I want to start a small business. Will a business degree help?

It could greatly help as where a lot of businesses fail is not the owner's lack of knowledge and experience in their fieldĀ  it is actually the business side and lack of understanding that causes some issues. If you follow what you learned:Develop a business plan / strategyManage your finances (expenses) and develop a budgetFocus on what you have to do to bring in sales / revenues and understand your marginKnow your market and set the right pricingInvest in the "right" marketingSet up the right processes for the business to manage it properlyHire and manage employees properly Understand productivity of the businessService customers wellYou are well ahead of the game to start with the "knowledge" to succeed, but what a degreeĀ  and book knowledge doesn't provide is the drive, passion, and tenacity to succeed or the experience. If you develop those along the way as well - you have a good chance of being successful as a small business owner. There are a lot of successful business owners who have learned the business side and have a high school diploma so it will not ensure success but will definitely prepare you.

I want to start a business, but I have no idea what field or what type of business it would be. How can I figure out what to pursue?

This is a big and good question. How do we know, right? Unless we are the lucky ones with a crystal-clear calling, we are pulled in so many different directions, priorities, seductive trends.I think, ideally, you do some serious vivid vision mapping that leads to the overlapping core of four concentric circles. The circles answer to four different questions:What do you love? What is it that your community or the world needs? What might others pay for? What are you good at?Essentially, you explore your passion, your mission, your vocation, and your profession. The concept of ikigai may help you in this quest (See the image attached). But you also must know your core values: What qualities in life can you not live without. What are the strengths that you can bring to your entrepreneurship. What might be your weaknesses (areas to develop)? What are you willing to say no to once you commit to a certain choice of business?Running a business asks a lot from you and it can be wonderfully rewarding. In the United States, close to 66% of small businesses will survive their first 2 years, which sounds great, but it also leaves one out of three stranded. So it is also important to realize that your ultimate happiness cannot and must not depend on the success of your business.Figuring out what your business is about requires deep inner work. You could start with a test like the MBTI. But that would only be a start. And the finance issue can come later, much later. Whether you then go for entrepreneurship or not, delve into your exploration anyways, since you learn so much about yourself and what is really important to you in life.Enjoy the process! Sophia

Should I get a business degree if I want to start my own business?

At the age of 19, I dropped out of university to start my own business. Like you, I had this insane obsession over business. I knew exactly what I wanted, and I pursued it like a hungry lion chasing a gazelle. As you can see from my bio, I'm 23 years into the self-employed game. Not having a degree has not hurt me one bit. My opinion is that if you're naturally a self-starter, you don't need a degree in General Business to be successful with your own business. Self-starters tend to be good at figuring out what they need to get by anyway.Plus, the real life experience of running your own business is like gaining a PhD. Nothing makes you better, stronger, wiser than actually running a business. Even failures offer a top-notch education. If you feel like you need a specialized skill, take a Udemy course. Whatever's too 'big' to study, outsource it. I know that I'm not good with numbers, so I don't do my own accounting. I know that I suck at cold calls, so I outsource that when I need to. Same with graphic design. Part of staying highly motivated as an entrepreneur is doing the parts you're really, really good at and letting other people handle the parts that mentally drag you down.

I want to start up a small business in Hyderabad. What would be the best option to start up with my friends?

Firstly, start something if you think you are game for it on a long term basis. Don't simply start something because you are free for a few months or so. If that is the case, you are not starting something, but experimenting, which again is good.Anyway, you must be asking this question to your friends to know their interest and motivation. I hope you will do it :)Coming to the point, and not getting too much into details, you can do two kinds of start ups - Tech startup or Non-Tech startup.Few areas in Tech:1. Building a platform to sell specific kind of product - like furniture, medicines, hardware etc or services like ticket booking, reservations etc. This market is already having many players but has lot of scope to new players as well2. Building an information portal. Like justdial. At a local level this idea is not explored much as the unorganized sector in India is still huuuuge!3. Building a service for solving household problems online. Like if someone wants to fix their leaking tap or shorted electric board, they can contact you(online), and you with the help of local contacts(you need to have local work force) fix their problem.A few areas in Non-Tech:1. Start a niche restaurant2. Provide government services like e-bill payments, IT filings, filling online certificates for local people - A small setup like a Xerox shop is enough for this. All you got to know is how things work at government offices3. Print merchandise. Like t shirts, mugs etc. If you are good at designing then it's an added advantage... You can 'brand' themThe challenge is not ideas here. It is the implementation part that sets your a** on fire :)

I am from Kolkata and want to start a small business. I have around 1 lakh to invest. What business should I start?

Amazon in an attempt to increase its penetration in India, had launched an initiative "Udaan" to go offline across the country. Under this initiative, Amazon has an association with a set of exclusive offline partners who select and train passionate and self driven local entrepreneurs in small cities and towns and assist them in establishing an exclusive Amazon store in their locality.LinQ is pleased to be associated with Project Udaan to bring the convenience and assurance of Amazon to customers across India. We are currently open to establish such offline stores all over India. Particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana we have succeeded to open 250+ stores and our Aim is to touch 500+ Active stores all over India by the end of the year 2017.In small towns & villages around cities, the percentage of people using online services for their needs is as low as 3% mostly due to unawareness or due to trust issues.By opening an offline store with the services of an online platform that too with theleast amount of Initial Investment, Zero Inventory and with the least of hasslesnot only gives an excellent Return On Investment but also a good profit margin. So you ask, how do you get to earn this margin within a few months?A store owner invests in LinQ with the initial investment of only the Franchise Fee and the Stores Infrastructure both collectively coming up to to a maximum of 1.5 Lakh. After about 5 months with an average earning of 30K - 40K per month or more you receive your invested amount which in turn leaves the rest for the overhead costs and profit.Contact us to open a business anywhere in India. You can visit our website www.linq.store to know more.
