I prevented any shifting of the posts

Why do Americans keep buying gigantic pickup trucks when they clearly don't need them for work ?

Because Americans like lots of junk and we like big vehicles to haul our junk around in. We also are all insecure so we need to feel powerful thus we buy big “tough” “super duty” “ram tough” etc trucks to feel secure in.We also live in places where far more people drive than any other means of transportation and many of those people are distracted. And are in big suvs or trucks. So it’s an arms race. You get a Tahoe I get and F-250. On and on. And cheap gas prices allow us to drive these snorting behemoths around Willy nilly. And we are also in a vast country where many people have large yards or properties. So we use those trucks to constantly bring home landscaping materials, etc. or we have horses and that needs a truck! Right? Or we’re going to pull our boats, like in all the truck commercials. It’s marketing. I’ve always paid people to haul the horse form me, delivery charges for landscape material would be cheaper than truck payments, and I don’t own a boat. So it’s marketing. It’s like art supplies. Can never have too many paint brushes even if you’ve only done one painting your whole life and it was at a “Sip and paint” with the girls. We may need that paintbrush or that truck in the future. When the price of digging oil out of the ground becomes so high that the cartels (including USA based oil corporations) have to raise prices, then trucks will fall out of favor with the casual driver. But we need our penis extensions and our body armor to feel secure and productive so it’ll be a while.
