I Was Going To Buy This Car

Should I buy a car before I join military?

Hello,

I am 17 and it has been hard times for me, after a lot of thinking and researching I've decided to join the military. I am only part time and I can come up with the money to buy a car but not afford insurance since I only work few hours.

I've talked to my parents about joining and it was hard for them but they agreed, now when I join will I ship off and do some training then when I am 18 go full training and then they decide what to do with me.

My question is should I buy a car since I would probably be transferred to another state or save and when I get to another state purchase a vehicle.

Thanks for any input.
Oakley,

Im going to buy a car for my friend?

Can I be your friend? lol

If you were going to buy a fuel-efficient car, which three would you consider? Why?

Hello Amy,
Hyundai i20, Toyota Prius and Volkswagen XL1 because all cars have good mileage, less price and takes less Maintenance etc.

I am going to buy a second hand /used car in Kolkata, what are the points I should remember or check?

thanks for the A2A.as you are buying a car in kolkata a coastal city an extra care has to be taken while buying a used car.utmost care has to be taken care while checking the car. take along with you a known car mechanic with you and check if there the car body as kolkata is a coastal city the fear of corrosion is always there. lift the carpet and check for rust in 4-5 places(dikki, below the back sets, below the frontseats, engine bay). have a torch light and check the lower side of the car as there maybe small corrosions here and there which could grow into a large patch and doing patch work will cost you dear.check the service history whether the car has been through an accident or any major engine overhaul. if there has been a major engine problem then leave it then and there as engine problems in a used car will persist unless and until the engine itself is replaced.in the coastal cities like kolkata, mumbai, vizag, chennai etc., the cars depreciate a lot as the problem of corrosion/rusting is always there and it is very difficult to find a rust free car. so look for a cheap car which inturn add some value for your usage for the next 2-3 years. there is no fun in taking your car to the garage frequently as it will cost you time and money.look for a decent 4-5 years old petrol car as there will not be any wear and tear( cars owned by doctors are very much preferable). look at the speedometer in the car you are going to buy and also other cars in the used car dealership. if all the cars have the same mileage(45000-55000kms) then there is something fishy as the cars have been "clocked"(speedometer tampered with).go with a reputed used car dealer. its better to compromise on price rather than compromising with the product itself. try to get a best price. all the best for your new car.

Why in the sentence "he is going to buy a new car when he receives the money", is the second part in present simple?

The phrase "when he receives" is correct. "Why" can be answered several ways: because that's just how English is; because English doesn't actually have a future tense that's grammatically distinct from the present. The most practical answer is probably "because 'when he will receive' means something different".The phrase "when he will receive the money" implies that, right now, he won't receive the money, and he'll buy the car when the situation changes so that, some time after that, he will receive the money. That's a very pragmatically odd thing to say, and if that's what you actually meant you'd probably say it differently. Maybe "he is going to buy a car when he knows that he will receive the money", or something like that. But basically, using the simple present tense is correct, and you say it that way because saying it the other way means something different.

What is the passive voice of "I want to buy a car”?

I want to buy a car .A car is to be bought ( by me )Want to is an infinitive verb .It is a combination of one lexical verb want and base verb to.When we have an infinitive form in active voice it takes to be verb form in passive voice. The words want , to in the above statement are called an infinitive form of verbs. The infinitive is formed by placing to the base infinitive before the lexical verb want.I have to do something .Something has to be done.Hope it helps .

Is it ever okay to go into debt to buy a car?

It's totally fine, but as with all financial decisions, it is worth knowing what you are getting into.I agree that you should only buy what you can afford, and even the cheapest of new cars provides safe, reliable transportation for 99% of a normal person's needs.  I'll offer something of a counterpoint to all the folks who declared that they have not and would never borrow money to buy a car.  Cars are cheap to finance  for those with good credit, and by paying cash, you are sinking a big chunk of cash into an asset that drops in value by at least 20% the moment you drive it off the lot.0-3% financing deals are not uncommon for new cars, and if you would rather have liquid cash in your bank account, this isn't a bad way to go.  For most middle class Americans, having the 20K in cash to get you through financial calamity is a lot of piece of mind.  Also, if you're financing over a relatively short period (3-4 years), your car should be worth more than you owe in 1-2 years, so it stops being a liability at that point. It also is an easy way to build credit.  So, even though folks on Planet Quora are superior in every way and never have to borrow money, on Planet Earth, some people can and do, without making total fools of themselves.

Do I need to buy car insurance before I buy the car?!?

Depending on the state, you may be required to have insurance before you can legally drive the car. If you are financing the vehicle, you will have to have insurance before you drive the car off the lot.

The way to handle this is simple. Once you have decided on the car that you want, you call your insurance agent and arrange for coverage. You either leave them a deposit, or a credit card number. Once you have picked out the exact car, and have made the deal, you call the agent, give them the VIN and they will issue you an insurance binder that covers you. They can also fax proof of insurance coverage to the dealer.

You do not want to take possession of the vehicle prior to getting it covered. If you drive off the lot and are in a collision, you will have no coverage at all.

If you live in TN and go to KY to buy a new car, what will happen in terms of sales tax?

They will, many times, issue an "In transit" permit which typically gives you 30-60 days to take care of the paperwork. Many new car dealers in border towns will take care of that for you. We used to do it for the 3 neighboring states. You would pay the dealer the tax and they pay your home state. This may not be the case though. Ask the dealer to make sure. Many times they will give you the paperwork to pay the taxes on your own. If the car is financed many times the finance company witll make the dealer do all the registration just so the finance company's interests are protected and any lien's are recorded. The best thing is call the dealer and simply ask. I am glad you said new cars. Most used cars loose any warranty as soon as they are sold to out of state buyer. Most states lemon laws require the person to be a resident.
