I Want To Quit University And Start A Business But .

Should I go to university or start my business?

Beyond education, college is about connections. And that’s more than pitching your idea at a cocktail party. It’s impressing people at the top of their fields, it’s applying for internships and incubators, it’s drawing conclusions from the material in a variety of different classes. It’s finding people who can help you.The people you’ll meet in college will go on to be lawyers, philanthropists, musicians, and entrepreneurs themselves. In short, they’ll be the guinea pigs to your first investment round. They may even be your first investment round. I promise you’ll come to rely on at least one of them, for a task that’s not even on your roadmap yet.Not to mention resources. The library. The speakers. The gym to blow off some steam. I have several classmates who have gone on to start their own businesses because they got the necessary practice in free competitions that are limited to university-sponsored teams. In many schools, you’re expected to hone your public speaking. As a student, you’re the center of attention. Everyone is there to make you the best you can be. But entrepreneurship is a lonely road. Don’t be ashamed to pack the right tools.

Should I leave my university to start a business?

Absolutely Not!First of all, you’ve already sunk so much time & money into your education it would be rather foolish to give up at 95%.Second, there is no reason you can’t work on your business right now!You will probably never have more free time than you do in college. Plus, even if you are taking student loans, its already a sunk cost which means you can work on your business with all your off hours without having to incur any additional overhead for your business. This could give you months or even years to test your idea and get something ready for market while you use the resources at the school to help launch your product. In addition, for some strange reason, while you are at university local businessmen, leaders, and professors want to help you- yet the day you graduate you are competition for them and they’ll leave you to the dogs.Enjoy the freedom, experiences, and forced social interactions.Find young/cheap/free talent.Meet local mentors through the school, join a entrepreneurship program (or start one if it doesn’t exist) and find a physical activity you like! You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the rat race once you get your degree.(But I’ll admit it is a lot of fun)-Jay

HELP! I want to quit University of Phoenix!?

UoP screwed me over! The enrollment counselor told me it would cost a little less that $10K to get my accociates degree in IT(Information Technology). Let me explain a little, I am 37, a low income self employed family, married for 20 years and have 3 boys, 19, 15, and 3. I wanted to help my hubby out and thought a degree would help me get a good paying job. (wait.. let me laugh then cry a little and come back) OK. So, 6 months into my courses about, I realized how lame it was, I'm not learning hardly anything about IT. Nothing that i didn't learn on my own from reading my own books, not a thing from UoP. It is such a ridiculous curriculum, disorganized, the instructor's don't seem too into it or helpful. The main thing is, the PRICE!! I tried to drop out 6 months into it, about October 09. The financial advisor said I would owe like $6000. I kept asking why I owed so much already? I wasn't even half way through the program. I also asked why it seemed to be taking so much money? You can check on your account online, I couldn't figure out how it was going to be covered with each class taking over $1000. But with all my confusion and questions, no one clued me in on how much I would be paying. I am freaked out to the point of tears when I think about it! How can they do this to people? It's totally wrong! I know I was clear in my questions. When I ask how much it will cost to get my degree, they say $9500, that should be how much I have to pay! I was expecting the Federal Pell Grant to pay about 1/2, which it did, but I will still have more than triple the original loan amount when I'm through. On top of that, the remainder of my classes are just regular required college classes like Science, Ethics, Math.. I am probably no better off after this huge load of money I owe. A UoP associates degree probably will not mean too much. Especially if I don't do things on my own and learn a few programming languages, etc!

I don't know what to do. Can someone give me some good advice? I would be happy to quit the program and just owe the Federal Pell grants back. I feel completely screwed.

Is the music business a good career?

I really want to make the right decision, i love music but I also want a career that I can live with for the rest of my life.

Am I stupid to want to quit a government job?

I started out getting a government job by quitting a permanent job at a small company and taking on a maturity leave job. The job I took was below my level. I studied computer science/life science in university but I took a clerical job. Anyways now I am a permanent staff for about 2 months. I am thinking of resigning because the job is not something I want to do. My manager hinted it would be a lot of admin work, the level of the job is administrative level and I was hoping I can do data analyst stuff plus everyone feel I should deserve higher level but because they cannot increase my level higher than the maturity level person so I have to be at that level. I plan to go back to school this September to pursue accounting designation because recently I completed a Business Analysis certificate and with an accountant designation it would help me pursue Business Analyst or Financial Analyst job. I feel bad for having my manager and director to hire a consultant to create this position but this is my future, I should have the right to decide what I want to do. I am 25 years old btw.
