I Was Mugged Last Night And Now I Feel Depressed

Do you feel depressed having no money?

Like my Pappy used to say; " " wouldn't mind being so poor if I had lots of money " "

Why do I only ever feel depressed at night?

Your question is Why do I only feel “depressed” at night? Depression has no hourly boundaries or limits , it is not that kind of thing. People who are depressed feel depressed morning, noon and night. They have difficulty sleeping, eating, doing basic activities of daily life. They lack initiative, motivation, joy, enthusiasm, concentration, focus. They stop doing activities they used to enjoy. They have negative thoughts about themselves and others. Some people have to take time off from work or school because they are having such difficulty and have no energy to get out of bed in the morning. Some people may have a more difficult time if they don't get treatment soon enough and they require hospitalization because they are at risk of hurting themselves or others. And I could go on.People often mistake moods for depression. It sounds like there is something at night that is affecting your mood negatively. It could be numerous things , I would be just guessing at this point, you didn’t say what was going on. Things like having difficulty sleeping, being anxious about work the next day, having bad dreams, feeling lonely, not liking the darkness, having time to think and your thinking is negative instead of positive, all are examples of what could happen at night that would make the night feel rotten.Make an attempt to see what you are thinking about at night and actually DO positive counter steps against it. In other words , if you struggle with insomnia , go to your MD and talk to her about sleep hygiene and possible medications, If you find you are anxious at night , perhaps joing a yoga class and trying that 2 evenins a week instead of staying home and feeling awful. What ever it is , do the opposite in honor of your self care.

What does it mean to dream you are being mugged?

First of all, if you have watched any gangster movie, then this is merely a play back of your movie experience. However, in your case, if you didn't watch any movie like that, being mugged is a symbolic way to say you are feeling insecure in some aspect of your life.

Being into a nasty fist fight symbolize the need to defend yourself. Feeling nothing, and and hitting him harder and harder may show your frustration in dream, but actually it indicates the lack of control in you. In other words, you feel angry and unafraid in the dream because you are seeking for something to release.

It may be about something that hurts you emotionally and it is pride and feeling of security related. Examine your life and you will know what triggered it.

How do you get over panic attacks? I was mugged and robbed and now I will not drive or leave home.?

Can I assume that you have been diagnosed properly with a Post-traumatic Stress Disorder resulting from your horrible experience?

You mentioned being nearly bed ridden for the last 4 years, which sounds like you are suffering from agoraphobia, a not-uncommon phobia associated with anxiety and panic disorders.

I trust you are on medication since you are seeing doctors. Make sure you communicate openly with your doctors and therapists about your problems and whether or not you think the meds are working for you. SSRIs are effective at treating anxiety disorders, however, different SSRIs have different efficacy with different people. Benzodiazepines are very effective at reducing the panic, but be careful, these can lead to addiction. But, weigh that risk against the alternative of never getting out of your house.

With any emotional illness, medication is only half of the equation. You need to make thinking and lifestyle changes that will ensure a return to a healthy mindset. Medications get you to the point where you are able to do that.

You may want to think about risk assessment. Think of possibility versus probability. If you leave the house will you get mugged? Perhaps, it is possible. But you know what? Just because it happened once, it doesn't mean it will happen again. Frankly, statistically, it is improbable that this will happen to you again. Now, on the other hand, there is *certainty* that if you continue to go on living in fear, your quality of life will suffer. A very small risk, versus a certain risk.

As far as panic attacks go, what helps me is thinking, "so what, this is a panic attack, it isn't going to kill me.... it's JUST a panic attack." Also, make sure to practice deep-breathing exercises when they occur. If they are severe enough, I will take a low dose of Xanax, usually .25 mg.

Remember, you are in control of your emotions and the course of your life. You owe it to yourself to have the type of life you deserve.

I wish you the best of luck.

Depression success stories?

hey flynt, everything you said about depressed people being lazy and not able to help themselves sometimes, well your right numbknutts, thats exactly wat depression is. how can people who dont even want to live help not wanting to do sheet at all, not even getting out of bed. wat for? they dont want to live, They dont have the spirit or motive to. Becuase theyre mentally ill, not voluntarily lazy.

You try washing the dishes when u dont wanna live, then lets see how you feel if i call you lazy.

I've had a very traumatic experience at my last college. Now I feel 'not okay' with myself. How do I fix this?

What you describe sounds serious, so i would strongly encourage you, to talk to somebody that you trust fully & feel comfortable talking to.You need some friendly support & help to be able to cope with what you’re feeling, as a direct result of what you went through.Talking to somebody you trust, will also take some of the burden off your shoulders & it’ll help you to know, that there is somebody beside you who actually cares.Once you have opened up to somebody you trust, then you can begin to process things better & you can take immediate “action”.In order to resolve anything in life, we must take “action”, otherwise we’re in the same position & nothing ever changes. For eg: If somebody has hurt you severely, then that person must be held accountable for their actions & when you take action against them, then you are going to feel somewhat better for having done so.I wish you all the very best.
