I Wanted To Help My Sister In Retirement

Depressed elderly parent in retirement home - how to cope?

until it became evident that it was creating alot of resentment between family members....

At this point we started looking at retirement homes. She didn't want to go but we knew we had to come up with some other arrangement.

We visited different homes, and finally found a nice one not too far from the dupex she rented from my sister. She naturally did not want to go to the home but knew there was no alternative and accepted it.

Since she has been there, her diabetes is under control because her food is prepared by a dietician and the staff is caring and very efficient. One daughter takes her to church and lunch out every Sunday and the other daughter takes her out every Wed to go shopping and any errands. She has her hair cut at the home, her nails done once a week, an array of activities like bingo, quiltmaking, art, three or four activities a day to choose from, and once or twice a week she is taken on a day trip with some of the other seniors....more.....

My sister-in-law took her retirement savings out of the stock market after the downturn in the economy in 2008, how do I encourage her to invest again?

The conventional “buy and hold no matter what happens” approach doesn’t work for everyone, and it sounds like your SIL might be one of those people. If that’s the case, then don’t expect her to get back into the stock market unless and until she sees a way to do so that she can feel confident in.When I worked as a financial advisor, I advised my clients who were participating in 401(k)s to enrol in a fee-based service called the 401k Optimizer (https://www.401koptimizer.com/) to receive advice on fund selection and management tailored to their specific 401(k) as well as to their specific situation. (I am not affiliated with the 401k Optimizer, nor do I receive any compensation for spreading word about it.) One of my chief reasons for recommending this service was that it makes use of a proprietary indicator known as the Buyline, which has an excellent track record of sidestepping the two major market meltdowns of the early and late 2000s, and then getting back in early on in the bull runs that followed. (You can see this for yourself at the following link: HCM-BuyLine.)Let me be clear: the Buyline does not try to get you out of the market precisely at the top and then back in precisely at the bottom. What it aims to do is:Keep you in the market as long as possible, until hard data (not headlines or “experts” on TV) suggest that we’re in the early stages of a major meltdown, at which point, it will…Advise you on defensive moves to make to preserve capital in your 401(k), utilizing the selection of funds available to you, and then, when the same hard data suggest that we’re in the early stages of a major recovery and uptrend, it will…Give you the all-clear to go back to “business as usual”.Let me also be clear that I do not recommend the 401k Optimizer as a way to consistently do better than the S&P 500 or some other measure of the stock market. I recommend it as a form of low-cost insurance ($79/year) against stock market disasters, and that may be exactly what your SIL needs to “get her groove back” as an investor. For a fuller description of how the 401k Optimizer works, see Should I Contribute to the Retirement Plan at Work? (Part 5).Update (2/23/19): I’ve updated the link for viewing the Buyline’s track record.

My ex husband's family did not invite me to his retirement party.?

My ex husband and I have been divorced for 5 years, after 23 years of marriage, and 2 children. He retired at age 50 and his family recently had a retirement party for him and did not invite me. His current girlfriend walked him in on the surprise, I heard. He did not know about the party. No problem with the ex, I dont bother him, he dont bother me. Took us a while to get there, have no beef with the sisters or brothers,as far as I know. Kinda bothered me that they thought less of me after 23 years of marriage. My kids were in on the planning of the party as well and they didnt even ask me. I didnt even interact with any of his people, when we were married, they were not the bonding type of inlaws, they sort of thought everything he did was gold, so screw u type of folks. I probably wouldnt have went, because I wouldnt have felt confortable, but they didnt give me the chance.

Is it tacky to ask for cash gift for a retirement party?

My sisters and I want to throw our father a retirement party but don't have a ton of cash to do so. First, is is acceptable to assume that guests should be bringing a gift, and second would it be tacky to put on the invitation "in lieu of a gift" and some how ask politely for cash gift?

My wife wants a second child. My hopes of early retirement already went up in smoke. How do I dissuade her?

You don’t “dissuade” her. You just say no.In situations like this, the status quo always wins. The “no” wins. Full stop.To make my point, let’s start with some other questions like this:My boyfriend just proposed. I don’t want to get married. My dream of having a casual romantic partner just went up in smoke. How can I dissuade him?My wife wants to move to Florida. My dream of growing old in our family home just went up in smoke. How can I dissuade her?My husband wants to add anthor woman into our relationship. My dream of having a monogamous partner just went up in smoke. How can I dissuade him?My wife wants me to have a vasectomy. I want more kids. My dream of a large family just went up in smoke. How can I dissuade her?You say NO.She is imposing her will on you without your consent. She is wanting things for herself that impact you with lasting, life-changing consequences. That is selfish and unfair.Of course in any relationship compromise is essential. But wanting another child is not something that you compromise. You can’t “be a little bit pregnant.” Either you are or you are not. This sounds like it could be a deal breaker, and that’s ok. Major incompatibilities are sometimes uncovered, and choosing not to go forward in a relationship with seething resentment is preferable to slogging it out in misery. Only you know if this issue is one of them. You have every right to say no. She has every right to leave and find a partner who wants this with her. You both need to decide what is truly the most important, and allow that path to happen.

RHH: Thoughts On Lupe Fiasco's Potential Retirement!?

Damn. I knew this would happen one day.

I mean he said he was going to retire almost as soon as his first debut F&L came out. I mean lupe's has had to deal with a lot this year. A lot. From Pete Rock's almost child-like fit about ''Freedom Aint' free'', to dealing with undeserved criticism from journalist for his song ''B*tch Bad'' because he came off as ''preachy''. To his emotional breakdown on TV with Sway.

At first it was difficult to tell what had triggered the tears until Lupe explained that he was seeing "ghosts" in the video — friends who had died or had been incarcerated, more victims of Chicago's inner city

Here if haven' seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bQQcmN7E...

He breaks down after seein old footage six years ago of himself.

He just recently mentioned his retirement after saying Chief Keef is dangerous for kids. And didn't like what he represented.
After hearing Lupe’s comments, Keef took to Twitter and wrote:

''Lupe Fiasco a h*e a$$ ni**a and when I see him I’m a smack him like da lil b*tch he is #.''

Lupe Fiasco's response "i have spoken peace only 2 receive vitriol and malice in return. My brother seeks destruction my sister seeks attention paths to nothingness"

"i'd die for them...but they'd probably spit on my grave...i still will die for them...just bury me in a place far from their reach...Amin"

"This album will probably be my last...its been a pleasure to have all my fans provide so much love an inspiration for me and my family"

"but my heart is broken and i see no comfort further along this path only more pain. I cannot participate any longer in this..."

"My first true love was literature so i will return to that...lupe fiasco ends here..."

..
I mean Lupe Fiasco really dislikes the industry and wants to get away from it. He said he PROBABLY will not put another STUDIO album.

It's sad for me as my fave MC will PROABABLY retire soon.He gave us 24 classic mixtapes and3 studio albums. One of the most lyrical of alltime will leave the game soon.
