I Want To Start Skateboarding But High School Memories Are Stopping Me

I'm 18 and want to start figure skating.?

As others have already mentioned, everyone learns at a different pace - it all depends on you. Get a bunch of people of the same age, size, schedule, etc to skate . . . and in a year, they will not all be at the very same point in skating. Some whiz through the moves, others take more time. And that's OK!

It's great will you be taking lessons . . . that's the first step in progressing faster. You will also have a trained eye to make sure you are skating these moves correctly (that's the downside to teaching yourself - you can't "see" yourself skating).

It's possible the first class(es) may seem easy to you because you already can do some of the moves . . . but do make sure you are doing everything correctly. Go into the class as if you don't know these moves and listen to the instructor for any new piece of advice about it that you may not have come up with when you taught yourself (learn with an open mind!). But if the moves are truly too easy . . . talk to the instructor and they may move you up to the next level (they did that for me!).

Yes, you can compete - and for sure within the next 4 years. Well before then, you would probably graduate to a private coach, which you may need to help you compete. They have competitions for all ages and levels - even for beginners! It's not just about doing programs with music . . . there are ones where you can just do "elements". Though some prefer not to compete until they are of a certain level (like doing jumps or spins), I highly recommend gaining competition experience early on even without jumps/spins. Get all the practice you can skating with "nerves"!! Looking back, this is what I wish I had done.

I started in my mid 20's. As we are not "kids", we can only commit so much time into skating because we have other commitments outside of the ice - that's just life. But make the most out of your precious ice time - and you'll do just fine! Long story, but I started competing at about 2-1/2 years - my bogus coach didn't want me to compete . . . I could have done it much earlier. But, I did do Adult Nationals by year 3 with another coach - and have skated many competitions and shows after that!!!

Best of luck - have a blast with your lessons!!

How can I get better at riding a skateboard?

I want to start with my biggest piece of advice be fore you ever step on your board. Skate for YOU. It sounds obvious but you can look at videos of skaters jumping down 12-stair or riding transition dropping in from 20 feet and wonder where do I fit in this? You skate for you and if in the end you decide that pushing around town is enough, stop there.Learning to ride. I’m going to assume you have a board to ride (Longboard, penny, street skate. First is getting comfy pushing. If you don’t know whether you are goofy or regular you can do this. In a standing position, close your eyes. Have a friend push you backwards (not into pushes but enough to move you)the foot that goes back first to balance you is going to be your pushing foot. For me, my left foot went back first, so my left foot pushes and my right foot is on the board.Moving: Skateboarding is basically the walking motion. One foot follows the other. You know what foot needs to be on the board and which foot needs to walk beside it until you feel comfortable enough to put you back foot on. Using the walking motion (for me right foot forward) I put my right foot on the board and step. I kept doing this until I felt comfortable enough to pick my left foot up and put it on the board as well.Build some speed and learn to stop: There are several ways to stop. One as simple as dragging your back foot.Just skate around on your board a lot. I don’t think 40 hours logged on your deck just skating around and getting super comfortable is too much. You want to feel so comfortable that it feels second nature.LEARN TO FALL: as a skateboarder you are going to take a spill. there is a good way and a really bad way. You don’t want to fall on your wrists. Breaking them is pretty easy. I recommend wrist guards if this sketches you out.Watch skate videos: VLSkate, Braille Skateboarding, Justin Lauria are all good candidates for my “you’re really making me love skating.”If it doesn’t fit don’t force it. If you don’t like it, give your board away or put in the back of the closet. You may came back to it. I know I did.Have fun. Tell me about any epic progress. I say that just skating to school is EPIC.

Describe your high school life/experience. How was it?

THE SCHOOL LIFE IS ONE OF THE HAPPIEST TIMES I EVER HAD.It was really a wonderful experience. I had many friends who were always there for me.Our friends group was used to be the most notorious one.But we never abandoned our studies.Due to my father’s job I used to travel a lot.I’ve done my primary education, secondary education and high school education from different places. But every time when I go to a new place I was always welcomed by(almost)everyone. When I was in high school I had a very wonderful time thanks to my friends and friendly teachers. When I was a high schooler I used to date guys A LOT.lol.But that does not mean that everything was good. When I entered high school I use to cry a lot. At first I barely knew anyone. I was considered as an outsider for a few weeks. Sometimes I was humiliated by students.AND when I was about to give up on studying in that school I got the support of a person who is very dear to me. Slowly I started to get closer with him and then many students came out and started to support me.And now I have so many friends which are irreplaceable to me.And we are still in touch. In short my high school life was full of spice and fun. I had many ups and downs but if you ask me to describe it in one sentence then it will be “it was an experience which taught me many lessons which is useful throughout the life.”

