Does health insurance cover therapy?

I'm new at this whole "health insurance" all I know is that I have United Health Care "choice plus premium" health insurance. What I've been told by doctors is that it's pretty much the best....like the visa of health insurance accepted everywhere and covers a full range of medical needs. But does health insurance cover therapy? Or is that outside of health guidelines it's not a need it's a want? Kinda like liposuction?........Or breast implants. Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm broke and have no insurance but really need to talk to a therapist or psychologist about my extreme social anxiety/depression. Does anyone know of any good programs or sources I can look into that might help?

Yes it’s called, “social interaction”.You do not need to talk to a therapist. You could for example just talk to someone who is willing to listen (like us here for example). All a traditional therapist does is listen to you and rephrase back to you what you have said. It’s not staggeringly therapeutic but it does have a positive effect. You are the one that needs to do the healing. No-one else can heal you. Take that attitude and that is most of the battle won.Confidentiality is imperative so I suggest you seek this interaction on an anonymous basis. That way you will feel more comfortable sharing your troubles. You will have to be selective about the people you talk to. Older people are better as they tend to have more sympathy and time to listen without judgement. You could for example visit your local care home, offer some friendly services in exchange for a listening ear. Most old people have a wonderful point of view and infectious sense of humour. You will want to find someone who listens more than they talk. Some counsellors are useless, some people who are not trained counsellors are excellent therapists. Bear this in mind.Depending on where you live there may be charities you can phone.Otherwise create your own therapy program by searching the web. You may be able to use your local library if you do not have access to the internet at home.Luckily for you there are so many therapies and solutions available to you, far too many to list here.Good luck on rediscovering yourself, you deserve it.

How much does it cost to go see a Therapist?

Where I live, a "counselor" is 60-80 dollars and my psychiatrist was $130 first visit with $80 each visit thereafter. psychiatrist is much more helpful.

School psychologist therapy certified dog?

I want to become involved with children and adolescents and work in schools and become a counselor or maybe a school psychologist. I mostly want to help children get through everyday problems and puberty issues, hormones and all that jazz. But I also would like to have a dog with me. I never got to keep a dog when I was young and always wanted one. So then I found out about therapy dogs, and was hoping that if I get a job at a public or private school I would be able to bring a dog with me to work. I dont want to leave them home alone.

Would this be possible? If I got them CGC (Canine Good Citizenship certified) and TDI certified (Therapy dog international certified?) the school would let me bring the dog to work.

I want to be able to bring the kids to me and not nag them to come to my office to spill the beans!! I want them to come of their own free will, (probably just coming for the dog, if possible, but its a great incentive so whatevs) I'm currently in sophomore year, psychology major, of undergraduate college, and am going for an MD because my parents want me to go for psychiatry in medical school. It's not what I was really going for, but could the same apply as well for a psychiatrist?

thanks for all the help guys!!

Are there any apps where I can talk to someone? Like a therapist chat?

www.7cupsoftea.com is amazing. :)They have people who are willing to just listen as you vent about anythng and everythng. Its free and easily available. When there's no available listener at the moment, you can hang out in the forum chat room.It has helped me a lot. There are things that I can only tell a total stranger and be done with it.

For depression, would seeing a psychiatrist, therapist, or psychologist help?

akes a team for me: PDOC (psychiatrist), TDOC (talk therapist/psychologist) and an ALLY (my brother usually).PDOC (my GP has proven more knowledgeable for my situation because he actually gives a shit and does that sciency stuff): meds. I need a baseline. Otherwise nothing else matters. TDOC gets me through some of the shitstorm I deal with all the time. I need a guide. Guides HAVE to know what they're doing. It took me a decade to find one a licensed psychologist who actually knew WTF he was doing. ALLY: manual/physical intervention guy to walk me through mundane shit until I'm "up" enough to do it myself (rarely deployed last few years but when I've crashed in the past, the ALLY was vital)."Therapists": never met one worth a damn (no offense MSWs and other nice, well meaning therapist people). Too many of these professionals seem obsessed with, and addicted to CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) which has been PROVEN ineffective for clinical and depression within the BiPolar spectrum. I have never encountered a non-psychologist among the hundreds I've been to over my lifetime who knew how to treat BP. Psychologists are a little more knowledgeable but it's still a crapshoot. A LOT of professionals claim to be able to treat BP and clinical depression & they're well meaning and may even believe they've helped people. Mostly they never looked at the folks who left or stopped seeing them because it wasn't working but it felt rude to tell the professional that. (Unfortunately—always speak up, if a professional's feelings are hurt, they're not a professional. Most of the time a real pro really needs to know so they can change methods. Most good ones would prefer to do that for their patients and have the training and experience to deliver). My experience, YMMV. Just how it is.

Does anyone know if Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance covers a psychiatrist / counselor?

Now that some people are aware of my depression, I have been asked to find a counselor / psychiatrist to talk to. My insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield and I haven't been able to find my paperwork yet for it so I'm not sure if my insurance covers any of those options. I'd be just a tad pissed if they don't cover it at all, so I'm hoping maybe someone on here has the same insurance and knows. Or knows a quick way to find out the answer (just got the insurance 2 weeks ago so I'm still new to using it and what it covers).

I don't know if it matters or not, but I live in Wisconsin.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