Have you ever been in a fight in school?

Yes, I am currently suspended for one as we speak. I go back to school monday.Okay, so here’s how it happens. A friend from my old school (let’s call him Crisp), fed up with conceited girls from his school, starts talking to people outside of his place of education. He ends up going on a few dates with a girl from my school. They click very well, but she can’t stop talking about this boy (Let’s call him Zyan) and how creepy he is and how he won’t stop annoying her.Things are going really well, and my friend is about to ask her to be his girlfriend and boom. She’s taken.Turns out about two hours beforehand, Mr. Oh-So-Annoying Zyan asked her out, and I guess he wasn’t that much of a nuisance to her, because they were dating now.My friend is a pretty sensitive guy, and he took this hard. He was completely wronged, and I was furious. I decided to stay reasonably diplomatic. I approached the couple (holding hands, naturally) in the hallway at school and asked the girl (let’s call her Jaid) about it.Me: Hey, so what happened with you and Crisp?Jaid: Fuck off.Me: Why’d you have to do that to him?Jaid: He’s just mad he’s not with me * her and zyan laugh*Me: *fake sarcasm shit* Wow… you’re actually proud of that, aren’t you?Zyan: How about you fuck off?Me: *still addressing Jaid* You know, I’d call you a whore, but that would imply that any man would want anything to do with you…*addresses Zyan now* … and you, sir, are not a motherfucking man.Zyan: *pushes me* Crisp is a bitch cunt. He’s just mad I stole his bitch.*ding ding ding*And then the fight was on. Well, to call it a fight you need two people throwing punches. Shit was no contest. I got the stomach area right between his ribs, winding him, punched him again in the chest plate and then got to work on his face. His nose was bleeding and he had a bruise on his face the size of a birthmark.I broke a knuckle and got four days out. Completely worth it.6/3/18 Update: Zayn came up to me at school, agreed with me about what was said about Jade, and asked if we were all good. I’m still not sure he was in the right, but I don’t need more enemies. We’re not beefing any more.

How does a tomboy girl get a boy in school to notice her? (Im 14)?

well, find an opportunity to make friends with him! guys are actually really quite typical, spend enough time with them and they'd fall for you.
just be sure not to do anything that'd turn him off.
best of luck!

How can I convince my friend that smoking weed is bad?

For one thing the human brain does have receptors specifically for a chemical similar to thc that produces pleasure.

So smoking weed is not much different that other drugs such as cough medicine (dxm) which effects seratonin levels the same way anti depressants do.

Its hard to convince someone that weed is bad when in reality marijuana is one of the safest drugs around when compared to any other legal or non legal drug including ciggs and alchohol.

Marijuana canniboids have been proven to regenerate braincells

health risk myths & realities
Marijuana Overdose
There is no existing evidence of anyone dying of a marijuana overdose. Tests performed on mice have shown that the ratio of cannabinoids (the chemicals in marijuana that make you high) necessary for overdose to the amount necessary for intoxication is 40,000:1.

For comparison's sake, that ratio for alcohol is generally between 4:1 and 10:1. Alcohol overdoses claim approximately 5,000 casualties yearly, but marijuana overdoses kill no one as far as any official reports.

Brain Damage
Marijuana is psychoactive because it stimulates certain brain receptors, but it does not produce toxins that kill them (like alcohol), and it does not wear them out as other drugs may. There is no evidence that marijuana use causes brain damage. Studies performed on actual human populations will confirm these results, even for chronic marijuana users (up to 18 joints per day) after many years of use.

In fact, following the publication of two 1977 JAMA studies, the American Medical Association (AMA) officially announced its support for the decriminalization of marijuana.

In reality, marijuana has the effect of slightly increasing alpha-wave activity in your brain. Alpha waves are generally associated with meditative and relaxed states, which are, in turn, often associated with human creativity.

Memory
Marijuana does impair short-term memory, but only during intoxication. Although the authoritative studies on marijuana use seem to agree that there is no residual impairment following intoxication, persistent impairment of short-term memory has been noted in chronic marijuana smokers, up to 6 and 12 weeks following abstinence.
